Definitely interested in the graduations. I want to make graduated dials for my lathe (which doesn’t have them), and have seen your videos doing that. But if others are interested, and you are willing, then as much material on graduating dials (maybe with different methods for those of us with minimal shop equipment) would be greatly appreciated. Are you not worried about possible galvanic corrosion between the brass and stainless steel?

@@grntitan1 There is NO problem. This is from Google Search. When it comes to stainless steel (301, 304 and 310) and brass, they are only two metals apart, which means they can be safely connected together with minimal risk of galvanic corrosion. Hope this helps. Regards from Australia.

I made one for my SX3 bench top mill last year when I added a Quill depth stop to it. For the spring I used a Cone shaped compression spring as when compressed they are almost flat. It allows for a slightly shallower bore in the main body

@@mrpete222 I just picked through the options at my local Ace hardware store and bought several that seemed promising. The one I used measures 1/2" OD on the large end, 5/16" OD on the small end, About 11/16" long uncompressed, and is made with 0.032" wire. It will compress to about 0.065". The closest I can find on McMaster Carr are, 1692K938, 1692K25, and 1692K24. But they are all a bit different. I find it's hard to buy springs online if you don't know exactly what you want. They are hard to visualize especially spring rate and max force.

Mr. Pete This is a Brilliant addition to one's toolroom. The standard AL model with the Scissors attachment only allows 0.050 " adjustment. Your new model solves all of this issues with the prior concept. Wait till the Chinese Copycats get ahold of this idea. They'll have 20 million of them available next week, for about 38 cents. It's funny you posted this mill stop. My Wells-Index mill is equipped with a similar "quick stop" made similar to this one. Instead of a push button it has a thumb screw that you loosen and disengage from the threaded stem and move to the position you want. Tighten the thumb screw and adjust the micrometer stop and your set up. As always, thanks for sharing, can't wait for part 2. Ken

Love all of your content. Learned minimal machining in high school and work at a machine shop part time for $4.50/ hrs when I was in my teens. Mainly cutting stock to length for the machinists. Now I've bought a lathe , Bridgeport and a surface grinder and plan on learning with the help of Mr. PETE.

The spring in the commercial one is too stiff for me, so I made one, just as you did. But for the graduations, I shortened and bored out the original stop, keeping just the graduation ring, and pressed it on to the body of the shop-made one. It has a nice satin chrome finish with paint filled lines, so it looks nicer than the commercial one to boot.

If you are referring to the R8 arbor for annular cutters, yes. I received it. Thank you very very much. I really wanted one of those. It is already shown in my next this and that video to be published in a few days. Then, yesterday I showed this in yet another video, where I made an arbor with a number three Morse taper. This arbor is meant to hold the annual or cutters in a Lathe tail stock. That video also shows your r8 arbor. That video will not appear for several weeks Again thank you ever so much for that and I will not disclose your identity. Keep watching.

I always wondered why quill stops are made around threaded rod? Plain shaft, with split pin clamp is much quicker to use, much easier to produce, and adding precise threaded extension on the top (or the bottom if you use it in a drill press) so you can move in 1/100 of mm increments is easy.

My Delta drill press quill stop rod is acme threaded with two flats on opposite sides. One like this that just engages a small area of thread won't work due to the flats. I suppose I could just replace it with threaded rod.

The snap ring is a real problem, that you need to make a solid stop that does not rely on using the snap ring for a stop.

This is brilliant! Is there any reason you couldn't use a split piece with magnets? Similar to the hinged setup from the previous video but a fully cylindrical 'puck' threaded and cut in half with magnets glued into blind holes on both sides.

There is an original on my Bridgeport, the spring is very strong and is difficult to press/use.

The thing I dont like about that design is the nut is the part that locates onto the thread to set the height, and the nut can have movement or slop in the 5/8 bore, so the main body of the device can have play which you dont want. A better design would be to have the thread cut into the main body of the device itself, with some spring button etc that holds that thread in engagement but allows for disengagement to slide it up and down.
