Air Supply was one of those musical groups (duo) that the so-called "cool" guys would not admit to liking, but you'd see them singing it in the car when they didn't think anyone was looking.

Tip of the iceberg for Air Supply. Graham Russel (tall guitarist) and Russell Hitchcock (vocalist, red shirt) are incredible and deserve more accolades than they have received.

Air Supply lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock holding the final note for "16.2 seconds". This was the longest-held note for a male pop singer until 1983, when Sheriff lead vocalist Freddy Curci held the final note of "When I'm with You" for 19.4 seconds.

"When I'm with You" by Sheriff is another song BP would probably like. I remember I was up late babysitting for a neighbor to earn some spending money when that song hit number one on the charts. I clapped and shouted forgetting that I was babysitting young kids. Luckily, I didn't wake them. 😆

As a teenager throughout the 70's, men were clearly more romantic. Expressing feelings came easy. We spent time talking, having adventures, experiencing life - no phones, no internet. It made a difference. All communications in relationships were Face to face - no texting. I think that's why 70's balads are just a step above the rest.

@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Ай бұрын
@@ruthlafler5622 It was done quite often, and was one reason why records could be expensive to produce. Hearthrobs like Frankie Avalon owe their careers to it. AutoTune has reduced the number of takes needed, and has simply become standard practice. I have a friend with a daughter majoring in voice performance at Berklee. I've worked with her; she has no issues with pitch, yet she still has to practice recording with AutoTune in production lab, because if she wants professional work, she will have to expect it as part of the process. She won't need it, but it will be there anyway.

@@ruthlafler5622 If a video appears on an official label channel, like this one, it has likely been pitch-corrected (again) in the last few years. CD reissues are subject to the same revision at the discretion of the suits.

Hey BP, yes that is his real voice, no auto tune, Russell Hitchcock is a natural tenor. Air Supply is an Aussie duo and they honed their harmonies when playing in small pubs in Melbourne, and they formed in 1975. I saw them in 2016, in a cosy theatre here in Brisbane QLD, and they still sounded so great. One of my favourite Aussie duo’s, great reaction BP💕💕

Being that I was a teenager, back in the 70’s and early 80’ music expressed true feelings and were used to say what a person couldn’t. I have a number of cassette tapes made for me that I still have today by my husband of 40 years and they always bring back the feelings and sweet memories. We were so blessed back then and that music can be enjoyed by others for lifetimes to come.

Goinfg to dances were you danced and even sang to the music of Air supply, Ice House INX, Cold Chisel, Mondo Rock etc. Great Aussie bands. Couldn't do that today without people thinking there was artirial motives. If we had music from those decades, I think the world be a better place of love and understanding.

I was ten when the wreck happened. Grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Shorewood, Wisconsin. The event itself was a formative memory. The song became a huge top 40 hit. I grew up haunted by this song. Fast forward to teaching 4th Grade in the inner city of Milwaukee. I taught the history of the State of Wisconsin. Once we got past glaciers, I did a study of the Great Lakes Water Highway as it was the path on which traders, missionaries and explorers took that led to settling the area known as the midwest. As part of the Water Highway, we also studied Great Lakes ship wrecks. Every year, on November 10th, I taught this song. We read the old Milwaukee Journal articles on the event, followed by reading the lyrics, before ever playing the song. Once I played the video (the one that highlights pictures of the ship, the crew and the bell), you could hear a pin drop in the classroom. Inner-city 10 year olds sat in silence and reverence for the story, the power of the Great Lakes and the men whose lives were lost. Kids cried. Many went home, told their parents about the song, came back and asked to hear it the next day. A testament to the power of music, the power of folk music in our history. Music transcends culture.

Air Supply was the band that everyone listened to from 1981-1983 while I was in Middle School, most of the music continued until I graduated from High School in 1986. The band has enjoyed a nice retirement, they now reside in the Las Vegas/Summerland area.

I did see Air Supply twice in the 80's....once was memorable when Russell Hitchcock was walking along the front of the stage and fell off breaking his arm.
