Sweet little girls dancing and singing, playing hide and seek on metal chords? And everything done flawlessly? Sometimes I get the feeling a part of Japan is one big Stanley Kubrick movie. And it gives me the same reaction. One big grin, from ear to ear. It's like you take life, and then you take it to the very limit of your imagination. All it needs then is a genius putting it together. His name is Key Kobayashi, also known as Koba-metal. He had a dream, a very weird one. And it worked!

The growling vocals are on the backing track. They use a backing track for all the extra stuff that is in their songs. Sound effects, male vocals, extra instruments that aren't guitars and drums. Stuff like that. Key Kobayashi is the producer who put it all together. Either he had wanted to do this for a while or he had the inspiration watching Su sing when she was in Karen Girl's. But it was formed around her. Her voice is perfect for metal. It's so strong. If you want to see a 10 year old Suzuka in her first 3 girl trio. She starts on the left. Plenty of people have told you about Koba being the guy who had the idea of BABYMETAL and built the group around Su after working with her while she was part of another group. To answer your question, Hollywood, the drummer's name is Hideki Aoyama. He is an absolute beast on the kit. He and BOH, the bassist (bald dude) are my favorites of the band. I had no idea that this was about playing hide-and-seek with an ogre demon. That is amazing info to have, so thanks to all who passed along that tidbit!

Forgot it was Babymetal Monday! My favourite Babymetal song (though I do tend to say that about 30 of their songs) and without doubt the best Metal song about playing Hide and Seek ever (frankly, I don't think most Metal bands have dared to address the subject so well done Babymetal yet again). A lot of people don't like compilations but, because Babymetal are so tight and practiced and professional, it seems OK to mix up their shows sometimes as they match up in timings mostly. If you wanna see a version that's live, has the Kami Band intro and English subtitles then you need to see this one, from Black Night Legend concert. The lyrics are great! Oh, and fucking awesome reaction as ever, guys. See you! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJibhpKgZcyjgqs PS 3:45 - "It's a she" "It's a he"...it was Fukio Mitsuji, a great - male! - guitarist who sadly died back in Jan 2018. A big loss to the Kami Band but you weren't to know so cool. 4:52 PS AGAIN - Gotta love how you both suddenly got big grins on your faces as the girls came out on stage! That's what we all do when the angels appear on stage- they just make you instantly happy. It's like magic!

Key Kobayashi, also known as "KOBAMETAL" is the Japanese music producer who put Babymetal together. He's a metal fan who had an idea, but it wasn't until he heard the power of Su's voice that he knew just how he would do it. It's all built around her. Mikiko Mizuno designs their choreography, as well as the Olympic festival a few years ago. It's a group effort, but those are the main people behind it.

This song is about Kakurenbo (traditional japanese game, kind of like tag and hide & seek). The girls are playing this, running and hiding from an oni (flesh-eating demon ogre), that's the growling voice in the background. You can hear the oni asking "Oi! Mou ii kai?!" (Hey! Are you ready?!), and the girls answer "Mada da yo!" (Not yet!) while they run looking for a place to hide.

It's a shame you were given a link for a compilation video when there are good pro-shot live performances of Catch Me If You Can to be found very easily - even on KZbin. One from Budokan has all the Kami Band solos as they are played, not dodgy clips of the different guitarists taken from other solos on other songs, or the one from Makuhari Messe has the girls hyping the crowd up for two or three minutes before the song even starts. Yes they were having fun - they were playing hide and seek on stage ... but keeping it metal as they were playing it with an Oni (a sort of Japanese ogre). The growling voice is the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" with Yui and Moa responding "Maada da yo" (No not yet) and doing the running away from an Oni dance. I'm sure you have been told in the comments on previous videos who is behind it all and how he developed the whole idea for Babymetal around Su, so I won't repeat it all again here.

Many thanks again for your good information from Japan 有難う💛. In return, just FYI (or you maybe alredly know it). The last part of the lyric means "Red shoes, you shouldn't wear. Because they are dangerous." It comes from an old Japanese song written in 1922 "A girl wearing red shoes" being based on a story told soon after the Meiji Restoration when Japan started to open to Western countries. The song is about a foreigner who took a little girl away to his homeland and the girl was allegedly wearing a pair of red shoes. So this song seemed to relate to some crime and the people at that time (more than 100 years ago) were cautious about foreigners as potentially dangerous existence like big red-haired ogres. The true story, however, were turned out to be different. There was a couple and the husband and wife were too poor to take care of their daughter suffering from tuberculosis which was incurable disease at that time in Japan. So the parents trusted the girl to a American missionary and asked him to foster her. The girl's disease was very bad and died before going to the USA. The mother, however, believed that her daughter became healthy and was living in the country across the ocean. In any case the song "A girl wearing red shoes" has sad background. But again BabyMetal with their magic turned the sad feeling into a cheerful mood in a child play, hide and seek. They sometimes change drastically negative thing into positive one. "Gimme Chocolate", which use to have a sad memory for Japanese, is another example. Sorry for lengthy explanation.

@@kevinhiggins7838 Thanks for your response. Right after the World Work II, almost all big cities in Japan were totally destroyed and brought under control by the Occupation Army delegated from USA. There were numerous children on street and they were all hungry. When a jeep came by, they run after the jeep shouting "give me chocolate !" and begged the sweets to American soldiers, because it was the most delicious food they could barely get if the soldiers were kind enough to share. I am 64 years old, born 10 years after WW II ended, so I personally did not have such experience. But the phrase "give me chocolate" has still make many Japanese people recall the miserable situation. Koba, the producer of BABYMETAL, must know what the phrase means. Nevertheless BM's "Gimme Chocolate" has drastically turned the meaning upside down. It's a song about a girl who loves chocolate while she is careful for her weight. No sad or miserable thing at all. Nothing but cheerful, laughable and peaceful situation is there. Some older fan said this song should be a tribute to all of the soldiers died in battlefields and people who suffered during the war and in the postwar period. I agree that this song implies the true end of the W W II and would remove some type of trauma existing deep down in aged Japanese people' mind if they listen to it. I hope this will help you understand. Thanks again
@kevinhiggins7838
@kevinhiggins7838 4 жыл бұрын
Wow... thanks again. I know there’s the phrase “Don’t think. Feel.” Su apparently said that somewhere but I’d rather think. This certainly provides something to think about. You say Koba must know the meaning, but did Koba write the song? On my vinyl it doesn’t mention anything about the songwriters or for that matter the musicians of any of the songs. It’s seems strange to me how so much talent can be assembled without even public recognition given to them. Anyway, regard this as being rhetorical in nature... I’m not expecting you to be the one stop answer shop.

It is fairly easy to mix songs from different shows with BABYMETAL, those earpieces they have are playing a click track(metronome), some robot will go 3,2,1,3,2,1,... sometimes (usually when SU is holding a long note) and have other cues so they are always in perfect time in every single show. One of the reasons they are so good live.

Yeah this is definitely a dope song. You got to see the live in Tokyo version of this. Funny when he called the guitarist a girl. All the band members are dudes except for the three female singers :)

If not only the song in it self is badass, knowing that the song is about the girls playing hide-and-seek with an Oni (an man-devouring ogre/troll, from Japanese folklore), makes it even better.

Great reaction, as usual, thanks! This was my very first BABYMETAL song so it's very special to me. And it's still one of my favorites. And, of course, the "Moa slide" is one of the cutest parts of choreo I've ever seen.

When a channel keeps asking for listener requests for Babymetal songs to react to, that's really cool. But a small part of me feels a little sad. In the decade they have been performing, only 3 albums have been released, so those requests will soon be exhausted. But that feeling mostly dissipates when I remember that ALL of the songs on those 3 albums are worth reacting to. Heck, I listened to the first two albums _exclusively_ for about 5 years. In car, at work, at home. There's a LOT of mileage in those few songs, both figuratively and literally. 😁 And although there are a couple of slightly overlapping 'themes' (like; 'this is a ballad', or ' this is a more rap-based thing') it's definitely the exception to the rule: most are just not going to be what you expect AT ALL based on prior experience of the band. The original game plan was to break some boundaries of 'genre'. Maybe they thought; "Well. This sure seems to be going better than we expected; let's see just how far out we can push this boat..." That they are all stellar-level musicians and performers hasn't held up their success too much, of course. Love the reactions, and the format. Keep 'em coming, and keep safe. 🥰

Thank you for mentioning how the girls are obviously enjoying what they are doing. It's important, because so many people are calling them fake and unauthentic. This alone proves them wrong. Nobody could fake that. I cannot watch a compilation video without a rant, though: Anybody who knows the slightest thing about guitars will notice that the video footage of the guitarist playing the first solo does not match up with the music all. This will confirm the naysayers' beliefs that they are fake. Hence it's a stupid idea. And it just looks wrong.

Bro, the reason it doesn’t match up is because it’s a complication vid of their performances?? Can you please explain your thought process?? I don’t exactly know what you’re complaining about???
@MacTaipan
@MacTaipan 4 жыл бұрын
@@yandereboyenthusiast8149 Yes, I‘m complaining about it being a compilation. What I‘m seeing is not what I‘m hearing, which I find particularly annoying during close-ups of the guitarist‘s playing. And the second point is that BABYMETAL shows are a visual treat as well. So having the girls jump from stage to stage and from costume to costume every few seconds makes for a incoherent and incomplete experience. Just my personal opinion, if it doesn‘t bother other people, good for them.
