Excellent explore of a very extensive mine! The amount of trash dumped in there is much like some of the mines in Central City, CO; one long vein that surfaced and was mined out was filled to the top with trash except for one wood-cordoned opening that was difficult to get to (due to waste rock piled high). Tossed a rock down, and it travelled at least 80 feet down before hitting deep water! Lots of trash in the rest! Thanks for the tour!

It's crazy to think how tough they were. When I stop and take a break in a mine, I'll look around at the surrounding rock. the timbering, the rails and try to get a sense of the whole place. 09:37 that dude could have lost his arm by picking up that piece of dynamite. Over time humity makes the nitroglycerin to leak away from its stable form, even more dangerous cuz it was a piece cuted out of dynamite directly exposed to the enviroment for who knows how much time. The nitroglycerin can build up, and explode unexpectedly, its the most unstable and tricky explosive.

Road flares were made with anti-roll caps so they laid flat on the road.
@forgottenmininghistory4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! Even if it was dynamite it would be inert.
@001desertrat34 жыл бұрын
@wbbh -- That's only been within the last 30 years that they've used those anti-roll caps . Years ago when I worked in Emergency Services I've bought many dozens of cases of Highway Flares that just had the black cloth tape and the waxed paper cap over the striker end . Normally if you find a piece of something like that in a Mine , you should always assume that it is Dynamite . And YES , there were some Dynamites that had RED wrappers on them . Also , NEVER assume that just because the Dynamite is Old that it has lost it's potency as there were several brands of Non-Nitro Dynamite , one of the most common was Trojan Safety Powder . I've seen OLD Dynamite that was just as potent as the day it was made . -- < Doc , Miner for over 50 years > .
@o2wow4 жыл бұрын
@@forgottenmininghistory about forty years ago I worked at a site that had powder and cap magazines. There was some old boxes of dynamite that looked oil stained. The explosive liquid in the dynamite had leached out into the cardboard. I'll always remember the impressive explosion when the blasting foreman moved just the boxed out side and set them off with a blasting cap.

what it looks like, they were in the process of stripping the mine, because they were done with it and your properly right, at one time the skip car, was properly on the rails and hanging, but either the garbage people threw down or the wood gave up, made it hit the pit. normally the miners would either put it into a side drift or block the shaft with it

The fact that some people have no regard and just ditch so much trash because their lazy pieces of shit..just pisses me off.. I love exploring nature ..and finding peoples trash just irks me. I once went to a national park area where after hiking 4 hours to a hard to reach area I found a ton of trash. I went and got some friends and we hiked up there with garbage bags and ended up hauling out almost two full size pickup loads of trash. We were lucky that the local park rangers allowed us to utilize local dumpster sites to empty it all from my truck. It is simple..if you do not want to haul any of your trash out and away from a location..then don't bring it with you.
