It's probably their most ambitious and progressive album with some of their most technically sound music. I read somewhere that there are a couple of songs on this album that they don't play in concerts because they're so technically difficult to pull off live. It really is a great album, which is what makes it that much more disappointing to me that it was hamstrung and intentionally sabotaged by Lars because, apparently, he just wanted to be a douchebag to the new guy, and directed the sound engineers to turn the bass guitar down to the point that it's almost nonexistent. As good as this album is, it could, and should have, sounded even better.

Love seeing peoples reactions when they get dragged into the real music because this music does take you in deep! Nothing can everbeat a musician playing their instrument. Thank you for the replay of the solo LOL. It is the dogs! Have a listen to kill em all , The vocals are different again in my opinion, but then that was their first album. Keep it coming. Bro, Trapped Under Ice from Ride The Lighting is extremely underrated! It was one of my favorite riffs ever in it. When you here that riff, you'll know it's the one I'm talking about. And I'm glad you did this one. It hit you like it hit me the first time I heard it. And don't worry about climbing onboard the Metallica Express now. It's not late! It's never too late!! Letting it go by without ever jumping on would be tragic. As an old school Metallica fan that bought these tapes on the day they came out, I love seeing people's reactions to hearing their awesomeness for the first time. It's like reliving that moment again in my own life. A moment in time that is there and gone so quickly yet so cherished. You give us a chance to feel that again, just a little bit, with your reactions. Thanks for that. It's priceless to me.

Mine started with a compilation album called "Speed Kills" and grew from there. Hell ya, man. Dyers Eve is one of my favourites (top 5). Unfortunately you’ll have a tough time finding a live version of this track as they do not play it (consensus is that it’s just too much for Lars to play - and the drumming is insane tbf). A few other things: And Justice was released in ‘88. It is their most aggressive album, but you are certainly correct in suggesting that it doesn’t sound as ‘heavy’, which is because Jason Newsted, the bassist who joined the band in ‘86, a few weeks after Cliff Burton’s passing, was effectively hazed (bullied) for his first few years and part of that was Lars and James deciding to effectively take him out of the mix of this album (his bass was turned down multiple decibels on the recording). You can find all sorts of documentaries, interviews, etc. on the topic. There are versions of And Justice on KZbin where the bass has been turned up, and it sounds amazing (probably their best album if it had been recorded that way originally). It’s only been in recent years that Metallica has publically acknowledged that he was mistreated. Basically they were just really angry about Cliff’s death and didn’t know how to grieve/cope (they were a bunch of kids who basically just turned to drinking - it was around this time that they were known as ‘Alcoholica’). Jason joined the band after they held auditions really soon after Cliffs death (again didn’t help with the grieving process), and Jason was a huge fan of them, which they resented for whatever reason. Anyways, Jason has always been my favourite member of the band (he was their bassist from ‘86 to ‘01, so 15 years of service). He’s also the only person to ever quit Metallica willingly, which is a statistic on its own (he left because James wouldn’t allow him to pursue any side projects). His on-stage energy was unrivalled, and when you check out their live shows from the late 80’s in particular (a lot of people recommending ‘89 Seattle which is a must imo), you will see just how intense and talented he is (his vocals alone are insane, not to mention his super aggressive attack on the bass). He made Metallica the live band that they became and while Cliff Burton was a creative genius, I think Jason embodied what Metallica meant to the fans. Either way, you should check out For Whom the Bell Tolls ‘85 ‘On the Green’, which showcases Cliffs talent on the bass (and you get to see a very young Metallica, after Ride the Lightning has released but before Master). Keep in mind Metallica weren’t really the machine that they are now until the early 90’s when the ‘Black’ album released. Otherwise, you should really just check out the entire Seattle ‘89 concert (could break it up into multiple videos for a nice back log of uploads). It’s Metallica at their peak and everyone is firing on all cylinders (they also play almost every song faster than the album for almost 2x hours straight …)

You are the 2nd person I've seen with a custom jersey. I have a baseball and basketball one. The quality are so good. I got them both 1 & 2 months ago. The baseball Jersey I got Metal Inc, stitched on it along with my last name and #81 the year I was born.

And Justice for all to me is their best instrumental album. Lars on the double bass is absolutely sick! Check out Havester of Sarrow live in Moscow. I believe it was 1992…it will definitely get your blood pumping! I’m 51 now and was extremely lucky to be around when all these albums were released and also was able to see them live a few times in Chicago. They are in my top 3 Metal bands that really influenced and inspired me to play the drums. And I can tell already that they are doing the same thing for you! Plus it makes me happy to see that the younger generations can listen and hear what we heard and felt was it was first coming out. Keep up the journey and enjoy the ride!!!🤘🤘🤘

I love your eyes, cause they remind of my own, when I was a kid and heard this for the first time. I could only describe it, that feeling, as pain. Ooof, a good pain

This is the most fast paced rockiness tune from And Justice for All.. as a 59 year old man now I appreciate the fact that you are discovering true music that was considered music before all this nonsense started coming out.. glad to see you broadening your horizons..

Bro the kick is unbelievably quick which makes the song so full on and uplifting , Ive loved this track since it came out , nothing came close to its speed and melodic wonder however Lars cant play that double kick live which dosnt suprise me , Im a drummer myself and I cant even play that with my hands slapping the leg for the whole tune, you try it! still its a great tune and Ill always buzz out when I thrash out

This cassette never left my Walkman. I think it may still be in there. I don't know because it quit working and I can't find the tape.

Old dude story time. When this album came out in I played this song and Blackened over and over so many times it started demagnetizing the cassette tape on that section and the sound would drop in and out... lol. The lack of Bass in the mix always did kind of bug me because the Bass on the EP they put out right before this "Garage Days EP", was just amazing.
