If the joists sat on a foundation ledge and the brackets were there to tie to the outer edges, maybe but those brackets could never support the weight of the floor by themselves. Now, if this was a fancy deck, yes
@zozoart Жыл бұрын
How do you figure those hangers could not support the weight of the floor?
@DevilTravels Жыл бұрын
@@zozoart granted, for short run floor joists, they could handle a light load, but it's always best if a floor joist is set on top of a more substance surface to carry the weight. And then there's the long term effects, since metal that thing can rust or oxidize over time and lose strength. Actually, these hangers might work really well for a tiny house build.
@ITWConstructionProductsOffsite11 жыл бұрын
It is a "rapid floor" in the sence that the floor can be loaded without the need for 3 courses of cured blockwork above the hangers. This is due to the design of the RBJH joist hanger.

Just make the 8cm more longer, then you dont needd the expensive steeel hook.. plus more strenght to hold the weight
@gregvisioninfosoft4 жыл бұрын
Can you explain this better to someone who is new to this method? When you say the '8cm more longer' what do you mean? Thanks. Have you actually used this method? How expensive are these supportive joists?
@susetyoediprabowo36814 жыл бұрын
@@gregvisioninfosoft when you cut the wood more longer..so it can sit firm on the wall.. you dont need the hook anymore.. 8cm was only base on the average width of the brick that i knew.. it 8cm wide.. you can put the edge of bar in the middle of the brick.. on both side.. left and right.. thats why you need more 8cm length extension.. it may be vary depends on the size of brick you used.. but it only option you can pick.. choose what you prefer..
@gregvisioninfosoft4 жыл бұрын
@@susetyoediprabowo3681 in this example, notice there is both cinder block and an exterior brick layer also. if the beams extended from cinder block to cinder block (eg: the old fashioned way). it is only because there is an exterior brick layer that would prevent rain from damaging the ends of the beam, that your suggestion could work. but what if ther e is ONLY cinder block wall - and no exterior protection from rain or moisture? can one use a weatherproof outer insulation? I am very interested to lern the viable options...
@susetyoediprabowo36814 жыл бұрын
@@gregvisioninfosoft thats what we indonesian used to do.. as i said it is option.. a lot of builder here did this.. cause we covered the wall with cement from outside to protect from the rain.. this way might be seem traditional or backward.. but I dont want to use that hook only to look modern.. while there is other easyest,simple cheaper way ..
@susetyoediprabowo36814 жыл бұрын
@@gregvisioninfosoft i also have doubted ..about the strength of that hook... For how long that hook could last holding that beam ??.. could it fight corrosion process ??

A lot of work and expense. Just use a top plate and anchor bolts and set joist on it. Your floor sheeting will stiffen the top and add bottom web stiffeners.
@koogleyou5577 жыл бұрын
You will pay as much for the hardware as you would if you went with lumber. Im also reading and hearing that these I joists (which really are nice to work with dont hold up against mold and mildew as raw lumber does. We are over engineering. Price out this flr then price it w lumber.

if the blocks had openings , joyses can rest directly on top the blocks . to avoid any extra metal braces and supports . construction should be simple , solid , and 100% secure . don't mix science with construction

I bet those hangers cost much more than a typical 2x8 plate. Also you loose 8 inches on each side of the house if you set the walls on top of the joists like you are supposed to. Just not a very well thought idea.

Gracias.

Problem: These flake board floor joist will burn like match sticks under fire. Even the glue is a accelerant. No one in their right mind would live in a house that has sub floors made of these particle board light weight fast floor joist. Fast burning is the problem! Just ask any fireman.
@johnmason12399 жыл бұрын
dave Drolett yes needs better floor boards, maybe firepproof paint en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intumescent#Applications or aluminized sheet around those boards to trap thermal heat& stop fire, but latter would be pricey
@epistte8 жыл бұрын
+dave Drolett Those joists are nicknamed widwomakers by fire departments for a reason. You need to interspace them with dimensional lumber for fire safety. Even a small fire is a complete teardown. I like wooden floor trusses instead.

It’s trash, and the cost of quality materials produces a quality job. Osb is a low cost filler material that is laminated and has no resistance to moisture and breaks very easy. This will never last a 30 year mortgage.

@grumpy old fart - OSB has a structure of Short Grain, Random Orientation, Wood, whereas Plywoods are Long Grain Veniers, of about similar thickness. I would select Plywood, of at least 5 Ply, if not 7 ply, for replacement of the OSB I-Beam Riser. Plywood could be even stronger, by adding 2 Cores at the 45° x 45° Orientation, in the Center, followed by the 0° & 90° Orientation, of typical Plywood!
