Chris and Chester were best friends. Chester was godfather to Chris's kids. It's another layer of sadness that Chester took his life within weeks of this performance on what would've been Chris's birthday. Should do a reaction to Chris and Chester singing together.

It makes me sad that I didn't appreciate Linkin Park when Chester was alive. I was a metal elitist then and just never took the time (have since been cured of my close-mindedness). I liked the grunge scene and Chris Cornell was a top tier vocalist and got to see him live a few times and he was astonishing. One of my biggest musical regrets is not going to see Chester live. I have since listened to every live performance available and he had the voice of an angel and could scream like a demon - he is in the running for best metal vocalist IMO. A lot Linkin Park songs don't have rap in them - most go hard and Chester sounds as good (if not better) live. RIP Chester, RIP Chris, and RIP Joey Jordison (hope you are pounding those double kicks in heaven). If there is a heaven, the soundtrack must be amazing!!

I feel kind of bad that I didn't give their later albums the time of day because of the tone/style change. I appreciate some of their later songs a bit more now but I feel like I was too judgemental of their decision to move away from the nu metal that I loved.

Chester background is grunge. He loves everything about grunge. nirvana, Soundgarden STP was his huge influence. He also replaced STP vocalist in 2013-2015. His band "Grey Daze" before he joined LP is also grunge, grey daze reunited in 2020 and released their album "amends" using Chester vocal from 1997

This live performance was actually the same day Chris Cornell died. They heard the news in the dressing room and that's why they say that they wanted to play heavy but changed it to play one more light. That's also why Chester was crying because the news were fresh.

The other guys look like they are about to break into tears any moment, too. The story goes that when they rehearsed this song, Chester could not make it to the end without breaking even once. And on this live setting he missed some lines either because he just forgot them or because he was crying too much. Which pretty much just adds to the effect.

Chester and Chris were basically family. Chester was Chris children’s godfather. They went on vacations together. Chester was actually on vacation with his family had to come back to shoot a commercial then go right back to his family and that night happen to be Chris Cornell birthday and he started drinking a little and his maid found him the next morning. His son Draven who was 15 in an interview told them that he was starting to give stuff away like his best mic he gave to him and he was extremely happy. That’s a big sign that suicide might be coming. He told the interviewer that he talks to his dad through the mic and he can feel his dad back. What an amazing young man. I died the day Chester took his life. The band got me through so much! RIP to the man who sang like an angel and screamed like a demon. 🙏

I watched some short documentary about Chester's depression and what shook me was a comment that said that if you have a suicidal depression, it does not matter if you are OK 364.5 says a year. One bad night is enough to kill you, regardless of how many good ones you had. In Chester's words, "My mind is like a really bad neighborhood. It's not safe to walk there alone."

This song was written by Mike Shinoda and Eg White after a friend at the label died from cancer. Chester dedicated it to Chris when he died and then when Chester died, the band released the official video in memory of Chester. So this song has so much depth. It’s about showing people you care about them in times of grief, and what could be more universal?

.r.i.p Chester!! His death ripped my heart out. I believe he was the first celebrity death who effected me very much. Like I've known him personally. I mean I was a fan day ONE. Right when they came out was a huge fan and supported them, went and seen them live more then once.and followed them. Love you Chester! I pray God has forgiven your soul and your at peace and not suffering. I know personally that the spiritual realm is very real. So everyone who reads this, of you ever been fan of Chester or even not, of your a decent human being just take 1 min and pray for his soul. Praying has more effect then you can even imagine!! Evil is on the rise.we must do our part.and ATLEAST pray. God bless everyone! Be strong everyone. Trust. Me, I have had depression and bipolar and have attempted it myself and woke up in the hospital. I thank God I survived because after having my life changing paranormal experience, I now know it's all real. Spiritual realm is real. Eternity is something we cant even fully understand or imagine. I fear for the souls of all the ones who took their own life... oh wow I CAN'T believe I wrote all this and totally skipped over Chris Cornell and didn't mention him. I apologize Chris R.i.p Legend! Keep rocking in the after life. I pray your soul is at peace.

Chester singing “hallelujah” at chris Cornell’s funeral was amazing (I love his version, and the Buckley version). *I prefer this version of one more light than the studio.* Chester’s scream during that guitar solo was chilling. P.s. *As someone whose attempted suicide 6 times, I think the majority of obese people are depressed.* Yes, some people’s bodies accumulate fat much faster; but also, just over eating or wanting to eat more bad food is a symptom of depression, and those people never get help. *Ensure you’re getting proper micronutrients and minerals, and exercise.*

The song was written by a family member of Chester's that passed away from cancer and he finished it for her (could be wrong) but dude all those people there at an outdoor concert not a single voice or clap while he was performing he awestruck tens of thousands of people with his grief. This wasn't all that long before he ended his own life either. After this song go back and listen to their other music and you'll hear and see the pain behind it all.

@OstravskiOstravak Chester hide a lot from his friends and family because he felt sharing would make him a burden to them. Out of everyone in the band the 2 that understood Chester the best are Mike and Rob. Mike was with Chester a lot in fact he said that the only other person he spent more time with was his wife. Rob understood Chester really well because they both were fighting every day to stay sober from drugs. Rob had a drug problem in high school before he met Mike. Mike and Chester wrote lyrics together a lot especially in Mike's home studio. They would record songs in Mike's home studio to make sure they sounded the best before recording them at NRG recording studio. Chester only shared what he wanted everyone to know about. He kept his darkest thoughts to himself. Chester shared more than what most people would but he also knew that he couldn't always keep everything hidden. It was that way back in 2005 and 2006 when all of his friends got him to go to rehab because they didn't want him to died then. Mike knew that one day the voices in Chester's head would get the better of him but he was hoping that wouldn't be for a really long time. With Chris Cornell's passing it was just the final straw that broke Chester. He suffered a lot the last 3 years of his life. In January 2015 Chester broke his right ankle and was laid up for about 3 months then the band lost a friend who worked for Warner Brothers record label to cancer. In December 2015 the former singer of Stone Temple Pilots died from a drug overdose. In 2016 Chester lost his step dad who he was close to. Then in 2017 some of the fans were saying really mean things about the song Heavy and then having Chris Cornell pass way unexpectedly was just to much for Chester to bear anymore. I don't know if Chester knew what lead to Chris passing but it was because of a medicine he was on when he shouldn't have been on the medicine since it was known to cause problems in patiences who had mental health problems. Chris's Widow found out about that problem after Chris had passed away. The doctor knew but prescribes it anyways even though there was another medicine that treated the same thing but without the psychiatric problems.

Been along on the journey for a while now and it has been a blast to see you guys jump into the realm of metal I have called home for the majority of my life. With Linkin Park their catalog is IMMENSE and all of it AMAZING! I really think you guys would enjoy the live performances of any of the Linkin Park and Jay-Z collaboration. Seeing their ability to play off each other and the genuine admiration for artists of completely different genres just JAMMING!!!! Much love, keep doing what you do and thank you for your time and content!

Unfortunately there's a thing called Depression and it's not the mood as many people confuse it... And not everybody are educated about it. It means that even if you have the best life you can feel extremely sad, to the point where you can kill yourself. That's why it's dealed with medicine and therapy. It's not a mood, or if you have a good life it's ok... Chester was smiling and having Fun with his family the day before killing himself and the family would have never thought of him doing it. His wife shared that video to let people understand how depression works and that sometimes it's unrecognizable. This performance (19 may 2017) was the day after Chris died (18 may 2017)... And Chester died 2 month later this performance, the 20th of July... That was Chris Cornell Birthday 😥😥💔

The song was sang at the tribute for Chris Cornell but in fact it was written for someone else who passed away whom the band worked with for years.

One More Light was written for a friend of the band who died from cancer. They dedicated this performance to Chris. And Mike and the guys paid homage in the music video to Chester, with home clips & back stage moments of Chester being happy. "One saved millions, but millions couldn't save him." "When life leaves you blind, Love leaves you kind."

Chester had a serious history of sexual abuse leading to a pretty serious drug addiction for a long time. He got clean but that depression and trauma takes a deep grip on your soul and is hard to get away from.

I've never heard him even a tiny bit off key, he was struggling here.. I'm not a die hard LP fan but i always loved them and Chester taking his life is something that I've never been able to deal with because LP is such a kind band and both Chester and Mike have always been so considerate and gentle ... I wish Chester had found happiness and I wish he knows how much he's still loved.

I was at that show, and in hindsight, it was one of the most important and impactful of my life. Linkin Park are the gateway band that got me into metal and music in general with their album Hybrid Theory and Chester was my first real musical role model. And at that show, my one and only time seeing them live, they played that album live in its entirety for the first time. Now, I've made 20 solo metal albums and music is my life. Who could have known that three years later Chester would be gone. RIP.

i love your first-time reactions, but i also really enjoy your analysis of songs you’ve already heard. you both take time to actually process the lyrics and think about what they could mean, and you’re damn entertaining while doing it. you should most definitely do some of linkin park’s live stuff, it’s so different than their studio stuff.

Mike wrote this song about a friend of theirs at the music label dying of cancer! When Chester sings it here for Chris the song became his basically and after Chesters death this song became Chesters memorial song! It hurts so bad and yet the whole world decided to start paying attention to those with mental problems!
