This story is now truly history. In doing my own research, I discovered the last Night Witch passed away in 2017. And Jojo, in case you were wondering, the reason the commissar of the 588th Bombing Regiment went looking for the sites where her girls went down is because otherwise, the girls were presumed to have defected or deserted. Therefore, she went out to prove they had died, so they could be given the awards they had earned during their service. In doing so, she thoroughly documented and created the authentic story of her girls, and what they had done to harass and stop the Nazi war machine. May no one ever say that the Russian people do not love their land so fiercely, that they are willing to give everything to repel invaders. This story is one that not only is very unique, but is one of courage and bravery -- and so should never be forgotten.

3000 tons of bombs for 23,000 sorties might not sound like a lot, because it is not. But the night bomber regiments are not supposed to drop tons of bombs, their purpose is similar to units like the SAS that the British used in Africa. Force the enemy to use a disproportionate amount of resources to counter your threat. Also mainly it stops the enemy from sleeping at night. How combat effective will your unit be after a few weeks of being raided every night? Even if only a little material damage is done by the bombs themselves, they serve as an excellent force multiplier and force divisor. edit: 3000 not 300.

This has got to be my favorite song by Sabaton. I love the story of these astonishingly fearless women flying flimsy planes of plywood and canvas, with bombs tucked under the wings, terrifying the Germans. I've read that if the bomb-release mechanism failed they would walk out on the wing and kick the bomb loose. Can you imagine a 17-year-old girl doing that? How many people of any age or gender would have that kind of courage? Thank you for your reaction. I first came to your channel for Queen, subscribed and stayed for Sabaton.
@generaldreagonlps68892 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the germans screwed up when they invaded the Soviet Union. They weren't just outnumbered by the soviet men, on top of that the Soviet Union also threw women in the fight. Maybe not in actual front line combat but definitely in important support roles like anti-aircraft crew, nurses, snipers, and others. And I don't know if it has been mentioned before, but there is also a tabletop RPG called Night Witches that is about that group.

I'm a big Sabaton fan, I've just discovered your reactions, seen them all, and I gotta say that I really like them! You make me appreciate aspects of their songs that I didn't previously notice, which I always look for in reactions, like the lyrics making you feel for/think about both sides in Bismark or just pointing our great drum parts. Great stuff, I would be glad to see you cover more Sabaton, so here are a few suggestions of mine :D - Seven Pillars of Wisdom: A great, mostly uplifting song imo about a very interesing person in history, T. E. Lawrence, with a bit of a sad ending, both in the real life story and the song - Resist and Bite: IMO a really moving "Last Stand" kind of story. Not to spoil it, but for some reason the lines "We are all! We were all!" makes be feel the feels everytime - Uprising: A story about a hopeful relatively small resistance that was (likely) just abused by bigger powers to weaken their enemies As far as I recall, No Bullets Fly and Night Witches are the only animates story videos so far, that's why I would recommend watching live versions for all other songs. Wether you'll react to my suggestions or not, I'm looking forward to seeing more :)

Not much history I can give that isn't already there. But there is some. Only small things though. The Soviet Union didn't have enough uniforms for all it's soldiers. So when this video made it look like only the women had problems with their uniforms. The men did too. Though for the men it was only a matter of wearing thicker clothing while for the women they had to improvise. As for the outdated bombers. That's all there was. They were lucky enough to even get enough planes to form a regiment. As most bombers the union had available were focused on supporting the Army and logistical bombings & not little encampment raids.

I loved the reaction my friend! if you liked the epicness of this tale, i also reccomend many cool songs from their albuns (specially the "last stand" album as a whole) - "Smoking Snakes" (a song about three brazilian soldiers fighting against a regiment of germans in WWII and refusing to surrender, even when their ammo was empty, then they attacked with knives. a pretty cool story, and an unknown tale, even in my own country) - "Ghost Division" (fast paced song about the 7th panzer division led by Rommel, which broke the record for the longest push in one day, at more than 200 miles. they were so quick and brutal that not even the germans knew where they were) - "price of a mile" (a sad, but amazing song about the sad nature of trench warfare in WWI. extremely emotional as well) - "Attack of the dead men" (a story of when the germans attacked a few russians with chlorine gas inside a fort in poland during WWI, and defying all the odds, the dying, bleeding soldiers made a last stand and by pure fear the germans retreated. imagine when people who are supposed to be dead, and look like zombies, start to rise up and fight back) - "82nd all the way" (about Alvin York, an legendary american soldier during WWI. epic as hell, specially the "Amaranthe" cover) - "To hell and back" (about Audie Murphy, one of the greatest WWII soldiers and most condecorated american soldier, and his battles with PTSD) - "inmate 4859" (tells the story of Witold Pilecki, one of the leaders of polish resistance during WWII, and a man that not only got into auschwitz but broke out of it, and lived to lead the warsaw ghetto uprising) -"White Death" (my personal favorite. tells the tale of one of the greatest snipers in history, Simo Hayha, who is credited with more than 580 kills. he buried himself in the deep finnish snow during the winter war, and spread terror among the invading soviet enemies. Not only that, he didn't use a sight in his rifle, to avoid detection by reflecting light) and many others! @@JoJoLewis but it is true. More... The wave of patriotism was so high, that the Orthodox Church asked the believers to donate and managed to collect enough funds to buy the tank column "Dmitry Donskoy" (named after famous Medieval warrior). The column was formed of 19 T-34-85 main battle tanks, and 21 OT-34 flamethrower tanks and was given to the army at March 1944. One of few survived tanks was (by special blessing of Alexij II, the Patriarch) placed at the Don Monastery to keep the memories of priests and believers whose donations allowed to build that column.

Ah, the Nachthexen, turn off your engine on your dirty old crop dusters and go in soundlessly. Your top speed is lower than the stalling speed of your opponents fighters, you can turn tighter circles, are much more nimble, but also much slower, also carrying more bombs than they were designed for. So crazy what the Night Witches did, I love the history and the song is awesome, the brutal intro is just IN YOUR FACE amazing. Recommendations: To Hell And Back, about Audie Murphy and what a bad ass he was, the real world Captain America (with PTSD). 40-1, about the start of WW2, the resistance against the Blitzkrieg. The Attack of the Dead Men, about Russians resisting not only a gas attack but also a massive charge, 7000 Germans against 100ish barely alive Soviets. Smoking Snakes, Gotta give some love to the Brazilian Expeditionary Force! White Death, a Finnish Sniper Simo Häyhä, with more kills than any other sniper... and all of them in 3 months against the invading Russians during the Winter War. Screaming Eagles is about Americans, with the famous qutoe of NUTS! Ghost in the Trenches, a song about Francis Pegahmagabow, a Canadian First Nation (native people) sniper and scout in WW1. Best in the live versions, because the audience makes things even better.

Sabaton have a history episode on ever song of theirs, sometimes even a followup episode expanding on the topic, except for the new Christmas Truce. As cou could tell this song started off with a bang and that is because Sabaton tend to put the first song of the album to kickstart the epicness, Night Witches, Ghost Division, The Future of Warfare, The Lion From the North, Coat of Arms and the second on that album Midway and Attero Dominatus all being pretty fast paced. The only first song on an album of theirs to not be so fast is Sparta but even that one sounds powerful and has the march to war feel to it. While you have PLENTY of Sabaton songs and obviously other band's songs to go through if you feel like throwing in something different now and then id recommend you Alestorm or Powerwolf as they just make fun music and their last albums were amazing.
