@@KnoxHill I actually chatted with them- to get some info. I have the Telegram screen name, and the YT user name. They did their homework bc they were saying things AT FIRST, that sounded like something you would say! After a minute the misspellings and grammatical errors are a dead give away. I forwarded it to KZbin and suggested while I’m appreciative of them protecting us over-age subscribers from things like CURSE WORDS, and SENSITIVE TOPICS, I’d throw some of that “protection budget” over into a protection from legitimate threats!?! Stealing my identity and draining my bank account, or ruining my credit is a tad more important to me than hearing profanity from one adult to another. But what do I know?

I like the choreography on this one. For background, Zac Efron is an uptown rich guy and Hugh Jackman wants him to leave it all for the Circus to live in a world of fun (which he does and finds the love of his life). kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZrQo6uGZ7pjkKc

Keala Settle, the main singer here, has been well-known on Broadway for decades, but always as minor characters. She knew Hugh Jackman from Broadway, and he brought her in to sing the part at the workshop to get the film greenlit as a result. After she sang this song, one of the execs cast her on the spot.

this is the anthem for all of us who've ever been bullied, picked on or made to feel bad about being who we are. if you've ever had a moment of self-doubt in your life this song will bring those emotions straight to the surface and you have to overcome them all over again. I love this song and the movie itself was incredible! I could listen to the soundtrack forever and never get tired of any of the song. "This is Me" always hits deep for me, and I remember that I've overcome so much and I'm still here today because I was brave enough to stand up and face my fears instead of letting them consume me. This song always gives me major chills, in the best way possible. It doesn't matter how many times I've listened to it or whether it is this original version or a cover. That's how friggin powerful it is. Also yes, words can be incredibly painful and it is a pain that often sticks with you far longer than that from a physical wound. This is not to say that it is impossible to overcome, but it takes time and sometimes distance. The old saying about sticks and stones is absolutely horrible in my opinion, because it invalidates that very real pain. It's kind like how my elementary school teachers told me to just ignore my bullies and they would eventually grow bored and leave me alone. They even went through the effort of creating a sketch about bullying and performing it for the entire class, yet they couldn't be bothered to lift a finger when said bullying happened literal minutes after the performance. I still remember it now after almost two decades. Also Knox Hill, I love your videos, both reactions and music. Wishing you all the best in life.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but word will never hurt me" is actually a misquote, the quote is actually "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can also hurt me. Stones and sticks break only skin, while words are ghosts that haunt me" - Alexander William Kinglake “Golden Sticks and Stones” 1862. The "...will never break me" (that turned into never hurt me) comes from George Cupples "Tappy’s Chicks: and Other Links Between Nature and Human Nature" 1872

I adore this musical. It's got such a great message about being true to yourself amongst societal pressures and how our differences should be embraced/celebrated because they're what make us special. This film is inspired by the life of P.T Barnum. I don’t think a lot of it is all that true but the premise is cool and what stands out are absolutely the songs. Really really great songs! The beginning opening number is always a good one 💜💜

I saw somewhere and liked the point that because Barnum was such a salesman (read con man 😁) that the inaccuracies of the film are so grandeously false for the sake of the show that they become the truth as its likely how he saw himself. And then there's how much the natural charm of Hugh Jackman changes how we view him. If he'd been played by someone more skeazy, we likely wouldn't have the same impression of the character. 🙂

One major thing they left out was that he actually had three daughters. One of them died quite young... he was also a lot more exploitative of the performers, and less supportive. He was also a major teetotaler and completely abhorred alcohol and drug use. Even went on a country-wide tour giving talks against it.

The song is made even more powerful when you know that it was written from someone's personal experience of feeling isolated and ostracised... Benj Pasek (the co-writer of the song): "For myself, I was a closeted gay man who as a teenager felt like the world was inundating me with messages that you’re not good enough or you’re unlovable, and what has been amazing about this song in particular is you realize the thing that feels like your own private struggle is something that other people relate to when you begin to put it into words. When you’re huddled in the dark and think you’re alone, you begin to shine a little bit of light into this place and you realize other people are huddled there, too."

The Other Side was the first song to blow me away in the movie because the song itself is a negotiation and it's tone shifts based on how it is going.

Also, that bartender completely stole the show from Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron ❤️❤️

This is such a beautiful movie. The message and the music really cut deep. It’s not just a fun kids musical, this is for anyone who may feel cast out or ostracized for their differences. It’s an Anthem. This movie mainly follows P.T. Barnum, who was a real person, who sensationalized “Freaks” and people who were different and gave them jobs and a place to perform for money- so, yes, exactly. A circus. In real life he was an abusive asshole to many of his performers and conditions he made them live in was horrendous, but for the sake of the film, he’s shown as a bit of a saint. It’s not wholly about him though it’s about the individuality of these characters and how they were able to rise up against criticism and come out of their shells despite all the backlash they got. I highly recommend this movie, it’s got a great cast line up as well. Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zendaya, Zack Efferon, etc.

That entire movie was powerful. If you haven't spent the time to see it, you owe it to yourself. All of the music is fantastic. Hugh Jackman worked so hard, for so long to make this movie a reality. There's a behind-the-scenes of them doing this song on KZbin and Hugh breaks into tears as the bearded lady sings the lead.

I generally don't see many musical movies. But I have to admit, I did see this. And its actually a pretty good movie. The songs are good. But the movie on its own.. its actually telling a pretty good story, and its done well. So the movie is well worth a watch for anyone who needs something to watch at some point. Also I remember when the movie was released it was well received, so there was interviews and so on. And clips of behind the scenes and such. Can't remember 100% But I think it was the first time she sang the song for the movie with the set there, and she was nervous, and it got emotional and people clapped and cried and such. Because, she might not have a beard in real life, but she felt the role as something she had felt through her own personal life.

I love this and i had the same reaction when i firsst heard it. It got me right in the chest. Also there is a greenlight performance. She was so scared and it was the first time she sang the song infront of anyone other than the cast. It really is an amazing performance. The film is great too.

Knox, you are such an intuitive individual. I know you don't know me, but you've become the friend I never call. I want to lift you up so I'm making a commitment to go back and watch as much of you as I can. Much love, my friend.

Apologies if it's mentioned elsewhere or if you've already reacted and I missed it, but can I recommend some Tim Minchin? You say "words can be the sharpest of daggers", Minchin says "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can break hearts!" in his magnificent song "Prejudice"
