Yes!!! I LOVE My Dying Bride. Aaron's lyrics are poetic and his velvet voice is on another level. And their music really emphasizes/captures emotion, you can feel it in the instruments. And the imagery is always on point. They pioneered Gothic Metal; Misty forests, abandoned castles and dripping blood shining in the light of the full moon... Catherine Blake is one of my favorite songs, epic in every sense of the word ✨️

I know Aaron and Andy as we all grew up in the same little Heavy Woollen area and I also kicked around with Hammy, who set up Peaceville Records. “Along with Anathema and Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride were a forerunner of the death doom metal and gothic metal genres during the early 1990s. These bands comprise "The Peaceville Three" as all were signed to Peaceville Records at the time.” So many great songs, great call @Scott McCumber.

So happy you reacted to My Dying Bride. I've been a fan of them since the mid 90's. I love the slow mesmerising intros, a change of pace into some heavy riffs, all combined with Aarons haunting lyrics. Absolutely world class. Try Black Voyage from their album The Angel and the Dark River or A Kiss to Remember from Like God of the Sun. You wont regret it ! 🙂

I love My Dying Bride. They started out as a Death/Doom Metal band along with Anathema and Paradise Lost. All 3 bands evolved into genre defying artists who went on to influence many new bands in Extreme Metal. They are from Bradford in North Yorkshire England. My dying Bride influenced Cradle of Filth and even had the same keyboard player (Martin) at different times.

My Dying Bride is a fantastic band. They get a lot of flak for supposedly being 'over-sentimental' with their lyricism, and extreme metal purists love to diss them for being ' too soft'. I'm an extremeeeeee metal nerd, and I love them to the core.

o mannn it seems like only yesterday but it was allready in 1995 when i saw them on a festival in the netherlands called waldrock and boy did i scream my lungs out... but the best thing for me as a fan was when after the concert, aaron walked amongst the crowds just when we were rolling a nice joint and when we asked aaron if hi wanted a hit he said yeah id like that and he sat down with us.... that was literaly one of the best moments of my life smoking with the lead singer of my most favorit band at that time. that was like a michael jackson fan who meets him on the streets and drinks a milkshake with him or something like that... unforgettable :)

Now that we're getting into this branch of metal, I'd like to suggest one of my favorite bands Hamferð. They are a funeral doom band from the Faroe Islands. The vocalist Jón Aldará is so amazing, with his crushing low growls and wailing high notes that are so full of sorrow they break your heart. Not to diminish the band, everything about them is point on. I recommend the song Evst.

My Dying Bride are the best Doom Metal band!!!! Bros!!!! In order to get the best experience, you have to try reacting to their magnum opus, Turn Loose the Swans. Any song off that album will do it. If you wanna experience minor key depressive dark brilliance, try reacting to “Your River”, “The Crown of Sympathy” or “The Songless Bird”…further listening is recommended with “The Light at the End of the World”, “A Sea to Suffer In” & “The Forever People”….all joking aside, keep prescription pills, razor blades & 352 Magnums out of reach & enjoy the listen 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

2 members of this line up have gone on to form Godthrymm which is defo a band worth checking out. They hail from Bradford/Halifax in West Yorkshire. The same area as Paradise Lost who are also well worth your time. The “unholy trinity “ of doom metal was completed by Liverpool’s greatest sons. Anathema - again we’ll worth your time. I’m not a huge huge fan but I fully recognise the influence of 30+ years of them striving to perfect their craft. A band that is so ridiculously essential to the world of heavy metal. More MDB please 🤘 Another Bradford band worth your time is NEW MODEL ARMY. the song “Green and grey” is story telling at its best. Been going 40+ years - another essential band for many many people

Bit late to the party here... but the entirety of the dreadful hours" album was based around/inspired by the "Moors murders" committed by Myra Hindley and Ian Brady in the UK between 1963 and 1965 wherein they lured, sexually assaulted and murdered 5 children between the ages of 10 and 17 and subsequently buried their bodies on Saddleworth moor. To this day one of the victims bodies remains undiscovered.

For me it was always a view into an abusive household. How many kids experience this? an abusive parent and the other parent try to downplay the situation for the kid. The mother in this story try to comfort the son and says "father has gone" as if like everything is now okay. And the constant mental abuse when the father in the story says "we do not love you" And in the end the son dies. The mother could be to blame for not leaving but if you read the dynamics of abusive relationships, she is as much a victim. it's just tragedy all around. This dystopian "no way out" theme is what My dying bride does so well.

Nothing to do with MDB, but y’all mentioned Black Veil Brides as an emo band… That always struck me as a really weird label for them, and I think it’s a result of their association with bands they’ve toured with. Stylistically, I always thought they were more like glam-influenced metalcore. 🤷♂️
