The phrase "kickstart my heart" supposedly refers to Sixx's heroin overdose incident where a paramedic injected his heart with adrenaline. Sixx refers to it in his book.

The pause in the song when it slows down is apparently Sixxs heart stopping, when the tempo picks back up, the adrenalin has kicked in.

@@TheBlackQueen not corroborated by anyone but the band... so not corroborated by anyone... but the eye witnesses? Do you know what corroborated means? They've brought this up in interviews a number of times Obviously they were all so wasted who knows what they remember, but i doubt four people misremembered this. That's too far a stretch. I'd believe one guy could be wrong, i'd be very skeptical that two could be. Four is enough to send anyone to the electric chair.
@TheBlackQueen
@TheBlackQueen 2 жыл бұрын
@@rockyseverino9230 You know how I know it's bullshit? Because snorting ants is a guaranteed death sentence. There's nowhere else for the ants to go but your esophagus and lungs, and if even a few ants made it to the former, knowing how ants are under levels of stress, they will bite. If your airways are bitten by just a few ants, they can swell up enough to completely close off all oxygen from flowing. Now imagine a whole line of ants being snorted and the likelihood of death is at least tripled. But if that's not good enough, then take it from Jake E. Lee, another eye witness whom, unlike the rest of the band and Ozzy, was actually sober during the event and was adamant that, of all the stories told about that stay, the Ants one was completely made up. Ozzy snorted a tiny spider, and it luckily didn't have any life-threatening reactions, likely because it could have not gone far. To the drugged-up states of Motley's and Ozzy's minds, that could have embedded itself as a false memory of snorting ants. So yes, the ones that I choose to believe are not the fucked up as hell band members that admit they can barely remember anything, but rather the one sober guy watched the whole thing.

Mick Marrs lead guitar skills and tone on this album resulted in proper metalheads accepting Motley Crue into the metal community. Up to this album they were considered more of a hairband popular with females. But Mick blew everyone's ears out with his solo's and riffs on this album forcing even their strongest critics to agree the boys had serious chops.

I don't know about that the tone on the 1st 2 Motley albums were tasty . Shout at the Devil was heavy as hell. When they brought out Theater of Pain to show their softer side to keep Vince out of Prison is when true Metal heads turned their backs on the Crue.

When the ambulance came and got him one of the paramedics was a big motley crue fan and he said "this is nikki sixx hes not dying tonight!" Then he shoved 2 needles of adrenalin into his heart and brought him back to life.

Motley was just a fun band. Sold a bazillion albums. And were superstars back in the day. Nobody cared if they were superb musicians. Their product sold and everyone ate it up. I don't listen to the radio and change the station because the band can't play Mozart. I just want to hear a good song. I guess if AC/DC played more technical music, they probably would have made it in the music industry.

Wow. “These look like nice wholesome guys.” 💀. Motley Crüe did everything back in the day, a miracle they are alive to tell the tale. Smokey is right, Depeche Mode is new wave. They are nothing like Motley Crüe. I have seen quite a few interviews where Pete from CheVelle mentions he likes Depeche Mode. CheVelle even did a cover of the Depeche Mode song “It’s No Good”. If you want some DM suggestions, you can check out “Strangelove”, “I Feel You”, or “Personal Jesus”. Yes, they did it first, Marilyn Manson covered it.

In 1989... singer Vince Neil (born February 8, 1961) was 28 years old; guitarist Mick Mars (born either April 3rd or May 4th 1951, Mick was always mysterious about his age) was 38; bassist Nikki Sixxx was born December 11, 1958) was 31 years old; and drummer Tommy Lee was the baby of the group, born October 3, 1963, and was 26 years old. That is comedian Sam Kinison driving the limo. On April 10, 1992, Sam Kinison was in the car with his new wife of two weeks. They were driving to do a comedy show when a couple of kids were drunk driving and smashed into Sam's car. He lay on the side of the road having a conversation with God, begging God to let him stay, but then finally agreeing to go with Him and passing away. Turns out the drunk kids who hit him were fans of his. Sam Kinison led an interesting life and the way he died was a tragedy to the Entertainment world. I grew up on Motley Crue... posters, albums, history, memorabilia, everything. Saw them twice, once with replacement singer John Corabi in 1994 Anywhere There's Electricity tour with Type O Negative and Deicide opening at the Quincy, Illinois Raceways and once with Vince Neil in 2005 Carnival of Sins tour in St. Louis, Missouri. Motley Crue is bassist Nikki Sixx's band. He owns the Motley Crue name. Guitarist Mick Mars wanted to name the band "Christmas". LOL Nikki (born Frank Carlton Serafino Farrano) was inspired by the Sex Pistols and other punk bands. So Motley Crue is an 80s hair-rock version of punk rock. Nikki's mother was a backup singer for Tommy Dorsey (big band era), and his father left the family when he was young. He hated his dad so much he legally changed his name to 'Nikki Sixx'. His grandparents raised him in Idaho. His grandmother died in 1986. The song NONA that can be found on the Girls, Girls, Girls album was about her and dedicated to her. When Nikki got older and had kids of his own, he came to terms about his father and wanted to reunite with him only to find out it was way too late, his father died an alcoholic in 1986 and Nikki didn't even know about it until he (Nikki) was in his 40s. Nikki met Mick Mars (born Bob A. Deal, but legally changed his name to Mick Mars because he considered his initials B.A.D. to be bad luck) when Mick walked into his record shop and they started bickering over guitars. Mick challenged him to go to the Troubadour club and watch Mick's band Spiders & Snakes. The whole incident was forgotten until Nikki was putting the band together, and Mick's ad in the Recycler ad magazine reading, "Loud, rude, aggressive guitar player" caught Nikki's attention. When Mick walked in, Nikki was like, "Aren't you that guy from the record shop ... you're that guy.... I hated you!" From the moment Mick joined Motley, Nikki and Mick were brothers... (Mick being older than the other members by a decade give or take). Nikki is so much of a fan of his own guitarist, he has a tattoo of Mick on his leg. When Tommy Lee (born Thomas Lee Bass to an American soldier, his mother was Miss Greece 1957) joined the band, they were still shopping around for a singer (even though they had this creepy guy at the time). Drummer Tommy Lee and singer Vince Neil went to high school together. Tommy suggested he knew a singer, but at the time he was in another band. Nikki said, "Who cares? We'll go steal him out of that band." Vince Neil (born Vince Neil Wharton) was already in a band called Rockandi. They did backyard parties type of thing. They only asked him to be in the band because he was the one guy in high school with the longest hair). Tommy called Vince up and asked him to come audition. Vince blew off the first audition and didn't even show up because he already had a sure thing with Rockandi and didn't know about this other band. It took him a couple of more times before he just said "screw it" and went down to audition for Motley. Every member of Motley Crue were alcoholics and drug addicts to one extent or another. In 1989, when they were working on the Dr. Feelgood album, they'd all completed rehab. In 1987, during the Girls, Girls, Girls tour, they were a MESS of alcohol and drugs. Nikki Sixx, alone, has OD'd on heroin and/or cocaine about six times in his career as a musician and unlike Layne Staley and many others, he chose to give up drugs. He got sick of feeling sick all the time. KICKSTART MY HEART comes from the time in 1987 during the Girls, Girls, Girls tour when Nikki Sixx overdosed in a hotel room in Tokyo, Japan with Guns N' Roses opening for the band. GN'R members Slash and Duff McKagan (and I think GN'R drummer Steven Adler) was with Nikki when he OD'd. MTV News at the time even reported that Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue had died. Technically it was only for two-three minutes. The EMT in the ambulance was a Motley Crue fan and when the EMT found out it was Nikki Sixx he was working on, the EMT shot Nikki in the heart with two syringes of adrenaline and brought him back. After that, Nikki wrote KICKSTART MY HEART. It's a great Arena-Rock song. KICKSTART MY HEART can be found on the Dr. Feelgood album. Dr. Feelgood is a pretty solid album and debuted at #1 on Tommy Lee's birthday (October 3, 1989). Because producer Bob Rock got Motley Crue to number one, Lars Ulrich of Metallica asked Bob Rock to work with Metallica on the Black album. Bob Rock made the Black album successful with James Hetfield arguing, bitching, kicking and screaming the whole way. I could go on with Sam Kinison's story, or rating every album and song probably... but KZbin has a cap on comment length. I've hit it a few times discussing Layne Staley of Alice In Chains.

I mean, their interpretation is not entirely unjustified. Besides being infamous for their partying and extremely prolific drug and alcohol use, the song and the phrase "kickstart my heart" was inspired by the two full syringes of adrenaline the paramedics shot into Nikki Sixx's heart after he died for two minutes following yet another heroin OD. It's not like MC weren't doing drugs. According to Nikki himself: "Alcohol, acid, cocaine... they were just affairs. When I met heroin it was true love." To be fair, this song is mostly talking about the way Nikki and the band were trying to recapture that "high" feeling without drugs (chasing the endorphins in adrenaline junkie activities) after they started trying to live the sober life. That being said, I'm pretty sure that first line in the song isn't accidental. I would bet money that it's an intentional double.

@@1rexrex That whole "satanic panic" was definitely silly. But, to play devil's advocate (so to speak), a lot of the bands at the time (including Motley Crue) were sporting pentagrams and playing up the whole satanic image (and satan/demon imagery) as part of being "metal." I would argue that you can't really walk around in a t-shirt that says "I hate lemons" and then get mad when people who don't know you assume you hate lemons. As kids, a lot of us knew it was theater (though not every kid knew that; some took it REAL seriously) but I don't blame parents at the time for initially taking it at face value. I mean, jesus, look at how many people still believe in the illuminati nonsense just because people like Beyonce and Jay-Z and other rappers started flinging around supposed illuminati signs and imagery the same way metal bands used pentagrams back in the day. People are gullible, sure, but it also shouldn't be too surprising when a lot of the public buys what you're selling even if what you're selling is all facade meant to "look cool."

@@johnplaysgames3120 did not say they were not doing drugs, just that line was not about that. If you gonna review the lyrics you gotta listen to more than one word. We all know what assuming makes us. The song is about ADRENALINE plain and simple, yup drugs knocking you down and having to be boosted back, then all the ways adrenaline plays is what it hits about. ie. Skydiving, Motor Cross, Funny Cars........
@johnplaysgames3120
@johnplaysgames3120 2 жыл бұрын
@@theidajawho Yeah, I agreed with you that the song is mostly about adrenaline. BUT it was chasing adrenaline highs to replace the drug high after they quit the super hard addictions/partying. That's literally what the song was written about. There's no assumption there. My interpretation of the lyrics/origin of the song comes from Nikki Sixx's own memoir. The reason I commented was just because I thought it was unfair to equate the Rappers React guys to the "satanic panic" parents of the 80s for assuming the song is talking about speed when the assumption isn't that far off base. The song was literally inspired by an OD experience. MC's drug use play a part in this song, even if it's just the precursor. This isn't a song that's just randomly about fast cars and skydiving and whatnot. It's literally about chasing adrenaline highs to replace the drug highs after they had to quit doing all the crazy drugs. If you're a reactor who doesn't know the full history of Crue and when/why they stopped doing drugs, then I think - given their history - it's a fair assumption to make one line into the song. No reason to shit on them for wondering aloud if that's what's being said. A few years earlier, it would've been.

The parties in the 80 were incredible. Prob 70s too but I was too young. But songs like this really put the gas to the floor during this period. Every weekend, house parties and dance clubs all over the place. I also heard the strip clubs played Motley from time to time but I have no idea since I never went 🥴

Watching you mash/confuse Bon Jovi, Poison and MC was great. This is off the same album as Dr. Feelgood, and is one of the heavier in Crue's catalog. Take a look at some of their earlier work, like 'Looks that Kill', 'Shout at the Devil' or 'Girls, Girls, Girls'. Or even older, like 'Misunderstood' off 1994's self titled album. Done with John Corabi instead of Vince Neil it was universally panned at the time of it's release, but actually was ahead of it's time for a hard rock album of that time period.

Fun fact: the album this song is from (Dr. Feelgood) was the first album the band did where all the members Nikki, Vince, Mick and Tommy were sober for the whole production. They went to Canada and basically locked themselves in the studio. Tommy I wouldn't call the "greatest" drummer in rock. What makes him stand out was making the drummer a bigger part of the show. Check out the video for their song Wild Side. Tommy was strapped into his kit and it would rise and spin end over end sideways and the other. He eventually got to where he would do his solos on like a Rollercoaster track over the crowd and around the building. He once got stuck out over the crowd while doing his solo. There's a reason Motley was called the most dangerous band in rock n roll. There was never a drug they didn't do, a drink they didn't drink or a girl they'd pass up.

My first concert was their '91, Dr. Feelgood tour at the old North Stars arena (Met Center) where The Mall of America now stands. Tommy Lee's drum solo kit was on a track above the audience that travelled from the stage to the far side and back. I was so high from stuff being passed around, the bass drums made me nauseous, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I had a hard time liking Mötley Crüe back in the days, but they grew on me over the years. I actually prefer their faster songs like this one. Another great song they had (and that often doesn't get as much praise because it wasn't a single) is 'Red Hot', you might want to check it out. Depeche Mode is more Synthpop than New Wave. Some of my personal suggestions to check them out are 'Never Let Me Down Again', 'People Are People', 'Master and Servant', Blasphemous Rumours', 'Walking in My Shoes' and 'It's No Good'. But their catalog is a deep rabbit hole, much deeper than Mötley Crüe.

In that line they are talking about getting high on speed in a racing sense.... "Top fuel funny car's a drug for me" is the next line in the song. It's basically a metaphor for when Nikki was having his drug issues and "died". Granted.... they weren't ever sweet, wholesome young lads. Check them out during their Shout at the Devil days....

There is a thing with hair metal/glam metal: isn't a genre per se. Is more about the image or lyrics as well. Glam metal could be Pop rock (like poison) Hard Rock (like TNT, Cinderella, Motley crue) or heavy metal (like Dokken, Wasp). Also you have into glam metal the Genre "sleaze" (like Skid Row, Guns n Roses, Shotgun Messiah, Hericane Alice) they had like more street or dirty sound and image. At the same time the glam bands with an entire album of power ballads were called AOR (like Bad English)

I actually saw theses guys live. Granite it was in 2005 or 2006 I think but it was a pretty good show. Yeah basically the jist of this song is about when Nikki Sixx OD'D on heroin and they had to use adrenaline to kickstart his heart. But also they were the epitomy of the 80's which was Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll. I mean these dudes were snorting coke off chicks asses and would just pass them around. Gotta watch their documentary but also I read this while I was in jail, The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx which is a really fucking crazy but good book. Gotta check it out.✌️

Hi. This song is about energi, adrenalin and comes from the bassplayer Nikki Sixx overdose on heroin in 1987. He was actually dead for 2 min. but was brought back to life from 2 adrenalin shots by a paramedic. That inspired him to write this song. He wrote most of their songs. On Crüe,s album "Dr Feelgood" the guys had been in rehab and were all clean while making the album in Canada. You should check out their biopic on Netflix called "The Dirt", they have an amazing story and the book is even better. Songs to react to: Live Wire, Looks that kill, Shout at the Devil (check out their final tour version 2014-2015. So cool!!) Home Sweet Home, Smoking in the boys room, Wild Side, Girls Girls Girls (sexy video), Without You, Affraid, Anarchy, Primal Scream (sooo GOOD!!) Hooligans Holliday (with John Corabi) Saints of Los Angeles, The Dirt (with Mgk) They had their final tour in 2014-2015, but because of the movie the fans made them come back. They are going on tour with Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett in 2022..The Stadium Tour. Frontman: Vince Neil Leadguitarist: Mick Mars Bassplayer: Nikki Sixx Drummer: Tommy Lee

Mountain Dew was the highest sugar content mainstream soda of the early to mid-80's. Then Jolt cola came out. I think it was the first energy drink. Also, talk box and vocoder are two different things. Talk box is usually used with guitar and creates a wah type effect on the guitar sound but by using the voice and mouth shape to modify it. A vocoder is a synthesized effect.
