When I saw them play this live in the 90s I was in the front row. Vinnie Paul's kick drum was hitting me so heavy and loud that it was actually hard to breathe. It was the best thing ever.

@@xXCaptainLouXx420 For sure. Terry Glaze was a good singer just didnt quite fit with Dimebags guitar style. I liked him in Lord Tracy. At the time I was playing in a band that was a bar touring band. We would get demos of bands albums before they came out. Maybe Demos is not the right word. We just called them that. Once Phil joined its like it was time to get serious lol.

@@Evl_1 When they got Phil, it seemed to click what they were and they all leveled-up, so to speak. Those old glam rock albums were something else. I really couldn't get into it. There were like 4 I think. With titles like I Am the Night (not bad) to Projects in the Jungle. I was so slack-jawed when I saw all this. I had been a fan since like '93 and I didn't really get to find any of that sfuff until like after the millenia. I had heard rumors and stuff up to that point. But this was a time when Marilyn Manson was that kid from Growing Pains and Ozzy snorted ants (which turned out to be true), so back then we didn't know. Unfettered internet access and curiosity finally revealed all the stuff. I was floored.

Thrash and groove metal come from the same foundation of heavy metal, especially bands like Sabbath. Pantera helped popularize it in the 90’s around the time Metallica were becoming more commercial around Black Album. Sepultura and White Zombie were others that fit the groove metal mold. In a way groove metal was like a bridge between thrash and nu metal.

"Cowboys from Hell" (1990) is Pantera's fifth studio album (if you count their independently released glam metal albums), and their debut on Atlantic Records. This album was their first commercial success. It is perceived as the official debut of the band by many fans as it has definitely left the glam metal label. This is the second album with Philip Anselmo on vocals. The song "Cowboys From Hell" and also "Cemetery Gates" were both from this album. You should also check out the song "The Sleep" from this album.

Phil Anselmo was from the New Orleans area. A good friend of mine was also friends with Phil and one night we all went to a local bar to have some drinks and Phil was telling me he was in a local band called ‘Razor White’. This was back when heavy metal was still really popular. He eventually moved to Texas and joined ‘Pantera’. If I’m not mistaken, Phil’s first album with Pantera was called ‘Power Metal’, and I loved that album! You could start to hear them transitioning from power metal into a more thrashy sound which appeared on the ‘Cowboys From Hell’ album. Anything pre cowboys from hell is sorta scrubbed from the internet and not talked about much because much of their thrash fan base do not seem to be able to understand bands can evolve. Phil’s voice is incredible on the power metal album, before all the growling started, check it out if you get a chance.

So, I'd almost say this was mid- Pantera. They have four glam metalesque albums preceding Cowboys that have some bangers on them as well. You can absolutely look at their albums, from beginning of career to the end and see an evolution of style and aggression. CFH is heavier than the prior four, Vulgar heavier than that, Far beyond et tu, and Great Southern Trendkill is a masterpiece of metal. And then you have Reinventing the Steel, which has the brutal 'Immortally Insane' on it that was featured in the second Heavy Metal movie....

Nice Acid Bath shirt! Check out Scream of the butterfly! They used to play this at the Dallas stars games and I would see Vinnie playing air drums to it in his seat! Met him there too. He was super cool!

Long time subscriber and daily listener to your channel. Thank you guys for the Pantera reactions. Absolutely my favorite metal guitarist. RIP Dime and Vinny. You guys have just begun the Pantera journey. So many greats. Please react to Medicine Man, Piss and Art of shred.

I gotta say it. One of my favourite part of your videos is watching you make him guess the name of the song with catch phrases

Y’all gotta react to Korn - Blind live at Rock AM ring 2007 with guess who…JOEY JORDISON playing drums. It’s absolutely insanity. Might just be better than the Woodstock version. Joey playing drums just adds to it. You won’t regret watching that one
