Yeah it was awesome, but a lot of drummers started that after Tommy Lee of Motley Crue first did it with their Girls Girls Girls tour... song he did that too was Wild Side... if I remember correctly. Seen it when I was a teenager at that time and thought that was the most amazing shit I ever seen a drummer do.... Joey did it better 🤘😎🤘

Sidenote: During this show (and most of the time in Slipknot) he was using Ahead Drum sticks. They are aluminum drumsticks that are heavier than the same size wood stick. With the speed that he is playing at...you got to have some killer strength and dexterity to be whipping those around the kit the way he does. Not to mention the heads and cymbals he used back then to take the abuse he's dishing out. Another one taken way too soon. And somehow the friggin' kardashiens are still here.... RIP Joey. Thank you for the music that inspired many. You will be missed.

There is video of Joey lifting his mask to empty out the sweat and puke that accumulates from how hard they play during shows. The puke is a very specific story, I remember reading that his hair would go into the mouth of his mask and gag him during shows, so he'd puke sometimes. I imagine the heat and energy doesn't help either.

All drummers can play their songs exactly as they sound in their albums but in live shows they usually change some patterns, mostly fills to make songs sound fresh. It would be the same thing that singers and guitarist do in concerts.

I've honestly never heard that Joey had to have special sticks made so that he could reach all the kit. Where on earth did that come from? Shawn did start Slipknot. He's the only original member left. Joey was really responsible for much of the band's logos and imagery once they became 'Slipknot'. The band existed before then but under different names.

As a drummer, I can tell you that drums, cages, cymbal stands, and drum thrones are adjustable to pretty much any height of the player. Drum kits aren't set at a certain, unadjustable height where you're going to require bigger sticks, etc 😂😂😂 Joey played the songs live pretty much like he played them on the studio track. Memorizing it isn't as hard as you think, especially when you rehearsed it over and over again in the process of writing it, and played it over and over in the process of recording it in the studio. By the time a band starts playing new songs off an album on a tour, it's pretty much muscle memory and they don't really have to think about what comes next. Like anything you do repetitively, you eventually get to a point where you can do it without thinking... even showboat while doing it.If you have played it a thousand times before you even hit the stage, you're already to the point of being sick of it a lot of times. By the end of a year long worldwide tour where you have played it every night, you're probably happy to start on fresh new material. If it's a band with longevity, say you've been going 30 years and are still playing tracks from your first 2 albums live because they are fan favorites, you tend to just want to get through it and get it over because you have played it so many times you practically hate it lol

Just watched it obv verrry influences by Lars style everyone knows Metallica songs his playing sounded exactly like Lars except w less songwriting dynamics Lars just has that instinct to play with the song better than anyone I’ve ever heard. Not as strong as an Ulrich back beat like you don’t have to put Lars down to say Joey did a great job filling in I prefer Lars drumming but RiP Joey

Triggers dont make you go faster. Triggers are just sensors for each drum head and it triggers the drum sound (for whatever drum) no matter how hard or soft you hit it. So basically you can go faster AKA not hit as hard but it sounds like you're giving it a full hard strike. Basically turning it into an electric kit. Bands you're familiar with do this like Slaughter to Prevail. If you listened to Slaughter to Prevail's drums without triggers it would be a softer/quieter sounding on the fast parts.

It's more of muscle memory. Works for a lot of different things. I'm a road racer and when you heel toe going into turns (working the throttle, brake and clutch to downshift) it's all muscle memory. I find myself heel towing getting onto highway exits because it's engrained into my head that to slow down from a faster speed you need to rev match down to the next gear to ease up weight transfer so you don't under steer. It's the same concept.

Think of it this way - at 216 beats per minute, he’s playing mostly 8ths and 16ths. If it was all just 8ths individually, that alone is 1,728 hits each minute. So for this 5 minute song, there’s between 8,000 and maybe 16,000 hits in just this song.
