Movies painting that ideal picture of romance and relationships was a very deliberate tactic by Hollywood. The DeBeers diamond monopoly used Hollywood films to popularize the diamond engagement ring as a way to propose marriage. Engagement rings weren't a thing until movies made them popular. The rule of thumb used to be that you were supposed to spend no less than 2-3 months salary on an engagement ring. Which is how they convinced people to spend more on gaudy diamonds that aren't actually very rare. DeBeers mined so many diamonds that they began to stockpile them. Which is why it's extremely difficult or impossible to resell diamonds for anywhere near the price you paid, because diamonds aren't actually rare, they were artificially hoarded to make them seem rare.

Like I've seen another comment say, I wouldn't consider them nu-metal but they definitely got put in that category and played with those types of bands.

Trouble with this song I always had was, it seemed like the label were forcing it to be a "hit" they re released it at least 3 times with 2 different videos. Just felt really corporate back in the day.

Yeah i agree. The label were trying to push them into that nu metal wave.

I never really thought of them as nu-metal but they definitely were lumped in with other bands of that time. Saw them open at a show with Orgy and Spineshank. It was my first time hearing them and Smooth Criminal fucking killed live! Definitely suggest the These Days video of them crashing the BET awards.

Always made me think more of pop punk? The kind of song that could be on most radio stations. For NuMetal I’d still like to hear IMN by Mudvayne. To this day, that song makes me want to grab Monday by its remaining ear.

they're kind of a strange mix of nu metal and pop punk. And their singer doesn't handle being heckled very well. I know that from experience

LOL Nah. If they’re gonna expose themselves to that songs or the first time, shouldn’t they listen to the original at least?
@DefinitelyNotBender5 күн бұрын
Yea, they are considered NüMetal. Also considered one of the Worst NüMetal bands ever. We booed them off stage in Dallas halfway through their second song back when I was in highschool(they were the first band on the main stage at Edgefest 2001). I don't think they ever came back to Dallas after that. Literally the very definition of "One Hit Wonders" and honestly that hit wasn't even that good. It was mid at best.
@metalguru855 күн бұрын
Yeah they fit nu metal but diet nu metal. The biggest surprise is they are still going in 2024.
