Some music has only melody, no harmony. Other music like ambient has no rhythm. Rap not only has rhythm, but supports a melodic and harmonic beat, and also is a poetic artform.

if it ain't got melody, it ain't music IMO. I'll grant that it's an art form, but not music. And it seems to me like it is for people who are tone deaf.

I remember him saying classical music was the only form of real music back in 2018. Most close minded people have very little frame of reference. The thing about ben is he uses his narrow scope and lack of knowledge to his advantage. He can speak on things with certainty because his frame of reference is narrow.

I would have to agree.. all sounds much the same & same topic about drugs - jewellery - money - sex - Thats it - Everyone & Anyone can do it pretty much & take those topic & do it with a beat. You dont need any creative ideas just copy all other Rappers topic & rearrange it. look at Ice Spice cant not even understand her words & is all the same vocal melody each song from one to the other.

Jay Z said his first real actual song. Was "Young forever". Which was literally albums later, in his career. I don't remember why he said that, but he 100% said that.

I have to agree with Ben , it isn't an insult btw towards "rap" cause ngl I love rap but indeed you need melody , harmony and rythm.. What you said was not Rap being Harmony , it's actually putting Rap in Harmony with the music. Because rap was actually a form of expression on rythm .. The benefit of this is : to create music you need Harmony , rhytm and melody .. But because Rap is speaking on rythm , you can littarly put it on ANY genre to create music. So , rap isn't music itself BUT it can become part of music.

It's true that the three "rules" of music are melody, harmony, and rhythm. But there's nothing that says you can't break the rules when it comes to music. That's why rap music is so groundbreaking. That's what this dude doesn't understand. Who cares if it's an old video.

I don’t even really think it breaks the rules when it comes down to that. As far as rapping goes the rapper can have a melody inside their flow with ease kinda like how producers pitch hihats. And even then it still meshes in with the beat without causing any issues.

Rap is ART. Music is an ART. Sometimes musician has to learn from Academy or Colleges. But Real music can survive only in street and Our life. Rap also melodies Lyrics Soul . We should ignore his opinion hh

now imma say this, rap is actually spoken words, u can rap without a beat its all about rhythm and flow, but rap these days is not rap the harmony,autotune, and melodies killing hip hop, i listento hip hop since i was a kid to this day, u got artist care more bout the money and fame and melodies than them actually rapping, so many underrated artist that can rap and literally building their own craft getting overshadowed by the hip hop music industry, melodic rap is not rap its sung which is literally singing but its a slap in the face to actually singers in other genres as in like its saying we can do it 10times better, hip hop now is hip pop not hip hop no more, new school hip pop not really hittin hittin like actual hip hop, miss the old hip hop, hip hop envolved in a bad way
