Hygiene and taste aren't the same thing. You can make tasty food in a dirty kitchen. Most households don't live up to the hygiene and food safety standards that public establishments are held to (and with good reason). My point is that if the food or service is bad, that doesn't mean it's not clean and if it's clean it doesn't mean the food is good. Also, in Canada we don't have a 31st of June. I did not know that London had a different calendar.

Very good video. Trouble is when these places get 0 they just close down and re-open under another name. Hygiene people have to keep doing catch up with them. Very dodgy people always run them. @eisamiller883 жыл бұрын
In the USA, we call it Health Inspection Scores and it's usually organized by the state Health Departments. I don't know if every state has a website for it, but my state does. We also have a mobile app. Restaurants in the US are also required by law to display their Health Scores in a high visibility area in the restaurant (usually just inside the door). The health department has the authority to force restaurants to close if they are below a certain score. We use a 0-100 scale. I think the cut off to close doors is somewhere in the 60s range but I don't know for sure.

In the State of Virginia, we have the Department of Health that does routine inspections of any establishment that sells food. The ratings are posted on their website under "Restaurant Inspections" so anyone can read what happened in the inspection. Restaurants that don't make the grade are temporarily shut down until they meet standard food safety/sanitation standards. Sometimes they comment that corrections were made during the inspection.

There is a website depending on your county and whether they make that information available to the public, which it should be. For example, here in Los Angeles the public health department uploads detailed documents on what each food establishment was rated on and what that particular establishment failed to achieve based on each food safety criteria. I recently read a document about a Taco Bell restaurant near me that was given a B for having a broken refrigerator with cheese in there. That brought down the score by a whole letter grade. Also, the document stated what risks would be taken if that particular Taco Bell chose to serve that cheese. In addition, you’re able to request a printed statement from a food establishment breaking down what the food inspector wrote on their health report. However, knowing how easily offended and angered some people can be, I don’t think it’s too common to get a printed statement. You’ll most likely be told to fuck off, haha. Unless it’s a big food chain 🤪

This is a way better system that what we have in the states. A lot of jurisdictions have only pass or fail and you would be very disappointed with what can constitute a pass. In my opinion, King County (Seattle area) has a better system that doesn’t require you to go to the internet to get first impressions of a restaurant. Ratings are based on an emoji system with 4 risk categories (😁😊🙂😐) and those are posted right at the entrance. If someone wants more information regarding the rating process they can always visit the county’s website.

How do these places with that low of a hygiene rating allowed to stay open to the public??? They couldnt get away with that in the United states were I'm from!!!! I wouldnt wanna live over there if it's like that....NO THANK YOU!!!!!
@pinkesthibiscus3 жыл бұрын
They’re shut down if there’s an immediate risk to public safety, which doesn’t cover everything it should. They have 21 days to appeal if they disagree with the rating. Otherwise these places are given a month to improve and then they’re revisited by the food safety officer and might be partially/completely shut down. That’s my understanding anyway, I’m not an expert though! But yes I 100% agree, places with such a low rating really shouldn’t be allowed to stay open. I understand giving warnings and allowing time to improve but when things are that bad, those businesses clearly don’t care about the health of their customers.
