Most all top guitarist of the world praised him as being one of the best. This coming from the guys he studied as a kid, Eric Clapton, BB King ,Jeff Beck. As a teen he would hang out at the kuke joints and watch and learn from the bleus greats...He just got on stage with Albert King once ,as a teen, and asked if could play with the band. They were blown away at his abilitiy as how young he was. He died in a copter crash after one of his concerts with some of Claptons crew members. He was hugely influenced by Hendrix whose song this is" Voodoo Child"...made it his own with elements of Jimi of course...one of his best live performances in my opinion...RIP

So every time you think you hear a rhythm guitar backing Stevie, it was the bass player hitting the higher range, then dropping back to the low notes for bass. Awesome trio of musicians. We used to visit an authentic blues bar in the Mississippi Delta, when living in Memphis.If was literally a 60 year old shack with amazing food and blues. Yes, Mabel played the piano on Thursday nights (for those that understand the reference.) One Thursday night, only about 12 people were there. It only held about 30, ( long before casinos ruined the place.) About six were with me when Stevie Ray Vaughan and Billy Gibbons wandered in. SRV had a concert in Jackson MS the next night and ZZ Top in Little Rock, so appropriate quiet place to meet. Miss Mabel waited until they had eaten and visited, when she requested they join her. They went to their vehicles and retrieved guitars and treated us to 2 hours of magic of watching masters play out of pure joy and thrilling a bar blues pianist in her 80's. God I miss the old Hollywood Cafe. The new one lacks a soul.

Stevie sadly passed in a helicopter crash just 7 years into his mainstream career. He is usually always in the top 10 guitarist conversation.which is extremely impressive for such a short career. He was a once in a lifetime guitarist and overall, a kind soul. He used to play upwards of 16 hours a day, and superglue is fingers back together when they started bleeding! He also played some of the heaviest guitar strings available, which isn't that crazy to a non guitarist, but to a guitarist, it is absolutely incredible the way he bent them. And, the craziest of all from a guitarist standpoint is that he knew hardly any music theory... The solos you heard coming from the guitar were different every time and entirely made up on the spot every time without any music theory to guide him. He is very impressive to a non guitarist, but to a guitarist, it almost makes no damn sense how he was so good. Guitarists have always tried to replicate Stevie's playing ever since he popped out of the Texas blues scene, and no one, and I mean NO ONE, has ever replicated his playing. There is something in his fingers that only a very few amount of humans have ever had, and whatever it is, it is not an aquired skill you're born with it. If Stevie had not sadly passed so early into his career... Everyone would know the name Stevie Ray Vaughan..... Next reaction has to be "Texas Flood" it is by far his most impressive performance.

I'm 49, and I'll never forget the day we lost Stevie Ray Vaughn to that crash. I was only 16 and absolutely gutted because it was his solo on David Bowie's "Let's Dance" that introduced us to this talent, and he single handedly brought the Blues back to the mainstream. Every blues artist -- every single one -- saw a surge in record sales after Stevie blew up. His rising tide lifted everybody's boat and as much as people flocked to him, they also flocked to JJ Cale, BB King, Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson. The dude was just pure fire, and we lost him a year before we lost Freddie Mercury of Queen. And most people don't know this but Stevie played with the heaviest guage strings all his life and suffered from it. His finger strength is sick and he bend those strings like nothing. He's unparalleled. ❤

Stevie opened up for Robert Plant back around 1989 at the Philly Spectrum. It was the greatest show I've ever seen. Stevie opened with his new hit, "The House is Rockin'". He finished with three bangers - "Voodoo Child, "Cold Shot" & Pride and Joy". To top that off, it was right after the courts ordered Zeppelin's music back into the band's hands (at least that's how I remembered it). The whole band wasn't on stage with Plant, but Jimmy was. It was a hella good time!

SRV is usually in the top 5 or top 10 of any “top guitar player” magazine lists (not that those lists matter). Thanks for covering this. Watch the Jimi Hendrix “Voodoo Chile” Live in Maui video. You’ll love it and see the origins of it. Also watch the scene from Black Hawk Down where they play the SRV version. That’s some serious war music. SRV was too cool. Texas Blues/Rock.

Now you are venturing into the things I grew up on! There are definetly rock musicians out there that will blow your mind away!! SRV is more than a legend. He is argueably the best to ever play a guitar! Check out his track called Texas flood live or his Life Without You live also and your jaw wil drop even further! -without spoiling too much I'll say he plays just as good behind his back! Bonus info. He called his favourite guitar First Wife or Number One. LOL p.s Voodoo Child is a Jimi Hendrix cover. SRV was a huge hendrix fan. and was able to play his songs allmost even better filling in crazy riffs...

I’m sorry, but anyone that says Stevie Ray Vaughan was one of the best is missing what Stevie was, is, and always will be, the GOAT🤯 there was no one that could play like SRV, many have tried, some come close, but none will ever be as good! Stevie Ray played with an intensity and love for his craft that his ax, and his body were fused together when he played! There have been many multitude of top-notch guitarist, but no one comes close to what Stevie could do bending those strings. He was just ahead of some of the worlds elite, guitarist, not by much, but he was ahead of them and still is. if you want to see somebody that would bend your mind watch several videos on Roy Clark! Eddie Van Halen even said that Roy Clark was the best he’s ever seen but I believe SRV is just a little bit better, but we will never know🤔🤔🤔RIP GOAT!!!

Stevie played 13 gauge strings, which are really heavy and hard to bend. Most guitarists us 9 or 10 gauge, some use 11 gauge, and Malcolm Young of AC/DC uses 12 gauge. Nobody else among the top guitarists use 13s. And he bends the hell out of them. Massive power in his fingers.
@tonyhudson82354 ай бұрын
If you can throw vibrato into bends on a 12 gauge G string, you have strength. If you can do it with 13s ..... your fingers are made from tiny little Chuck Norrises

I met Stevie Ray after his soundcheck at the Grand Ole Opry House. I was shocked at how short he was! He was extremely nice and humble. He died in a helicopter crash later that same year. In 1999, I played my guitar through his custom Soldano amplifier that he was using on that same tour. It still had a cigarette burn on the top of the amp from Stevie Ray. Legend. ❤

Especially since I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn at Kalamazoo Free Fair. 100 years ago it seems. They left there togo do a gig somewhere around Chicago. But dont qoute me on that. I was in Michigan 87 to 91. The coolest and most unique thing about Stevie is, he never plays any song the same way twice. Go ahead, look up all the different Voodoo Chile videos he has. Every single one of them is different. Stevie is the worlds greatest guitar improviser.

A number of top musicians preform similarly ( never the same) because they are extremely competent artist
@hesch-tag Жыл бұрын
That is absolutely not true. SRV was great but far from the greatest improvisors. It's blues which is never note for note the same but SRV always played the same fast licks whereas Jimi Hendrix really really improvised and changed songs completely and took musical adventures. No comparison, not even close.
@donovantaylor5707 Жыл бұрын
@@hesch-tag BB King said, in a nutshell "All great musicians can improvise, but after awhile the well runs dry and we have to pause for a little bit to think. It was different with Stevie. His well never ran dry. He could impovise endlessly".
@hesch-tag Жыл бұрын
@@donovantaylor5707 Well in that case I don't agree with BB King. Listen to Stone free live at the Royal Albert Hall '69. Now that is improvising. Jimi created whole new songs. Improvising in blues is not that hard . Staying fresh is another story. SRV impressed certain people so much that they forget that he always stayed in the same lane. Give me a few examples where SRV really improvised without just rehashing fast licks on a different part of the neck. It might change my mind. People always go on about his version of Texas flood but it is so repetitive and predictable, it drives me crazy. Most people are just too impressed because he plays the same fast licks behind his back. Though very impressive, in the end it is just a trick to entertain the audience, just like Jimi did with his teeth (musically it doesn't add anything). SRV was great but he was not a great improvisor, no matter what his peers and friends claimed. I am open to taking back my words if you can come up with great examples.
@donovantaylor5707 Жыл бұрын
@@hesch-tag its difficult to take you seriously when you rave about Hendrix like that. Hendrix was influential, but he was a very sloppy player. Hendrix is a bum version of SRV.
