You could really go down a rabbit hole with CCR. John Fogerty was the songwriter, vocalist, and lead guitar. This is one of their few covers. People called it Swamp Rock. Some recommended songs from the original 68-72 CCR run: Born on the Bayou Run Through The Jungle Proud Mary Lookin out my back door Down on the Corner Midnight Special Fortunate Son Lodi Have you Ever Seen the Rain? Long as I Can see the Light Who'll Stop The Rain? Suzy Q Bad Moon Rising Travelin' Band Sweet Hitch-hiker

My next-door neighbor had cosmo’s factory on an 8 track. Every time I’d get in his car when we’d go cruising, I’d put that in and play the hell out of this song. It got to the point he’d have to hide cosmo’s factory from me whenever we’d head out for the night. What memories.

Ahh Motown. Marvin Gaye’s rendition is most famous. Gladys Knight & the Pips did it first then CCR threw some rock into it. All great and released between 67-70. CCRs Fortunate Son is a must! You probably heard it in every Vietnam movie you’ve ever seen. Fogerty’s take on the class system during war. And speaking of Motown there’s a whole era to dig into! Try Gaye’s version, How Sweet It Is, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough to name a few. The Supremes, Temptations, Spinners, Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson…a lot of rock artists were inspired by Motown soul.

That intro is one of the most instantly recognizable pieces of music in the history of rock and roll. If I’m not mistaken it’s one of a handful of songs that were forbidden in many music stores. Several movies use this song as a background to set the time frame of the movie to the last 60's and early 70's, the late 60's being the end of the Vietnam war. Creedence Clearwater Revival recorded the song in 1970, but the song was written for Motown records in 1966 by "The Miracles" and first released as a single for Glady's Knight @ the Pips in 1967. It became the #1 R&B hit and number two in the Top Hot 100. The song was recorded by several artists after that including Marvin Gaye in 1958 and became his #1 Single in the U.S. that year.. Back in this time the idea of copyright was still being fleshed out and it was common for artist to sing a catchy song no matter who the original artist was.

this song has been covered by SO many artists, but i think this is one of the best.

"...Grapevine" is one of those songs it's almost impossible to fuck up. I've heard a few different versions, and they all work well. Gaye's original obviously is iconic, but this one adds a level of menace.

CCR are amazing - can't believe it took me as long as it did to find them and really get to fully appreciate them. If you really want to continue way out of your comfort zone but want to hear musicianship at its absolute finest in a live performance with no gizmos or gimmicks and just pure unadulterated talent, then I'd love you to react to Deep Purple - Child In Time Live 1970. I promise it'll blow you away and leave you speechless.

This was a cover, but they did mostly originals. You may have heard of another CCR song, a little tune called "Proud Mary". I think some female singer, Tina Something, covered it. 😉
