You listen to the music we grew up listening to,fell in love with, and sometimes perhaps got through many rough days listening to...and EVERY SINGLE TIME you listen to it,you are blown away by the vocals, the instrumentals, lyrics, you embody the whole experience and give us old timers a jog back to our youth, but you also show SO MUCH appreciation for what our music was, what it meant to us,you understand the beauty behind each and every song,be it pop, rock, ballads, south rock,country...and for that,I feel like I MIGHT could speak for all/some of your listeners when I say yet again...THANK YOU for bringing back memories, while also bringing our music to life for other generations to experience...

in 1976 there was a very real yet subconscious fear that "Rock music" was in its last days. Disco was everywhere and all of the well known rock bands were... lets face it, not kids any more. You have to realize, gray haired rockers didnt exist yet and there was a real feeling that maybe after being a great run the fun was over... Now I'm not hear to say Boston fixed all that, but when this album hit the shelves it sold some ridiculous number of records (17M+?) for a band no one had ever heard of, and a style of Rock no one had ever heard. It jolted the rock world and gave it the oxygen it desperately needed. Rockers everywhere owe a debt of gratitude to this album. And if you read the story behind it and the band it makes the story even more miraculous. 48 years on and it still gives me chills, one of those songs that when it comes on the radio to this day, my lady and I both reach for the volume knob to CRANK IT UP 🤪

Tom Scholz is the founder, main songwriter, primary guitarist, keyboardist of the rock band Boston. Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early 1970s. A fan of rock music throughout his teen years, Scholz began writing songs while earning his master's degree at MIT. The first Boston album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, primarily using devices he invented. After the success of Boston, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market his inventions, many under the Rockman brand. Scholz holds several patents related to his work at SR&D over the years. All this as well as being a very good musician and creative song writer. He was described by AllMusic as an "un-rock n' roll" figure who did not enjoy the limelight of being a performer, preferring to concentrate on music, production, and inventing new electronic equipment. When he recorded this, he was working at Polaroid Corporation as a senior product design engineer. Scholz had a keen interest in music and began recording demos in his home studio while working at Polaroid. He spent six years unsuccessfully submitting demos to record companies. Eventually the demos attracted the interest of Epic Records, who signed Scholz and singer Brad Delp to a recording contract. Scholz believed his demos were good enough for release as Boston's debut album, but Epic told Scholz to re-record the demos. Most of the guitar, bass, and keyboards were performed by Scholz, although other players were involved sporadically throughout the recordings, most notably drummer Jim Masdea. Epic did not want the album recorded entirely in Scholz's home as Scholz had intended (the label suggested using a recording studio), but most of what ended up on the album had indeed been recorded by Scholz in his basement.

I saw them once in Norfolk, VA. Had a head on collision on the way there. Walked the rest of the way. Went to the hospital afterwards for stitches. 🤘🏼💨

The spaceships are actually upside down guitars. If you look down the ship, you'll see the neck of the guitar. GREAT SONG!

It is incredible that Boston's debut album was such a force and still considered one of the greatest debut albums ever released. The album is incredible from start to finish. The band is as talented as they come. Music was so incredible back then. Whole albums were great, not just one-off songs that were throw away like they are today. Bands had to be talented, had to play well live and had to perform live all of the time in support of their music. Concert tickets were cheap and albums were like gold. We looked at the covers for hours sitting on the floor, reading the liner notes and lyrics listening to the entire album, maybe even smoking a joint while we were at (wink). You got it, Foreplay is basically the build up introduction at the beginning before the song. The spaceships are actually guitars.

Up until this point, we had NEVER heard anything like this song, and their entire debut album! It was a mind blowing, eye opening experience to music and what was to come!

The ships are actually upside down guitars, though with only 4 strings they would be bass guitars. Album art was one of the greatest things about records that got lost when ported to CDs because they are so small. I'm 70+ years old & spent so much time listening to albums while checking out the artwork, recreational drugs may have been involved, beer, wine & spirits certainly were.

We were so lucky to have great music and bands from the late 50s. 60s and 70s. It made life fun.

In the 70's we totally took it for granted because there was so much great music. Channels like yours allow us to hear these songs through new ears and really listen and appreciate the sound track of our high school years.

I’m so fortunate to have heard masterpieces like this one when they were first recorded. The 70s had the best music.

he made all of his Demos in his basement, played all of the insturments and sang every word. Look up the documentry, even when he got signed, he still made the first album in his basement.

@jamiescarry460 Tom does not sing a note on this record and the record is far better off for this fact. All vocals including back up vocals are Brad. In addition, besides Tom there are 5 other musicians who play instrument tracks on this record

When you were describing the Artwork...I was waiting. Will He See It? Nope! LoL!! So the "Ships" that the "Cities" are sitting atop are Guitars!! Look just to the left of that "R" and you can see the neck and headstock, is it a 4 string Bass with a 3-1 head or a 6 string headstock?? So many things about that Album cover were just so Amazing!! Boston was my favorite group from when I first heard them in 1978 until 2013!! They will always be one of the Best Bands I Know!! Oh, Babymetal is my current #1...Sorry Boston, but I still Love you guys!! As to the impact Boston had on Rock Music back in the day...This Album became the #1 most sold Debut Album (9yrs) until the G&R debut and is still #8 of all time. But through the 80's and 90's, and even into the 2000's, there was not a single Rock Radio Station in the US that did not have Boston in Rotation...especially during their Drive Time/Rush Hour lineups!! They were the 'Go To' sound of a generation! Thanks for the Reaction!!

It amazes me how many people completely miss the guitar spaceships. This was the very first album I bought with my own money in 76 when I was 11...the guitar spaceships were the first thing I noticed.

I’m embarrassed to say that although I was there when this came out in 1976 and saw the album in everyone’s house, I never ever realized they were guitars until i read a comment on another reaction video. I was stunned, then laughed so hard at how I could have missed that! Then asks a couple of my old friends from those days “did you realize they were guitars???” I wasn’t the only one. 😂

I was a teen when this came out...I'm almost 70 today but when listening to this song, I always thought the climax comes at 10:55 into the song and the ensuing guitar is the feeling afterwards. Best debut album ever! Thanks for your reaction. Take care and be well. Peace.

This was one of the albums we all had in our collections. Along with several others in no particular order, Fleetwood Mac "Rumors", Beatles "Abbey Road", Meatloaf "Bat out of Hell", Beach Boys "Endless Summer", Bowie "Changes One", Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon", Queen "Night at the Opera", to name just a few, there were many more.
