alright as one of your biggest fans, lemme say that when I saw you were going to review this, I listened to your intro, poured a drink, smoked something revelatory, and then sat outside and listened to the song first, just to remind myself. I'm a professional guitarist (pre-covid), and I grew up recording cassettes of Metallica from the radio from 10:00 to 10:15 on the east coast, called "mandatory Metallica." I would push play, pause, rewind, from about 9pm (bedtime as a kid) until 2a, just learning these nuances. I appreciate you guys understand what they're throwing down. For those of us who grew up on and turned into Tool/Deftones/'Tallica players, this was life. You guys appreciate why this gripped us kids.

People are very one-dimensional in their criticism of Lars. All they think about is technical prowess and no, he doesn't measure up to the best in that regard, but it's to blindly dismiss everything else that he is to Metallica to say that he's trash. Kirk isn't the best lead guitarist either, from a technique point of view, but he's written many of our favourite riffs and solos. James doesn't have the best vocal range or versatility, nothing close, but he's been a rock solid frontman of arguably the biggest metal band on the planet for over 35 years and that has to count for quite a lot. Metallica is a whole greater than the sum of its parts, always has been, and anyone who doesn't see that, only cares about individual virtuosity, needs to reconsider what it is they want from music.

Great reaction guys. I was late to the Metallica party, so this was a first reaction for me too.

Before discovering TOOL, this was my favorite band (from about '85 - '91) Before METALLICA, it was KISS! (Until they took off the Make-up!) I still really LOVE both KISS and METALLICA! Great reaction! There's still thousands of songs left to hear! You haven't even scratched the surface! 👨🏻‍🦲🤘🏻

I LOVE the raw production of this LP and Ride The Lightning as well...like they were recorded in somebody's basement or garage (speaking of "garage," you guys will dig "Garage Days Re-visited." They cover some songs by bands that were influential to em). You can definitely hear Dave Mustaine's writing and influence (Megadeth) on this whole LP, even though he got handed his bus ticket before it's "official" release. I've still got my bootleg copy of this LP (cassette) somewhere that I first heard in the Fall of '83 as a freshman in college. And, Lars takes a backseat to nobody...so what the dude grew up playing tennis , has some real intelligence, and doesn't "look" like he's got the guns of Glenn Danzig or somethin...dude blazed his own trail just like the rest of em did. I respect him more than any other members that Metallica has had over the years. (But, I will say that, just like Dave Mustaine got screwed over by the rest of em, Jason Newstead did as well)

Most def "Four Horsemen". BLAMO! 🤗🙌🥃 And yes fellas. This is early Metallica...I think James was still in his teens when they recorded this. This was considered too hard for radio play at first, but fans were so hard core, KNAC (a metal radio station at the time), caved and put them on heavy rotation.

You should really react to Deep Purple. A lot of people say that Led Zeppelin, black sabbath and deep purple really were the pioneers of heavy metal. Also Metallica got a lot of inspiration from Deep Purple. Some tracks I suggest: Burn Child in Time Perfect Strangers Highway Star My woman from Tokyo Space Truckin Speed King Just to name a few.

Metallica in Moscow 1991 checked in with 1.6 million people in attendance. Look it up guys. I’d say they are one of, if not the, biggest metal bands in history.

Almost impossible to cover this song but you guys should listen to the cover by the band Agent Orange. Agent Orange was one of if not the first band to mix punk and surf music in one. There version of Seek & Destroy is killer!!!

The show you are talking about was in Russia in 91. There were an estimated 1.6 MILLION people. Who could even fathom that? But that’s what it was. Keep it up brothers!!!
