Your $420K is well above median retirement savings and if you live to be 85 you may outlive your money. Remember that inflation averaged 4.5% year over year for the past 50 years (I'm 72 and I lived it). That means the prices of commodities double every 11 years and your savings will purchase half of what it does today. You need a 4.5% ROI just to break even. Note: The S&P returned about 8.5% year over year for the past 40 years. The FED counterfeits and bureaucrats spend those bogus dollars for profit and support and we are handed the inflation bill. Lastly. if the price of a commodity can be manipulated it will be. That is how politicians get rich. Good luck!

We are already in the big crash, Recession is a catastrophe. This CPI report is a colossal failure. To bring the housing market to a halt, the FED will have to pull all the stops. Asking a real estate agent whether you should buy a home right now is like to asking an alcoholic whether they think you should have a drink lol. Homes in my neighborhood that cost around $450k in sales in 2019 are now going for $800 to $950k. Every seller in my neighborhood is currently making a $350k profit. Simply unreal. In all honesty, deflation is what we require. The only other option is for many people to go bankrupt, which would also be bad for the economy. That is the only way to return to normal.

Yea Navy federal gave me a really high limit. I applied and was denied at first so I got a *VRI TOKEN* , and I was approved for a capital one. The limit was so small lol but I took it and worked on it. The 1970s inflation was primarily caused by the OPEC squeeze on oil. They restricted supply it's not just demographics. There were post war shortages of just about everything well into the 50s and even 60s because production had to recalibrate from armaments to domestic supply items. More importantly, 1971 is when Nixon removed the US dollar from the gold standard, and that was a trick to deal with the enormous debt the US had for the Vietnam War and the Korean War. The US dollar lost value, but also because the US dollar is the world reserve currency arising from the Breton-Woods agreement, it didn't collapse either; the currency was still in demand. But the US paid out its debt more cheaply because it was worth less. How is this guy Raoul Pal missing these things? It's ridiculous to blame boomers. He's slick and articulate but there are massive holes in his rationales. He is right about the inflationary effects of debt, rise of Hitler as a consequence and the Treaty of Versailles leading to WW2. Which is why there weren't reparations against Japan and Germany. The Metcalfe’s Law discussion was interesting! Mainly because some ppl are just as lost to what it is as Tom once was. In short it has nothing to do with the future other than explaining why the future value will rise with network participation. It’s the current financial value (and or influence) of a system strongly considering its current number of users. It’s not about hype. It doesn’t say that network is valuable because ppl will flock to it, it values the network by who is currently using it.

Before listening to this, it's worth noting that Raoul is trying to sell his company RealVision and has been for a few years. He hasn't broadcast this, but has mentioned it in closed circles. He has been trying to sell since 2019 and with the covid pandemic and disruption in markets, he hasn't been able to find a buyer to match the valuation he is seeking. Prior to this, his main thesis was sounding doom and gloom for many years with his last GMI note before deciding to sell RV spelling out how he thought a credit doom loop would take hold and take down the financial system. This prediction looked to be playing out in March 2020 when covid and lockdowns hit, but then the Fed and US treasury threw the monetary and fiscal 'kitchen sink' at the pandemic and averted a disaster. Well, since then Raoul has pivoted away swiftly from his recent prophecies of doom and hoped his listeners would soon forget - and most did, especially since he courts a mainly retail/younger demographic who are unsophisticated investors and easily distracted and manipulated. As of a few months ago, he has switched to this 'the liquidity cycle has turned positive on a YoY basis so we have seen the lows in equities as of Oct 2022' - to paraphrase. He has been tinkering and re-launching RV to harness the infinite pool of crypto suckers with RV crypto ($1 but then users are fed a barrage of up-sell sales pitch to subscribe to Macro Pro and hopefully some then subscribe to GMI - that's the hope), then a financial education feature on RV. To the casual observer who is a bit green around the ears, believing the RV spin - this is all to help democratize finance and empower retail investors. In fact, it reads a lot like a founder very, very keen to exit from his business (finally, after waiting since 2019) at a higher multiple. Adding crypto and education adds more users, broadens the attractiveness to potential acquirers and - most important to Raoul - it increases his potential exit multiple. He is trying to get a 9 figure exit, and he cannot do this if markets crash. He cannot do this if crypto crashes (again). Just like he pumped Luna before it crashed and broadcast in Dec 2021 his expectation for a 10x jump higher in crypto during 2022 (right before it crashed 80%), Raoul is doing his usual pump and dump. Please everyone remember, he is a former Goldman Sachs sales man. He sold financial research produced by others. Yes he managed a fund in the early 2000s, but that was during the time in markets when anyone from a news anchor to the weatherman could raise funds to start a hedge fund. He left the game after he got lucky and scored, then retired to a tax haven to sell financial research. Please take a lot of what he says with a large helping of salt. I think he started off with average intentions in the early days of RV, but he's grown greedy and has now done a 180 deg turn on his fundamental core thesis from just prior to covid. He never mentions his big wrong calls, he just pivots onto the next shiny thing. That's how these people operate - they prey on unsophisticated retail investors. Don't subscribe to RV - it's a complete waste of money. And don't invest in stocks right now - we're near the top. Just hold cash and be very conservative. Raoul can be very dangerous as he makes these careless comments and people treat him like a messiah. He is a sales man, first and foremost. And this is his last act: to sell RV for $100m+. Don't fall for it.

Excellently put, thank you. I first stumbled upon him years back when I was not a new investor but new to crypto. He always struck me as a slippery salesman and his Goldman history made me skeptical. He is useful for a newbie with zero knowledge of finance and markets in understanding history, maybe, but I’d never trust his investing advice as he has an agenda very clearly not with the best interest of retail investors. George Gammon, Lyn Alden, even Jeff Snider are much more knowledgeable about macroeconomics and aren’t out shilling products constantly. I appreciate your post and hope people read it and remember that there are tons of professional sharks out there with their own self-serving narratives; always do your own research and listen to a variety of sources!

i think a lot of the problems are based on economies going through boom and bust cycles and major depressions. the world was falling apart in the early 1900s with all the revolutions going on and it was at a complete melting point when we ran into ww1. they print the shit out of the money for ww1 and it booms into roaring 20s and then great depression which started the leadup to ww2. were starting to see the world fall apart again. i dont think wars cause the problems but i think its the natural flaws in capitalism and the only way out before were wars and money printing…kick the can.

There's probably many doctorates worth of information to be combed through when it comes to the discrepancies between what a politician will say to get votes versus what they do after they've gotten them. No matter if it ends of being mild or extreme, I think one of the best things anyone can do right now is embrace multi-generational living, or extended family/friends living. Will be a tremendous help financially and emotionally. But honestly the benefits extend far beyond finances and mental health. It was a stigma in 2008 when kids were forced to move back in with their parents. We need to drop that idiotic stigma. Multigenerational living is a quick path to health and wealth. Don't believe me? Just quickly run the numbers in your head. But certainly, riding the recession no matter how ugly it gets will be infinitely easier if you are living family and friends.

I don't consider renting passive income unless you have professional property management. Most people who rent don't count their time and effort needed just to make a tiny return on their massive investment. For example, you invest $599,000 to buy a second home and rent it out for $3000 a month. Let assume you are cash flow positive on the property and you make $1000 a month or $12,000 a year. What would your annualized return be? 2 percent on the entire amount. Now, you can argue that your return is much higher since you only put down $120,000 on the property. However, you are on the hook for the full $600k regardless of what the future FMV of the house is. Furthermore, people assume that their home will always appreciate in value however, this is a false assumption you can make. In the best case, you will gain some capital appreciation thanks to the central bank increasing the money supply, however, if inflation heats up, you can see your property actually start to lose money in real terms. This is because there is an inverse relationship between housing and nominal interest rates. The central bank will attempt to slow down inflation with higher interest rates and curb lending. We haven't seen inflation in a big way but we can see all the massive stimulus money that the government is pumping turn into inflation while taxes will be hiked to pay for all the COVID spending, your best choice is to look into *VRI TOKEN* Its more profitable.

Amazing how Raoul never talks about gold these days after previously dismissing 'crypto' as a scam. This was well after his purported purchase of BTC in 2013 that he mentions. Presumably gold has the same qualities as BTC with respect to demutalisation and independence from central bank control.
