youtube algorithm brought me here.. even tho i live here and drive by all these places every day i watched this video for some reason. as a life long resident id always recommend tourists check out skyline drive. if you arent as lucky as this guy and dont get a 9th floor alex johnson hotel room and are stuck somewhere in the crossing with no view, skyline drive is one of the best views in town. especially if you get up there for sunset, you'll catch a beautiful sunset over the black hills and then facing the other direction you can watch the city light up as it starts getting dark. its truly my favorite part of the city. i cant appreciate that road enough, i make a drive up there every few weeks

Former RC, SD resident here, so the KZbin algorithm dropped your video in my feed. Fun trip down memory lane. BTW, I really appreciate your attention to supporting small, local businesses when you travel and how you immerse yourself to enjoy the local vibe. Nicely done!

There is a large section of floodwall along the Mississippi River in St. Louis, just a few blocks south of the Arch, that is another place where people are encouraged to paint. Some of it is very good. Also, like much of the west, and the Black Hillls are a bit like the foothills of the Rockies, there is much more of a fire season now. Some folks I used to know had a cabin southwest of Custer about 20 miles. While they had the place there was very close fires almost every year. Once the Fire came almost right to the house, but firefighters were able to shoot a ton of foam fire retardant and it was saved. I heard that it is really smoky there right now.

Have you been to Sioux Falls also? If so, which city is better in your opinion? I’ll be retiring very soon and my wife and I were thinking about relocating to South Dakota.

Oh man Jolly, you are in a real WIN WIN situation! We have driven through Sioux Falls and we like it a lot too. Both are in great areas, with great access to spectacular parks, and tons of scenery. Let me know how this turns out!!!!

Sioux falls is bigger and will have more to offer, but there isn't as much to do outside the city, where in rapid you have the Hills and everything that comes with them.

@@MichaelSnyder1776 We visited in September and looked at both Rapid City and Sioux Falls. You’re dead on with your assessment. I’m retiring at the end of this month and plan on moving to Rapid City within the next 6 months. We loved it. Thank you

Hey David....... this area has really made an impression on us..... We have made 3 trips over the last 8 years. I might not be the best person to ask, but we like a LOT about this area. You have access to several National Park units, probably the best state park in the US, and lots of great nature and history. AND, though Rapid City is definitely urban, it has a casual feel. Not too uptight. I have to say that it is an area on my short list of places to retire.
