Opinion: Johannes is the greatest all around vocalist in metal. He can false chord scream, fry scream, sing extremely clean in an incredibly wide range, sing with slight vocal distortion, etc. He has full closed vocal notes incredibly high and low. And one thing that often goes unnoticed, unless you know Avatar like I do, is he can actually mold the tone of his voice to fit the personality and tone of each song. They are the most versatile band on the planet imo. My favorite without question.

This made me laugh. The guy is okay, but by no means great, let alone greatest. What the hell are you on? And you know, you can have a favorite band/vocalist without them being technically the greatest. What he's best at in my opinion is the stage presence.

@@forizzle1649 No, I've listened to quite enough, trust me. I also detest the word "talent" - like he hasn't worked at it for decades like every other artist. Again, he's good. He is not even close to being the greatest at something.

J B You must’ve missed the first word of the thread where it said “Opinion.” So I don’t know what the hell you’re on. And I never once said he’s the greatest therefore it’s my favorite band. Or vice versa. He’s the greatest and it’s my favorite band. And I also specifically said he’s the greatest all around metal vocalist. So let me break it down for you since you clearly can’t read too well. So he’s not the best at cleans or the beat false chord screamer, or the best fry screamer. But he is the most versatile. I’m literally just repeating myself and I don’t know why. Go away troll.

I've been rifling thru your video library & am honestly mad at myself for missing this 3 month old reaction. Avatar is one of the bands I've been waiting for you to react to without realizing... you have already. Lol That said, this band is AMAZING live. If you guys ever want to do a reaction to a full concert video, their set from Wacken Open Air Festival in 2015 would be at the top of my list for recommendation for your first. That show was absolutely fantastic from the buildup for "Hail the Apocalypse" all the way thru "Smells Like a Freakshow." Great energy thru the whole show, intelligent song placement (this particular song was right in the middle - song 4 of 7, and it's great for a bit of rest with bursts of energy sprinkled throughout - great for moshing), & the way "Bloody Angel" led into "Vultures Fly" is probably one of my favorite transitions I've ever seen at a concert not involving Corey Taylor. Lol. I could ramble all day, but i think I've made my point. Lol. Check out that set. You won't be disappointed.

I took it as the man was a dude who worked for the hospital and back in the day medical treatments were life and death. He was tasked with denying those people, basically sentencing them to death or at least miserable lives of pain and suffering. The video is about his guilt manifesting in nightmares and a Dark Angel who begins to haunt him as his sanity slips
@ryantannar530110 ай бұрын
a lot of people have taken it as a concentration camp or gulag worker. never considered the hospital angle but I think all 3 of those kind of draw from the same basic concepts in a way so all 3 seem fairly likely.
@nessxerglingtowers80004 жыл бұрын
The name Avatar, the founding members named it after a Hindu God representing potential, forming the band when they were 15/16 I think. Great reaction. Thank you. As others have said the song is about self guilt, finding others to blame until you recognise that you were responsible for what ever it was. It is about daring to be honest with yourself and recognise your own responsibility for what went on. The video itself represents this perfectly in a specific scenario of the man who has the job of stamping the final approval for people to be condemned to a concentration camp type facility, and his battle between blaming the system and recognising his own guilt in condemning these innocents. But the song itself is none specific, it is simply about recognising your own responsibility to the hurt you cause to others.

Avatar opened for Babymetal at the Orlando show in 2019 that I went to. They put on a hell of a good show, I was thoroughly impressed. Their videos are very good and live they rock out. Definitely a solid band with a cool look. Honestly, I was there for Babymetal 100%. However, I was happily surprised that this excellent band started the night off with a blend of showmanship and in your face music. Loved it.
@yureikertia69403 жыл бұрын
I personally interpret the video this way: The singer is the protags guilty conscious. He has tried to ignore it, continued to do his job that consisted of condeming other people to death, probably justifying it with being forced to do it by his higher ups (there are a few shots of that big portrait on the wall as though it is watching to make sure he does his job). In his dreams however, his consciousness shows him that he is guilty and can't deny his responsibility for his own actions. First his consciousness is just screaming at him that its wrong. Next it goes to seemingly harm the protag (maybe because it makes the protag feel bad when he tries to claim he doesnt have a choice), to the protagonist actually about to cut of his consciousness arm, maybe implying that he is trying or willing to throw his humanity and sense of morality out of the window out of fear. As the protag realizes what he is about to do, he tries to flee, only to be confronted by the consequences of his actions. A house with blood smeared around, implying someone was killed, possibly a child due to the teddy bear. Then the protag wakes up, shaken to the core because he cant really deny his guilt any longer. He tries to behave like normal, but can't. When he arrives at work, his guilty conscience is already there. Now there is a bit of an open end for me, either he now has to do his job fully aware of the guilt he has, or his guilty conscience takes over and does the job for him, meaning he can no longer watch the injustice happening and stops condeming people to death. But thats just my take

I think the bloody angel is the guy in the video, he talks about those bureaucrats in bloody regimes whose job is just to stamp a file, but that stamp is a death sentence for someone. That is why he says "the blood is in your hands" and in the torture room he exchanges the position of victim and discovers himself as a torturer. In the end he himself is expendable and discarded and the German shepherd (the security that the political regime gives him) abandons him.

Avatar is a swedish band, bloody angel is a song about what the swedes did to the Jewish refugees during WW2 fleeing the Nazis. Instead of letting anyone and everyone come to Sweden as the world thought they did, in recent declassified documents by swedish intelligence they picked and choosed who to let in and who to leave in Nazi hands. The German shepherd obviously represents the German ideal of the final solution and the man is a swedish immigration worker passing judgement. The man in the painting is their president of the time during WW2 Per Albin hasson. The dog showing up represents basically what the swedes did to the Jews was basically just as bad as what the Nazis did and the swedes knew what they where doing and Avatar who is portraying a ghost is their torment or guilt screaming in the immigration workers ear and giving him (the swedish government) nightmares. The end basically means now that the secrets are out and the public knows, just because the Nazis where stopped (the German shepheard leaving) there's a new person to pass judgement and it's the swedish people this time ( the lead singer sitting at the desk) but it's on the swedish government and deciding on how they want to hold their government accountable for how they treated the Jews.

The lead guitar is AMAZING and perfect- I think they didn't get enough credit for their talent. I feel like the video/song is about a serial killer. His "angel" releases him from his inhibition to kill by telling him it's okay to "save" his victims by killing them. It also seems that he blames the angel for the killings, while over time, he allows the angel to take him over. By the end, the angel is in control and the man is the "passenger" in a life that he can no longer lead.
