Between 1992 and 2003 Pavarotti held benefit concerts for charity called Pavarotti and friends in his home town of Modena in Italy. This particular concert was for Angolan refugees and it was held on the 28th May 2002.

You can clearly see how ill LP is, and yet, he soldiers on. Not to mention, James is no spring chicken himself and just knocks it out of the park! What an amazing performance by two legends. (Verse 1)Translated From Italian, Luciano sings: Man chases power but he doesn't know it May the Great One limit himself to being as he will appear. You have to watch "Barcellona" sung by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe!
@jackwhitbread4583
@jackwhitbread4583 2 ай бұрын
Which would never have happened without Pavarotti, the only reason Freddie ever became aware of Caballe was because he was friends with Luciano and went to an opera he was in one night. Pavarottis leading lady that night was Montserrat Caballe and he became infatuated by her voice. You have Pavarotti to thank for that particular duet.

So glad you got to this one. Two fabulous singers from two completely different genres and it works so well. And who cares what the words mean that Luciano is singing. I'm not an opera fan but I could listen to him all day; his voice is just that exquisite. I especially like this version of the song with James Brown just singing from the heart without any stage distractions.

I have always loved classical music (I play violin) and acquired the taste for some opera as I grew up. Pavarotti was/is one of my favorites… if you want to be blown away by his singing… with a song that you might recognize because I’ve seen it in commercials and in mob movies, check out Vesti La Giubba from the opera Pagliacci.

This was a few years before Pavarottis cancer, the reason hes sitting is for a severe back injury. Also his father and mentor Fernando Pavarotti died 2 days prior and Luciano was deep in grief. He did not cancel this show because this was a part of an annual benefit concert that Luciano held in his efforts to raise money for refugees of war torn countries. The audience is there for Luciano primarily as these were his concerts, these concerts were entitled Pavarotti and friends and he duetted with dozens and dozens of the worlds biggest pop stars. To this day no other entertainer has raised more money for charity through benefit concerts and volunteer work, Pavarotti used his platform to make the world a better place and he deserves every bit of credit for doing so.

Division of people into one group (based on whatever criteria of exclusivity) vs another is something people choose. Doesn't have to be that way, yet people do keep choosing to do it. There are tons of examples of people coming together, particularly in times of crisis, which is such an amazingly beautiful thing to witness and/or experience. Maybe it's all just nature's way of keeping the balance. Nice find!
