I get asked about what I believe is the best martial art to train in for self defense I immediately say kali without a doubt as far as my experience goes. It's helped my in so many ways I only wish that I could still train with it now and until I get called away from this rock!!

If anything drove the nail in for me with FMA, it was Paul Vunak describing the different fighting ranges. He mentioned that there is a subset of FMA where they *specialise* in biting - if that isnt hardcore, I dont know what is. Training with live blades is (obviously) hardcore martial arts, but biting into an opponents face says 'I'll do anything to be the one who walks away from this'. For those of us who've never been in jail, and have no intention of changing that, the question is whether we could look ourselves in the mirror after biting a chunk out of someone's face - whatever the answer, this is a warrior's art and none of the talk re 'sport Kali' changes that for me. Respect.

All of them just means FMA/Filipino Martial Arts. Kali is what is known internationally. Arnis de Mano/Arnis is what it's called in Tagalog or for most Tagalogs. Eskrima is what it's called in Visayas and Mindanao. Some even call it Balintawak which is where the art originated or believed to have originated.

Pang high level Kalista Kasi yung hand-to-hand. Meron Naman tayong pangontra sa BJJ, Dumog kung tawagin. all kali came from borneo,the ten datu and from srivijaya empire,where did borneo get it from ,java,where did java get it from ,sumatra,where did sumatra get it from ,india,india mixed it with greek and persian,filipinos use stick a lot,originally fron indian silambam,the word guro comes from indian word guru meaning teacher
@krishyyfan51536 жыл бұрын
Guro is also a Filipino word which means Teacher.... The Borneo Style is limited to Swords and Shields....Filipino style made the Art modern and more sophisticated because of the stick techniques which would include locks, pushing, scratching, trapping etc. which you can't do in swords and shields....Added to that is the ability to use improvised weapons because the stick can represent a broom, umbrella, book, bottle, frying pan ETC...That is why Filipino style is more appropriate for modern urban environment...
@TheSilatiger6 жыл бұрын
all of the above you mention is found in silat
@krishyyfan51536 жыл бұрын
yes, but it is not as sophisticated as Filipino style....the weapon system of Silat is still primitive compared to the stick and knife style of Filipinos...
@TheSilatiger6 жыл бұрын
nonsense,you obviously have little knowledge of silat,there is stick and knife ,including keris,parang -soft weapons,whip,spear and knuncle dusters,I have looked at a lot of kali and found they have no ground grappling system like harimau[tiger]has,all I see different is kali likes to do fancy stick movements that are a waste of time but looks good though not combative ,silati has over 200 systems and is more vast in tecnik than kali
@krishyyfan51536 жыл бұрын
LOL... Silat is not known for Weapons art...It's the domain of Filipinos and that is why it is the favorite weapons art of Armies around the World and Police around the world....Here is an example of Filipino Style...Tell me if Silat can do better than this...Notice the Reaction speed and Reflexes you develop when you train with weapons first.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/baqwm2Z8rtJ6bs0
