I'm so glad to see people still loving In Flames. I was a kid when I discovered these guys (I am 34 years old) and I remember hiding their music from my mom because of her religion.. but my dad welcomed it! (They split when I was 4 so he didn't care what she thought) Such a fucking great band! Have a great day guys

These guys have been playing since early 90's! Definitely more melodic metal than Hardcore, but a lot of Hardcore fans like In Flames as well. You'll hear the difference if you listen to HC bands like Madball, BioHazard, Agnostic Front, H20 etc...

The lead guitarist went from Megadeth to In Flames, which is mind blowing for us swedes who are so proud of In Flames and the whole melodic Death metal scene that we originated and that spawned so many american bands that would sound completely different if it wasn’t for bands like In Flames, At the Gates and Arch Enemy.

This comment will probably get buried, but In Flames is one of the pioneers of a metal subgenre called Melodic Death Metal (sometimes shortened to "Melodeath"), and it's one of my absolute favorite styles of music. I would love it if you guys would check out more. You've actually dipped your toes into it on a few other reactions, like Arch Enemy (I think this was the female-fronted band you mentioned in this video) and Kalmah (which you guys reacted to a long time ago and I was shocked to see since they aren't a huge name but are one of my favorites). Along with In Flames, the other members of the big 3 of melodic death metal are Dark Tranquillity and At The Gates. All three of them are from a suburb of the city of Gothenburg, Sweden and are very intertwined. Dark Tranquillity and In Flames actually swapped vocalists after their respective debut albums. Dark Tranquillity is my personal favorite of the three and I'd love to see you guys give them a shot. Some good starting songs from them would be Monochromatic Stains, Through Smudged Lenses, ThereIn, Focus Shift, or Misery's Crown (which shows off the vocalist's great clean vocals). At The Gates is maybe slightly closer to the "death metal" side of melodic death metal, but their riffs are very emblematic of the Gothenburg melodeath sound. They released a hugely impactful album in the genre called Slaughter Of The Soul that countless metalcore bands have been ripping off the riffs from for years. If you want to check them out, I'd recommend songs like Blinded By Fear, Under A Serpent Sun, or Suicide Nation. In Flames has actually really fallen off a ton lately, really going to a less metallic sound (possibly what you guys picked up on here when you called the a Hardcore band) that often comes across as pretty basic. Their older stuff was a lot more innovative and, at least in my opinion, way better that what they've been putting out recently. If you do more In Flames reactions, I'd love to see the songs Moonshield or Artifacts of the Black Rain on your channel. Besides those big 3, some other bands from the genre that I think you guys might enjoy are Soilwork, Amorphis, Insomnium, Kalmah, Nightrage, Belakor, and many many more. If this long-ass comment gets your attention and you want more bands I'm always happy to spread my favorite metal style!

Would love to see some Dark Tranquillity or At the Gates here :) In Flames has never really struck the nerve for me. I went to see DT with a friend as a birthday present, bought us tickets, though I'd never been much of a fan. When they played "Inside the Particle Storm", I was dumbstruck. Such a powerful track!
@dmphax Жыл бұрын
@@punkjay4681 agree with Dark Tranquillity. They're amazing! I discovered In Flames first with The Jester Race, and then DT shortly after with "Not Built To Last" off Haven. While I liked IF initially, it took a while for me to really appreciate them. Meanwhile, 1 listen of DT and I was mesmerised! I had literally heard nothing comparable to what I was hearing! They're now my favourite band overall.
@punkjay4681 Жыл бұрын
@Laura Gud for me it took about 20 years to get into these bands 😆 First I was a bit narrow-minded "don't ruin my death metal with melody" guy, and when I got over that phase At the Gates had called it quits and In Flames gone full pop mode. For some reason DT always avoided me somehow.
@dmphax Жыл бұрын
@@punkjay4681 they're very different from typical Melodic Death Metal on albums Projector/Haven/We Are The Void/Construct/Atoma/Moment. They had the 3 album run of Damage Done/Character/Fiction mid-career, which brought them back in to more Melodeath with the energy and aggression. Early stuff was very much Melodeath, but the other albums are full of ambience from the synths, and much more clean vocals/playing with different styles and influences while still keeping the DT thumbprint. This is all to say, they are an acquired taste for some people I feel!

One of my all time favorite bands. I saw Children of Bodom and them on tour, opening for Megadeth back in 2008. At that time I had absolutely no ideo who they were. In Flames' live show was on a whole nother level. It was that single live show that got me into them. Literally just their live show, not their music because I didn't know any at the time, just capitivated me so much. Now not a single day goes by that I don't rock out to at least one In Flames song at some point

There are a few bands a lot harder than Slaughter to Prevail. Infant Annihilator for one. Cattle Decapitation goes hard as fuck. Thrash Metal was birthed post Heavy Metal. Because of Thrash’s pretty large influence along came the likes of Cannable Corpse and so on. One of the heaviest Metal songs in all of existence come from a Band Diamond Head with their track Am I Evil. Still to this day many argue it boasts one of the heaviest riffs of all time as well. These dude was rocking before Metallica.

In Flames are part of the first wave of melodic deathmetal, not hardcore. The metalcore bands of the early 2000's combined hardcore with melodeath and In Flames was one of the bands they drew inspiration from, other notable melodeath bands are Dark Tranquility, At The Gates, Soilwork and Carcass went melodeath with their Heartwork album.

@Marquis l'Exil you're right. Thier first album dropped in 1994. This was along the same time as bands like At the Gates, Dark tranquility and Gates of Ishtar. Really solidifying my point futher. These bands brought melodic death metal to Europe. They essentially created this sound known as Swedish melodic death metal In flames is very much a metalcore band these days. Using "core" elements such as harmonic choruses and breakdowns.
