They were around a long time before Rage came on the scene. He was singing with that voice way back in 1986 with their hit Fight For Your Right. It's also perfectly okay to not like every band/genre. That's what makes your channel one of the best out there. When you don't like something you are upfront with it, yet still respectful. I don't like early Beastie Boys, but I was a teen when songs like Intergalactic hit. I like that era because it has ties to my youth. Their tunes were blasting at every skate/bmx park in the nation. Those were good times with good friends. I look back fondly at the bumps, bruises, and broken bones we all took along the way constantly pushing the limits. When music can invoke a memory, that's when it means something to you.

Even if their music isn't to your taste, it's just a fact that Hip Hop wouldn't be what it is today without BB. They helped usher it into the mainstream, and you'd be hard pressed to find a Hip Hop artist from the past two decades (or most other popular genres) that doesn't count them as an inspiration.

They played instruments, programmed beats, wrote the lyrics, directed videos and that's only scratching the surface, they did it all. So many great tracks, Root Down, Shadrach, 3 MCs, professor booty, gratitude, pass the mic, skills to pay the bills, the list is endless.

beastie boys were formed in the late 70's (performed at some of the top punk venues in ny), they came before bdp, and eric b and rakim. they are the greatest hip hop band of all time, period. they were trend setters that were way ahead of their time, often imitated but never duplicated. you need to check out the entire paul's boutique album (historical hip hop album).

To ignore them as being influential to all of hip hop is absurd . That being said no metal heads or rock fans thought of them as a rock band trying to be rappers. But we knew they played instruments and gave them more credit than the typical sample based rappers at the time, and now it’s evident that they were masters of their craft, excellent song writers both ahead of their time and pioneers and their music even this “alt-dance-club-rock” track is legit fire to this day.

Beastie Boys were formed out of members of experimental hardcore punk band the Young Aborigines in 1978, with Diamond as vocalist, Jeremy Shatan on bass guitar, John Berry on guitar, and Kate Schellenbach on drums. When Shatan left in 1981, Yauch replaced him on bass and the band changed their name to Beastie Boys. Berry left shortly thereafter and was replaced by Horovitz.

I wish there would be more reactions to different songs by the Beastie Boys. I mean Sabotage and all that is cool, but they have such an extensive amount of music, and everyone only seems to suggest the most mainstream of them all. What about The Move, Root Down, the original version of Body Movin, The Negotiation, The New Style, 3 MC's and 1 DJ the album and video version. Professor Booty...

The fact that Hollywood hasn't heard this song is one reason I have so much respect for the Beastie Boys. They refuse to let their music be used commercially. As a matter of fact, Sabotage is the only BB song I know of that was used in a movie (Star Trek). Intergalactic is my personal favorite BB song for 1 line. "Professor Booty" and "So What'cha Want" off Check Your Head, "Shake Your Rump" and "Hey Ladies" off Paul's Boutique, "Root Down" and "Get it Together (with Q-Tip)" off Ill Communication, "Body Movin'" and "intergalactic" off Hello Nasty, and "The Brouhaha" and "An Open Letter to NYC" off To The 5 Boroughs. They're definitely older school hip-hop and if that isnt your thing then you might not enjoy it as much, but they have a long and storied career and are definitely influential. The sample game on the Paul's Boutique album was so over the top they ended up moving back to playing instruments more for their samples after that. Thanks for this one!

edit--They were way before KRS1 and Rakim, they released their first Hip Hop track in 1983 your talking Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash..., Whodini, The Sugarhill Gang, Afrika Bambaataa, and believe it or not the Oakland OG Too Short. They were the first to bring Public Enemy on tour, got LL signed and wrote the beat for his first single. They produce their own music with 1 of 2 or 3 co-producers, they can play their own instruments, they direct their own videos for the most part, the defined street fashion/skater fashion for the 90 's. I think if you really gave them a listen you would like them. They always blazed their own path never followed what others were doing.

You said " change your mind ".... Well, slipknot and Korn did a dual live at their concert this jam. Highly recommend it but wish they did the full version though, imo

For that first trivia question, the one about the biggest single of all time, the singer dude on the right was talking about is See You Again by Charlie Puth. Not Ed Sheeran lol. But Ed Sheeran's single Shape of You is also one of the biggest singles of all time. I believe it's the biggest streaming song ever.

The reason why the Beastie Boys are considered influential is because, prior to them, nobody rapped on tracks that were so rock based if that makes sense. While some producers used small samples of rock music the Beastie Boys were the first group to go so deeply into rapping over rock type beats. The founder of Def Jam Rick Rubin (along with Russell Simmons)was the producer behind the idea. It was not received well by a lot of old school hip hop fans but they have a very loyal fan base.

Sabotage is a french word that derives from workers in a print works that were faced with getting obsoleted by automation, causing them to throw their wooden shoes (sabos) into the works of the machines, the word sabotage is derived from that action

Zack was in Hardcore bands like (Hard Stance) before Rage. He has the same exact influences as the Beasties, two major ones being BAD BRAINS and Minor Threat.

Just a comment on the video: it is a spoof on 70s cop shows (think Starsky and Hutch). Glad ya'll reacted to it, even if Six didn't dig it! 😉
