It is such a great deal. I don't even do HO and am waiting for my 2nd mystery box to arrive. I might even order a 3rd 🙂

It's still at least a "good" deal, since even in DC these locos would still exceed the cost of the box. But it's not "as good" as if they were both DCC, which some people have been getting. I'll have to budget to get a few in early next year, if they do it again. It seems like they may be finally running out of old stock that they're trying to unload with these mystery boxes.

Was this the cheaper Silent Night box? Could explain why there were only two rolling stock. I don't think you'll have to re-wire anything, just drop in the decoder and go!

They do two rolling stock with the more expensive locos. That’s what happened in my box that had the D10 switcher

This was a Premium box. With my others (including last year) I got 3 rolling stock in them. I have decoders on order that should be here in a couple days, and I'll do a video of that when I test them. It does look like it should be drop-in, which is odd, because the traces on the board don't look like that should work; but it is what it is.

that is very wrong and deceitful...if they dont make it right for you I would not support Rapido...putting a DC loco in a DCC w/Sound box is unacceptable.

Jordan mentioned a couple weeks before I got this one that they are running out of DCC, and you may at some point get DC. I took my chances. With the mystery boxes, it's kind of hit and miss, and I don't think they actually even honor the warranty with these, but I may be mistaken. I did send them an email about it, but never got a reply. I'll be doing a video soon about the decoder installs. I'm not using the "recommended" ones, so it should be interesting to see what happens. Technically it shouldn't matter, but functions may need to be remapped. As of a few days ago, you can no longer order the premium boxes, only the cheaper ones. If they run completely out of DCC shelf stock, that may impact their decision to do this again next year, but I guess we'll have to wait to see on that one.

@@NortheastRails-NB OK, I did not realize that, thought they were all DCC...you mentioned possible no warranty...so are they giving away old stock or demo stock? I gather that is why they give them away so cheap. At least you had an idea going in.

It was a Premium box. Jordan did say a couple weeks ago that "they were running low on DCC", so this may be the result of that. Though I ordered it at the end of November, so that's really running out of stock early. We'll see where it goes. I did email them asking about it.

@@NortheastRails-NB Sealed in a DCC marked box is an error on their part. They probably want to investigate the batch.
