I'm not the biggest fan of kid rock but I went to a show 10 years ago. Tickets were 20 dollars, t shirts 20 dollars and 5 dollar beers. I have to say it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I remember HBO and maybe TNT running Smokey and the Bandit fairly often. As mentioned below, we watched Dukes of Hazard too. Now, I specify Millennials because that is who was coming of age when Kid Rock broke out and became popular. I can't speak for Black Pegasus though, seems odd to me that these recent videos are his first listen of Kid Rock, 25 - 30 years after the fact. that seems crazy to me.

Kid Rock did the rap/rock/country fusion extremely well. It arguably made his music the most definitively American music you could possibly make, since it combined three very different genres of music created in America. The guys trying to do country rap today apparently have no clue why we all loved the Kid and do it so horribly wrong.

@seangillooley7042 First, The Devil Went Down to Georgia isn't his only song nor his only successful song. Second, I never said Charlie Daniels' music was rap, but that it "opened the door" for later country rap artists. Third, what, exactly, do you think rap is? It's vocalizing and often rhyming the lyrics to the rhythm and flow of the music, without particularly singing. That's precisely what Charlie Daniels does. Maybe you can't detect or keep up with the rhythm, but it's there.

I'm pretty sure Kid Rock was the first artist to do this genre, and it was so controversial. People loved or hated him, but even the people who hated this music or him as an artist ended up either loving or at the least respecting him and this music. I was one of the people who couldn't stand him or his music when he first came out, but then realized it was phenomenal.

In reference to Kid saying "pigs" you have to remember that this song was in a different time. There has always been good and bad cops - applies any profession really, but I think that as Kid got older he changed so his views changed. He kept his wild but became "controversial" because now he doesn't say things "to be cool" he speaks what he believes...often simply common sense

While Kid Rock always threw in a slow song in his albums as a classic ballad for the radios and whatnot, he didn't actually go full-blown country until his BORN FREE album in 2010. This particular song was from his DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE album in 1998, which was also acted as the big debut for one Marshall Matthers (Eminem) who did his first feature in a song called "F*CK OFF". While this WAS NOT his first album, that particular honor being called GRIT SANDWICHES FOR BREAKFAST almost a decade prior to this, this album was the first of three that became his best-selling albums of all time.

One of the things I appreciate about Kid Rock is that despite his fame and achievements in life, he moved back to his home town and lives his life there He didn't just buy a home there that he is never at to say he came home - he is here. The music movement you are recognizing with Big and Rich, Cowboy Troy, Kid Rock, and Gretchen Wilson is called the Music Mafia. It occurred as a subset of Country and, as you recognized, has its roots in the Outlaw Country movement with the likes Charlie Daniels Band and Hank Williams Jr. Brantley Gilbert, though not in the Music Mafia itself, was also an outgrowth of the movement.

Currently has a White House replica in Nashville area but was recently reported looking at property in Florence Alabama.

@@DianneLetson-j6s I hadn't heard he had moved permanently. He is still around town a lot. I guess he might be setting up for a Nugent and getting ready to retire further south.

I don't care how old I get, if I'm on my death bed, when that beat drops & goes crazy-- I'm head-banging!! "Not straight outa Compton, I'm straight out tha trailer!" 🤘🏻🤘🏻

I always giggle about all of us being in nursing homes having grown up with all this amazing headbanging music. It’ll be an interesting scene and good tunes during the wheelchair races🎉

Have a friend that was his pilot a few times. He said he was one of his favorite celebrities to work for. He treated everyone like an actual person no matter who they were.
