James was more than willing to show me court documents of all his court cases and prison time. As for his other claims, I’m certain his family would tell a different story. James passed away in his tent in December 2019 from complications from a stabbing. I spoke with James five times and each talk got deeper and more disturbing. I can’t possibly upload the last two because I think I’d lose my channel. RIP One month later... I didn’t realize anyone else found James as interesting as I did. I’ve uploaded a second video of James to the Soft White Underbelly subscription channel. I remember when I was sitting with James on these long talks that went into the night, that no one will ever want to hear this, but apparently I was wrong.

Autumn Marie Damn, Ms. Autumn, I so wish that was true. But I’ve worked with more than a few who were sexually abused and exploited by Mommy-Dearest from their earliest memories. I wish that was rare. It’s not. As they get older the shame is so overwhelming they retreat to booze and drugs because who are you gonna share this with? They ended up in my office because they were mandated and yeah, ya gotta work like hell on the relationship. But when they finally trust you, you have done what what it takes to connect with them as human beings, to do to deal with their hostility and shame, what comes out after is a child, broken by Mommy-Dearest. Does that make their crimes OK? OHHELLNO. “I don’t deserve to live” etc. they tell you. Most of mine were high risk suicide and some completed. Men are less likely than women to play out the typical scenario of “leading to a suicide” and more likely to complete due to no prior notice/behavior and the lethality of their methods-hanging, shooting, intentional OD. Help is available and ya can’t just take their drugs away all at once. A bit at a time and replace them with psychotropic meds a little at a time. Will they ever be OK or “safe?” No. Hell No. And they are the first to tell you that. And *yes, they are violent.* Much of the time they aren’t even living in the here and now-the reality you and I live. They are so far removed from and dissociated from the here and now they are in something like a Dream State where their behavior doesn’t seem or feel real. They know they don’t belong and they know they are alone and words fail to explain.... *And nothing excuses, mitigates or makes their behavior less than horrific.*

Here ye here ye! I agree. And it begs the question, what is he doing that instills such trust in these people to open up to him? Good old fashioned empathy and non-judmental reporting- that's what the world needs now. More than ever. And it is abuot time the world gets to see an uncensored (for the most part) raw, unbiased and un-"sob" story painted. Kudos to Mark and everyone with Soft White Underbelly. I would love to be involved because I truly think what you guys are doing is not just entertainment or sensationalism, gawking at the "freaks" like so many productions are today. It is clear that you genuinely care and have their best interests at heart. And blelive me, living on the streets and having to arm themselves just in case because of all the elements and strains of people that are out there - they are absolute experts at knowing if someone is using them or trying to exploit them. So, there willingness to open up to you and with the raw authentiity that they do not only shows the trust you vuild but it speaks volumes to your heart and end goal. I truly believe each one of the stories will move mountains to help so many people. I smell an Emmy. (Or Webby, as the case may be). Just truly great reporting from the heart. A rare thing to see these days.

James is clearly an example of being a victim of his own circumstance. And I’m sure his mother and sisters were victim of their own circumstances. It will go generation to generation unless they heal themselves. This type of trauma requires a lot of rehabilitation, money, drive, spirituality, and more. Not everyone will make it out and sometimes thats the journey. While the acts and crimes he has committed is atrocious and devastating, this video does a great job of showing us what happened to him that lead him here. Thank you Mark for exposing this.

As he said he was banished from his family and from society. Maybe before he “heals” society should be ready first because I ask anyone here “who is gonna give him a job?” For example, so I think everyone wishes him the best and want him to “cure by himself” but I wonder who would really help. I worked at a prison for many years and know what you mean. Most inmates are conmen in some fashion. A lot of them liked to hype up their charges for cred. Some lying altogether and trying to make themselves tougher that way. Some lie about their past to justify their actions. So when I see this, it is so hard for me to believe any of it. But that's just me and based off of my life experiences and what I saw in the prison. I had the ability to see their pretrial investigations and see whether they were lying or not. A lot were. I would only believe them about their pasts of it could be verified by someone other than them. This is still an interesting interview.

I am a child sexual abuse survivor. 3 years old, a family member. Extreme childhood trauma changes your brain. This is how sociopaths are made. You can't feel bad for the boy he once was but hate the man now because, that little boy is still in there, frozen in time, reliving the abuse over and over. That's what complex PTSD does to you. It creates "parts" of you that are frozen in time. They never grow up. They never heal and they never go away. Unless you find an extremely good trauma therapist and work for years to help manage the trauma.

I was abused as a young boy. But growing up hearing that abuse victims almost always become abusers is EXACTLY the reason I'm a 46 year old man who has no children. I certainly don't have any desire to impose such trauma on another human being or anything. Nothing like that, the way I see it is that you're supposed to protect your children 1000% at all times and there is nothing more sacred. Then it's my duty time my unborn children to protect them from the trauma that happened to me. And statistics show that over a lifetime, I somehow probably would. So that will NEVER happen. I love children, their ability to forgive is profound. I told everyone since I was 12 that I'd never have kids just not why and EVERYONE said "it's just a phase." Nope, ask my wife of 13 years, if there's ANYTHING I can do in this world, it's to commit to something. Nobody has any loyalty anymore.

His story isn't challenging or heavy, it's really, really common. There are people like James literally everywhere and I do feel compassion towards them AND their victims. His brain is affected by trauma and won't have developed beyond that young age, hence the excuses and poor reasoning. Why do some people end up like James and others don't? I don't know, there are lots of theories. But it's not my job to judge, it's my job to heal. If he hurt someone I knew though, I'd be pretty f#$&!+g angry all the same

As a recent viewer of Soft White Underbelly interviews, I am getting a sense what the channel is about. It is about hearing and acknowledging humanity, despite how ugly that can get. Some become so ugly that we avert our eyes and ears from them. Despite their appearance and behavior, they deserve a voice. Everyone, regardless of their past (good or bad) or their deeds (good or bad) have a story that is worth hearing. Though my past is nothing resembling James' past, I know what it is like to be hurt; I also know what it is like to hurt others. I would not want to be discarded by society. I'm sure ALL people that are interviewed don't remember everything accurately, and have a measure of self-protection or justification. (Don't we all?)

I believe that he actually was molested as a child. People that commit sex crimes are more likely to have been victims of sexual crimes themselves. He said that molesting and rape was how he was taught to express that you care for someone. If he was molested at a young age by people that are supposed to care for him, then in his mind it would make sense for him to reflect what he was taught to the one that taught him, his mother. I am a firm believer in rehabilitation for prisoners, but I truly think that this man is too far gone. There is no hope for him, and he knows that. The trauma that he experienced as a child is beyond therapy. He’s already decided what he wants to do. Thank you for letting him tell his story. Sometimes I forget that we are all human, and that everyone was a child and innocent once. He wasn’t born like this, but he made the decision to hurt others. I guess with my own biases I tend to ignore who people once were before they did horrible things. Now I realize that no matter how disgusted I am, I can still be symapthetic for that child that was scared and alone.

As much as I agree with the comments that this was a troubled, nasty human being, these conversations are absolutely necessary. We cannot confront these problems without attempting to understand the mechanisms that make someone like that. It is impossible to build something without understanding how the parts go together. By no means am I downplaying his monstrous acts, I just ask that everyone try to understand on some level why people are like this, how it happens, how society reacts to these actions, and things we can do to prevent these types of things in an ethical way. You'd be hardpressed to find many cases where someone was simply born a rapist, pedophile, etc. It's a vicious cycle that has claimed many as a victim and then they many times end up being the perpetrator. This doesn't mean they don't deserve to be in jail, but their problems need to be understood is all, so that they can be addressed.

Yes, I agree. People really undermine how ones environment has such a huge impact on ones development. It’s more common to follow what you were subjected to than not. While there are people who don’t continue the cycle, I find that ones background can explain a lot when they do. Of course there is no justification for harming others but humans are often a product of their environment. How can you have a healthy relationship to sex or women when your own mother was raping you from an early age. Super fucked up.

But I also have a master's degree in probation and know that he is dangerous. There's a huge difference between acknowledging your circumstances, acknowledging your trauma and using it as an excuse for not feeling remorse. He didn't once express remorse for what he did - not for the SA, not for the killing. Of course now that he already went down the path of violence he should be removed from society not to punish him(for the punish will not ammend the crimes he has done) but for merely preventing him from hurting other people and passing down the trauma he endured
