@@fredriknilsson6042 because people that play at an intermediate or higher level have a realistic understanding of what is actually really difficult or original from a technical standpoint. If you don't play, there is a ton of music that sounds really impressive that isn't, and a ton that sounds really easy that isn't. None of Slash's songs are that hard, relative to his peers. He also didn't do very much outside the box of what had already been done. Your comment made me genuinely curious which modern guitar players were influenced by him. I did a Google search and couldn't find any. (I'd actually like to know)🤓 Where I think he's underrated, is in his ability to write commercially successful riffs and solos. A lot of players tend to undervalue that skill and focus solely on the technical ability, despite the fact that they can't write like that. Although very different and way more original, David Gilmore and Kurt Cobain get the same criticism. Most of Kurts riffs are so easy to play it's beginner level, but try to write that many instantly memorable and identifiable songs. There are few that have. In terms of Rock Star image, Slash might be the goat. It's Angus for me, but they're neck and neck in my opinion.

This video trilogy is based on the short story Without You (worth reading if you get a chance). The story is about a rockstar who cheats on his girlfriend. She forgives him and they get married. She is never able to get over the betrayal and ends up committing suicide by shooting herself in the head. He then goes on to rebuild his life as a better person. It's been a long time since I've read it, but that's pretty much the storyline. Great reaction!! 😊

I watched the original videos when it came out on mtv. The original video, got some shootings scenes mafia type shit, that's why u saw the people panicking n some guy jumps on the cake table. Chaos. I know it was based on the short story,but the video got shooting scenes. It was edited out maybe because the rise of mass shootings. This song/video was Axl Rose’s masterpiece. Axl has always been a diva and perfectionist in regards to his art/music. My belief is that his pursuit of the level of perfection found in this song is what delayed Chinese Democracy and ultimately led to the collapse of the band. They're all over the place. It just isn't dished out to us over MTV anymore and we have to do a little hunting. Them Crooked Vultures, GHOST, Gojira, etc. Just nothing as "universal" as it used to be, because there's so much of everything out there these days and we're all fragmented into our pockets. Same reason we all could gather around the water cooler and talk about the latest episode of Dallas the next morning or in the 00's, gather around and talk about Lost the next morning. But today, there's so much good content out there -- and on top of that, we can consume at our own pace and when it fits into our lives -- that there's no longer that zeitgeist. Half of people may not even get around to watching the thing you love today, for another decade.

Back in the day, when the video Estranged was made, it was THE MOST EXPENSIVE video ever. It was like $1 million just to make it with all the technology and all. Back then, the video was really just so ground breaking and amazing to watch. I’d have to say of the 3, it’s my favorite song. Again, all 3 songs are just AWESOME! And YES 🙌🏽 they played these songs on the radio. There are some long songs they always play on the radio, like Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, Lynard Skynard’s Free Bird, etc. Definitely check out the other 2 songs. There’s sooo many GNR songs- You Could be mine, Sweet Child O Mine, Civil War, I used to love her, etc. Actually, their album Appetite for Destruction is probably one of the best album. He knows he's a toxic trainwreck who's out of control. He fears exposing a respectable lady to his chaotic lifestyle. That's why it doesn't show what killed her. It's still a dream, remember? You turn around one second later and something catastrophic has happened. Things are rarely explained in dreams. You just have to go with it. All that really matters here is that Axl is convinced he will be her ruin no matter what. His ultimate moment of happiness (marriage) can only be the beginning of her end because she's hitching herself to him, and his endless insanity. It's his ultimate fear come to fruition.

I watch this video all the time. I was part of that whole Sunset Strip back in the late 80's, early 90's. Slash lived up the street from me on Kirkwood in Laurel Canyon (IYKYK 😉) once they hit. I got the privilege and honor to meet Slash over 10 years ago at the Kentucky Derby. Slash is an amazing person and loves talking to military members. Slash actually does wear his signature top hat in public...you cannot miss seeing him walking through a crowd

Since we're talking about hits you've heard of from Guns 'n Roses, there were 7, MAJOR, amazing albums that came out within 44 days of each other in 1991: Metallica, Metallica (the whole d*mn thing is worth a listen) Pearl Jam, Ten (again... the whole album is worth a listen) Guns N’ Roses, Use Your Illusion I (Live and Let Die / November Rain) Guns N’ Roses, Use Your Illusion II (Knockin' on Heaven's Door / Civil War / You Could Be Mine from Terminator 2... so many more) Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (Give it Away / Suck My Kiss / Under the Bridge... great album) Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger (the whole album is amazing... the top track is probably Outshined) Nirvana, Nevermind (need I say anything?) It was a great time to be alive for music.

I remember blasting this nearly everyday whenever MTV would show this video, and joining in with an air guitar during Slash’s EPIC solo! 😅 The song came out in the second half of my 6th grade year. (February 1992) Still a favorite! ❤

I played this song on piano. It has a very classical sound to it. It has lots of ornamental notes. This song is very different from every other song. Very unique, written by lead singer Axl Rose. Absolutely incredible song, I am a keyboardist if you didn't know. This song has a lot of detail in it, lots of changes. One of my favourites.

💔 6 1/2 years ago, I lost my older sister Teresa. I drove from Florida to Kentucky. The day we had to let her go (life support) it was a November day, just before Thanksgiving. Bitter cold, snow, rain. Afterward, we all went back to my nephew's house. I went out to his garage to have a cigarette by myself. I turn on his radio, and THIS song was on. I saw them in concert at BC Place in Vancouver, and yes the orchestra was with them as well as the same conductor… it was incredible - there were guys in the audience that were crying. i’ve seen many bands over my 58 years - the best ever live is Guns and Roses, U2, AC/DC, RUSH… as well as a handful of others. There will NEVER be this kind of talent again… EVER - the 70s/80s/90s bands… the crap that comes out nowadays will never match the talent from those years… I was very blessed to have grown up though those years… music from those decades will be forever timeless ❤️🎶

The trilogy in order is "Don't Cry" , "November Rain" and "Estranged". Knocking On Heaven's Door is a cover of a Bob Dylan song and is not part of the trilogy.

Guns & Roses 🌹 was the biggest Rock band when this song came out. This video was in heavy rotation on MTV & radio in spite of the length. I think it was the 1 st really rock opera since Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody when it came out. I don't think radio would play a song this long these days but this song is still epic. Oh & you were right that 💋 was very much real. Axel was dating the then top Victoria Secret model Stephanie Seymour which just added to the over the top epic feel of the video for me.

I am only one year into Metal Music ( thank you Dan Vasc!). It has been so much fun stepping into a whole knew musical genre. I never listened to G & Roses when they were popular. This song kind of confused me too. Kind of gives cold, rainy days an ominous feeling!! The only thing I can imagine is that they were equating "Cold November Rain" to our eventual demise. I do have a comment about him wearing a cross. I am slowing finding that many Heavy Metal Singers started out singing in church growing up. Dan Vasc and his brother Ravi and Dan's best friend Gabriel, all sang in church together. Then Metal Christian Bands became popular. These 3 started a rock band when young but switched to Metal. They are all proud to be Christians.

I remember when _Welcome To The Jungle_ world premiered on *MTV's Headbanger's Ball.* After it was over I looked at my buddy and asked "What did we just watch?" He said "A band that is going nowhere." Then the next video was *Faster Pussycat* - _(Got Your Number on the) Bathroom Wall._ After that one was over, he said "Now there is a band that is going somewhere." Holy wow was he 180° wrong. There was a short lived super rock band, kinda like NWA called Velvet Revolver, Slash and Scott Weiland put it together after GnR broke up... amazing!!!

At the time this was made, it not only was the LONGEST music video in history, but the MOST EXPENSIVE!!! They built that chapel where Slash does the guitar solos (In NM, from the movie, “Silverado,” and was $150k alone.), the helicopters for him, the orchestra, Axl’s clothes (velvet jackets), the wedding, including Stephanie’s dress… all came to over $1.5M at THAT time. It was pretty impressive. The song only made it to #3 on the charts, though its music video history is significantly more impressive.
