Hey Lyle, I've been putting off making an adjustable stop for my Bridgeport. It occurred to me whilst watching your most excellent video that I could cheat on the graduations by boring the original stop into a collar and then pressing it on to the new one. I would of course need to do that before drilling for the button. As an alternative if I modify your dimensions slightly, I could maybe make it a slip fit with a locking grub screw so it can be zeroed. I have a touch DRO fitted which combines the knee and the quill dimensions but you can't beat a physical stop as a protection against those senior moments.

A very good project by virtue of it's utility. Something I picked up on is that the sides of your brown and sharp knurl-er need to be lets say, an additional 3/8 thick. (Also a very good project in My eyes) I have thought since I first saw your knurl-er videos that that B&S knurl-er is something I will definitely duplicate some time. I was able to get rough dimensions and to glean the layout by scaling the pics. form the video's. watching you use it for this project helped to point out a short coming in the original design. (not that the center hole is not staring you in the face :). So I say Thank You Very Much Mr.Pete, Keep Up the Good Work.

Watched to the end. I enjoy seeing order of operations and the planer gage trick. I don’t (yet) own a Bridgeport, but still found it interesting. I bought your Bridgeport video set when I was a member of the Knox Makers group, though I had to leave the group because they were just too far away. Hi, Lyle YES!!! I'm still with you. I always enjoy your presentations, as I am very aware of what it takes to make instructional videos., I made training videos and 16 mm film presentations for the Air Force 50 + years ago, full studio production with 2-inch-wide videotape. The VTR weighed over 2000 pounds, and the Color camera about 980 pounds. The worst part of the whole process were the actors/presenters. Most of them couldn't remember their lines. One video on soldering electronic components took all day to shoot., because the actor kept screwing up his lines, or shrouding the shot. When we finally got it done, he looks up and smiles to mock us, and puts his hand right on the heated soldering pencil. He lets out a yell and adlibs the final line " And don't put your hand on the soldering iron!!!" We kept it in, and every Airforce and Army training sight used that film for training. I think even the Navy used our films as well, as the actors appeared in various uniforms, of different service branches, and of different ranks. I used more modern video equipment in my school shops almost 40 years ago, and the equipment was so much better, and lighter. The kids loved them, as I always put in something funny to keep them awake. Unfortunately, the best use of video recording in my last years of teaching was in recording student mis behavior. Some parents were hard to convince, but video mate it very real for them!!! LOL!!! It seems that their little angles DID know all those words after all!! LOL!!! Tim

Thank you for the comment. Very interesting. I always wondered how they made those army training films, because some of them are very very good. In 1966. I was still in college and everyone had to make a short video presentation. The video tape player Was on wheels and was the size of a bedroom dresser. The camera was huge and on a massive tripod. Within a few years everything was miniaturized. I had a friend who was a shop teacher, and there was a problem with discipline and stealing. He set up a Hidden camera to record this behavior. And was told by the administration not to do that.

Many thanks for another informative video: I watched to the end. I need one of these. Like you, I find the factory-fitted quill stop to be a bit of a pain. Mine's even worse because at some point in its life, someone has bent the screw slightly, making it really hard to turn the stop. I should probably fit a new one when I upgrade the stop itself. I'm therefore all in favour of a video showing how to dismantle the original parts and fit the new!
