Just came here to say the same thing! And I see several others said this after you as well. There’s a few one-on-one videos/interviews w Corey (and the other members as well) that will give you more insight into their lyrics and the band as a whole. Maybe those could be a reaction video as well. The Wiki fact or fiction ones are good, and the history of are good as well.

For me its like someone who was left to die, but didn't, so he grew into the hate and despise. But now it feels like he overgrown it, became more than just a monster, an orphan, and became such a symbol for thouse who crossed the same path. Its about share deep feelings, dark pasts and shits that destroys inside. For me its about open up a armor and let it all go.

Slipknot’s albums have always been a progression. An evolution from a very rough time for everyone in the band to where they are now. The masks have changed just as the lyrics and meanings have changed. To reflect where they are in life at the time. You remember in the new song Unsainted “I’m finally holding on to letting go”? Corey is very happy in life right now. I believe he’s coming to terms with a lot of things in life. Letting go. Talking about shit that he’s never shared but not in a very upfront manner. Sure everyone knows about the dumpster story with Corey. But as for the rest of what he’s saying? Music is a reflection of emotion. We don’t really need to know what everything he says means from front to back. Take it in a way and relate it to your own life if you can and you’ll feel it.

What I interpret from this song is the feeling of being alone and how silenced that can make you feel. That's what I get from it anyway. Corey was going through a pretty gnarly divorce at the time of them writing this album so I think that plays into it but Corey has also stated that growing up, he felt like an orphan with a big family because his father was absent and his mom wasn't really stable so he was bounced around a lot. So it my have some reference to that. Also as many have said, the line about "There's still a part of me that's dying in a dumpster!" Is a reference to an actual event from his teenage years. He was at a party and overdosed and his "friends" thought he was dead so they threw his body in a dumpster and left him. Luckily he survived and afterwards started trying to get himself together.

It took me a few full re-listens of the album to pick up on everything. Specifically the song "My Pain" which comes right after this song in the album lineup was one I had to listen to a few times to fully appreciate and understand.

The line "There's still a part of me that’s dying in a dumpster" is very interesting, since Corey as a teenager once overdosed on drugs and was then thrown into a dumpster by his friends, as they thought he was dead. I would assume that means the song is about being alone, hence the name "Orphan" and him being too troubled and in pain to change something about it, given how he's portraying himself in these lyrics as this sort of "menace" almost?
@XombieX3 жыл бұрын
"There's still a part of me that's dying in a dumpster" is a line referring to his pre-slipknot days where he overdosed and his friends thought he was dead so they put his body in a dumpster and he woke up the next morning 😂 to what you were saying, I would say it'd be a good idea to look up a brief summary for each song before reacting. Some times there's interviews for them too.

The song is referring to the fact that the maggots are outcasts and orphans of society but through each other we band together as a family, but even still thats a hard life. If you really want a look into a lot of the past with the music Corey writes I would recommend reading two of his books, Seven Deadly Sins and You're Making Me Hate You, it gives you a huge insight to his life leading up to Slipknot and a lot of the stuff the band went through as well.

The dumpster part he mentions is a reference to when he overdosed on drugs and his "friends" threw him in a dumpster instead of helping him probably because the people there did not want to get found by the police because they were doing drugs and some of the other references are about his abusive x wife and the to white to be black to black to be blue is also saying how she abused him.

I don’t have any evidence of this but I wonder if the “everyone has something, someone here has everything” part has to do with the divorce he was going through at the time of recording. Everyone has mentioned he didn’t have relationships with his mom and dad. His grandma raised him and she had passed. I am pretty sure that he was super close to his wife’s family. I wonder if that line had something to do with losing her family along with his due to divorce. Just a thought 🖤
