First off the brutal winters you refer to are also enchanting, magical, and refreshing!
@bellybutthole69Ай бұрын
Enchanting for the first week. then it's christmas time so you don't think about it, but then end of January/February you get into a "All right I'm done with this garbage" mood. And then the days starts getting longer, you get through the "snow is melting but it's all brown" season , followed by "screw you it's still winter here's some snow again!" season. Finally somewhere in April/May there will be one magical day where there is no snow, it's around 15 degrees and the whole city emerge from it's stupor and everybody is outside, on the padeos enjoying a beer, walking in the parks and all that. The brutal winters makes the summer just that much more enjoyable :)

@@gabrielb.langlois2275 Winters in Montreal are nice and cozy indeed, except for these mid-season icing rains, you don't suffer at all ... since I live in a secluded place of the Laurentides it's way different, yes it's brutal and painful here, and ure sometimes stuck at home for days with a shaky power supply, waiting for the snow plow to pass by, but once ure organized and have enough food and wood to burn ... I ended up loving it too :)

Also please spend more time in the many beautiful squares that we have such as square Dorchester, square Victoria, square St-Louis, etc. And finally a visit of the Golden square Mile, around McGill University is a must. Lifelong montrealer here, you’re absolutely right, it’s a beautiful multicultural vibrant city which offers all kinds of experience, even I keep discovering new things in my city at 44 years old. But the whole green movement with all the bicycle lanes, and pedestrian streets, and all those efforts the eliminate vehicles off the streets… could people get back to reality!? There are things that need to be done to maintain the state of the city, to ensure safety for everyone… there are workers like carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc… that require heavy equipements, and a truck, and now it’s getting complicated, and more expensive to do their jobs! Even worse, every seconds count when there is an emergency, and when a fire truck, or an ambulance has to go down 2 or 3 blocks further down the street to get to his emergency because existing streets are shut down to cars for ease of walking for tourists and shoppers, that is absurd!! Who’s going to loose his life when an ambulance took 75 seconds too long to get to you because it couldn’t turn on that pedestrian street? Let’s use common sense people, a street is a street and it was made for a purpose, let’s educate ourselves and the irresponsibles out there to use each pathways for what they were meant, streets = motorized vehicles sidewalks = pedestrians bike lanes = bicycles And there should be no concept of "lane sharing"! It is mind boggling to me that people keep wanting to bike in the middle of a street with passing cars… what if an old man as an heart attack while driving, and runs over a family that is just casually out for a chill bike ride? It’s certainly not the old man’s fault, but there will be a mourning family no matter what! What if it’s a mechanical issue and the car can’t stop because of worn out brakes, still a tragedy could occur, even if the driver has all the best intentions in the world and he’s pressing as hard as he can on the brake pedal! Through out the years, we’ve had numbers of dead cyclists in the Montreal area, with cars, heavy trucks, trailers… sometimes it was clearly the drivers fault by making a questionable move, and some other times it’s the cyclist who’s being irresponsible and puting himself in a dangerous position, but in 100% of cases, a person sitting on a bicycle has literally -1000% chance of survival against a 2000 -4000 lbs rolling metal box! Let’s use common sense people I’ve seen enough situation with my own eyes that could’ve cost somebody’s life involving a cyclist in the middle of a street that, like we say in French : "Ça prend pas la tête à Papineau" to understand that even though it’s based on good intentions, it’s a bad idea, it’s a dangerous idea. If you read it this far, thank you! You are probably one who shares this mindset, 👍🏻

@martincote6499Ай бұрын
@@propriapersona6479 Funny, I always thought English was « the other official language », but I digress… You say « luxury » but to me (for me? I’m busted, I’m a French-Canadian), it’s more laziness. French speaking people, in the federal civil service at least, do NOT have a choice BUT to become proficient English while their English speaking counterparts don’t. When the English speaking people want to get promoted, they will cry their hearts out because they do not have the appropriate second language profile and will move heaven and earth to go on (ideally) full-time, PENSIONABLE, second language training for a second language profile that expires in 5 years. Since they won’t practice during those five years. Their proficiency will have dropped and they will « need » to go on SLT (hint, that is code for French training for anglos)again, on company PENSIONABLE time…

Tiresome how privileged people equate lack of cleanliness with homelessness. Rubbish lying about is not the same as unhoused people occupying public space.

First sentence is very obviously wrong and that's clear for anyone who lives in Canada. Not worth the watch.

@@joenroute9646 True, Chicago & Montrea - while both great cities - are not very comparable. And btw, there is _fabulous_ world-class cuisine available in Montreal (if you can afford that kind of thing).

@@RichFinn-ue2yw Cities aren't just contenstants in a rankings game! They're organic events in time, expressions of a population and its economy and era. Both Chic and Mtl are amazing places that you could inhabit & explore for a lifetime. (That said, you'd be considerably _safer_ in Montreal... less divide & alienation between rich & poor, races & ethnicities, educated & uneducated, etc. )

montréal is not a good place to live in, I lived there for 6 years(plateau and pointe claire). The downs upweights the ups, and living outside of mtl such as st-lambert (where I lived for 12years) is even worse. Moving to qc city was the best decision I ever made.

looks like they don't promote birth control too much over there. Damn these places are so jampacked with people and it's something that you have to be comfortable with I imagine.

11 million tourists come to visit Montreal every year. Only 1.8 million people live on the island of Montreal.

You guys did not do your research. Weilenskies is only famous because it is the worst restaurant in the city, and has not changed decor at all since the 1930s. They did not serve smoked meat. They serve depression-era mystery meat. It's kind of a museum/dare more than an actual restaurant. Also, downtown is a neighborhood - what you were showing is called Old Montreal or the Old Port and Chinatown. As well, Mile End and Le Plateau are two completely different places with completely different vibes and resident socio-economics. Wow, what a lazy effort.

The dark side of Montreal: thousands of panhandlers, poorest city in Canada, many violent demonstrations with smashed store windows, many strikes, poor customer service, waiters ask for tips, cyclists will tell you to move over, pay for parking evenings and weekends, potholes all over, few jobs, I lived there for 28 years, had enough, never regret leaving.

wait staff only ask for tips because tourists, even those from toronto, do not tip. bunch of mr. pink's. if your pint of beer is 7$, you give them 8. every city has the negatives you mentioned. poorest cities in canada are van & tor, not even close. panhandlers in montreal are only downtown. same for the protests, always downtown, & usually only about once a year. a few rich corporations have to pay for new windows, big deal. pay to park is everywhere. we deal with the negatives & celebrate the positives, with a smile. good riddance, we don't need you.
