This is the slowed down, acoustic version... you should check out his original version. He wrote this about Patty Boyd, who was married to George Harrison at the time. She later left Harrison for Clapton... but she wasn't treated any better and they would also divorce. Patty has probably had more songs written about her than any other woman. 💙

I believe Layla is a woman named Patty Harrison, the wife of George Harrison. Patty left George, who wrote several beautiful songs about her while still with the Beatles. Patty married Clapton, but his chronic heroine abuse and other private issues ended their marriage. Eric got straight and helped many other addicts throughout his life. His beautiful tribute to his baby son, who died in a terrible accident, is a fantastic piece of music. It's called Tears in Heaven. Peace

How about his tribute to other people’s children by being so militantly anti-COVID vaccine? Maybe some parents will listen to his medical advice (he is an art school dropout after all), lose their child to COVID (still circulating) and get inspired to write the next ‘Tears in Heaven.’

You owe it to yourself to go back and listen to the original. This version is cool but it's an old man telling a story from long ago. The original is a young man still burning from being in love with his best friend's wife (and has the great Duane Allman playing). Just look up Derek and the Dominoes - Layla. You really have to check out the studio version of "Layla" and maybe also "Bell Bottom blues" from the album "Layla and other associated love songs" by "Derek and the Dominos" 13:22 (Clapton's band name from the late 60s/early 70s). Heck, check out the whole album. It's all great blues rock. The studio version of Layla is pure rock and clearly accentuates his painful yearning for his friend George Harrison's then wife, Patti. Clapton went acoustic and more mellow with the song Layla, as he got older. 🙂

This song was inspired by his wife and model Patti Boyd, who he also wrote Wonderful Tonight and Bell Bottom Blues about. Patti was previously married to George Harrison of the Beattles, who was also one of Eric's best friends. Yes there was a big scandal. She also inspired several songs that Harrison wrote.
@curtislong6806Ай бұрын
Jenny Boyd, Patty's sister also had several songs written about her. Donovan wrote Jennifer Juniper about her after she overdosed and almost died in the bathroom. She was married to Mick Fleetwood.

Eric Clapton was huge in the career of the Bee Gees. They had experienced quite a long dry spell and Eric suggested they go to Florida and record at the Criteria Studio and in 1970 they did just that and the magic happened. Jive Talkin, Nights On Broadway, Fanny Be Tender With My Love and so many more great songs were born. I'm forever grateful.

Between this version and his earlier versions are like 2 total different songs. To me he reinvented his own song. I really like his different versions. In Patty Boyde's book, when she was with Clapton, he was so messed up with drugs and alcohol that he should have made it. We would have lost out on so much music if hadn't gotten clean and sober!
@bethscott4330Ай бұрын
I wonder, would Eric Clapton ever play live any song the same way twice? He seems so organic when he plays…it’s like a reflection of his talent, his age, his mood maybe where he’s playing or what time of the day it is? 😂
@paulwood5803Ай бұрын
I had the great joy and honour to see Eric play live for the first time (I'm 68, he is a huge part of my musical life) just over a week ago. It was like listening to a Rolls Royce instead of a Skoda. Genius. Best ever? There are many possible candidates for that accolade. However what we can confidently say is that when Eric played with Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, you would never ever hear anything better, because 3 better guitarists don't exist and have never existed.
@user-mo6tz6oh9iАй бұрын
His fast version of this song was a big hit before he came out with this short version. I like them both very much. The story behind it is sad to me. Patti Harrison, George’s wife, left George for his good friend, Eric. Things didn’t work out her Patti and Eric either. But George and Eric remained friends.

I love Eric Clapton, and yes this is his song. The original was not laid back and jazzy, but a screaming guitar rock song. My favorite song of Eric Clapton's is, Bell Bottom Blues, which is from back when He was Deric and the Dominos as was Layla. Bell Bottom Blues was about the same woman. Layla was a girlfriend who was passed back and forth between Eric Clapton and one of the Beatles, I forget who. Here is one you should definitely take in. Eric Clapton is 79 years old now and was in his first band at the age of 17. He started out amazing and has only aged like wine. Maybe because he doesn't still have long hair and has to strut across the stage, but he can carry this into the present and is still worth giving your attention to.

This is Eric doing an acoustic version of Layla which he did in 1970. This is a different acoustic version then did in 1993. The difference between sampling and doing a cover is that sampling is usually uncredited, whereas if you do a cover, the people who wrote the music and lyrics are fully credited with having done so. The lack of credit given is why people dislike sampling, not the sampling itself.

Layla's a very strong memory of mine, leaving school late after my guitar lesson, a mate called me into the main hall where he'd been setting everything up for the 6th form Christmas disco later that night. He asked me to sit on a chair in the middle of the massive space and check out the sound system. What song is it? I asked, Oh, a new Clapton one. Calling himself Dereck and the Dominoes, but it's Clapton really. Two seconds later and that famous riff is blasting out sooo loud. What a literally unforgettable experience.

The Album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs was written to win the love of his best friend’s wife away from her husband. It is one of the most emotionally fueled collections of songs ever. Clapton turned 79 at the end of March. This is the thrd version of Layla I have heard. The original, hard, hard rock. Then in 1992 there was an almost elevator music ballad that he created. This one fits neatly in between... a pop rock ballad with attitude. Clapton is one of the original guitar heroes, having appeared with a handful of bands in the 60's and 70's before striking out on his own.
