Rapid Response to Help Injured Bull Elephant | Sheldrick Trust

Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

The bulls dont protect the herd. They live solitary lives and occasionally adopt 1 or 2 askaris.

Its awe inspiring to watch the SWT team help this magnificent Bull elephant. They are so experienced in these rescues and always make it look easy. It can be very complex and dangerous work at times. Thanks to the Big Life rangers for spotting the wound on the elephant and a rapid response by the SWT/ KWS Amboseli Mobile Vet Unit, this Majestic Bull Elephant should completely recover from his injury. SWT continues to inspire me and so many people around the world with their conservation work. Thanks for everything you do helping the wildlife and people of Kenya.

It’s UMOJA! Born 8/87 to ULLA into Amboseli’s UA family. According to my sources, there’s a new Tusker at Selenkay and most likely it’s X004, who joined PAOLO after musth season on a trip to Selenkay, reportedly the first time for him. After musth he usually roamed to the Kili area in TZ, but most likely he was warned to enter that zone, after the killings of 2 Supertuskers by trophy hunters!

Thanks for your interesting update on this elephant that is named UMOJA. How sad and disgraceful that 2 Super tuskers have recently ben killed by trophy hunters in Tanzania. The people that kill these magnificent animals are warped in the mind and a disgrace to the human race. Lets hope UMOJA stays safe. @@HannesKaechele

@@finchatton1 I read that trophy hunters are killing close to the same number of elephants as ivory poachers. The US allows these "trophies" into our country, and this needs to stop.

I had just watched a video of men killing an elephant that was Grazing Peacefully with its herd. I switched to saving elephants in need videos, and was proud of those kind men.
