There was (is?) a long-running live Saturday night pop-music show on BBC in the UK, who traditionally tried to have the #1 charted artist each week perform. They also had a tradition of making groups lip-sync and censor lyrics, which some had flagrantly called-out (I think Sweet's drummer started "drumming" with his hands during their performance). Anyway, one week, the guest was Rage. They tried to get RATM to censor "Killing in The Name". It went about as well as you might expect.

Prophets of Rage is the supergroup, DJ Lord, Chuck D, B-Real, and all three members of Rage besides Zac. Which is kinda funny, because both supergroups formed from Rage had the entire group together just with some other vocalist, the other being Audioslave with Chris Cornell. But now that they've gotten back together with Zac, Prophets of Rage is disbanded. I heard this story about this song from Tom Morello's show on satellite radio. This song was originally just an instrumental that they used to check their sound set up, but when they were recording their first album, Zac came in and said that he wanted to do some lyrics over it. So they're jamming out while he's freestyling this, and a record label rep comes in to watch them. And Zac is screaming "FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME" while looking straight into the mans face. Once they finished the song, the guy was just like "So uh... this is the direction we're going in?"
@davidrasberry72614 жыл бұрын
The most amazing aspect of this song is that it speaks up against the abuse of power. I am of Polish ancestry and Poland is known to have civil rights abuses perpetrated throughout their country's history. The Polish can relate to what is happening to the black population in America. The Polish were not even allowed to teach their nation's history. If they did they had a high probability of being arrested and thrown into the labor camps. Americans can't even imagine what it is like to be subjected to oppression of that level. I am so proud to be an American, because we live in this land of freedom. Freedom isn't free so I never forget the price of freedom. All 3 of my great uncles on my mother's side of the family died in World War 2. I feel that America will pull through these difficult times. Again abuse of power is nothing new. Abuse of power has existed since ancient times. I also feel that just like the Polish reconciled with their enemies it is possible for all peoples to have peace. I just hope that the black and white communities will learn from their mistakes. I know that wounds will always exist, but we can't live in the past. Keep up the hard work guys and keep the videos coming.

"Bulls on Parade"? It's not bad, but it's some of their later work but does not compare to tracks such as "Bullet in the head", "Bombtrack" and "Know your enemy" (featuring a 40 second solo by Maynard from Tool) is by far their best work! They were pretty burned out by the time they dropped "Evil Empire" their sophomore effort! (Still worth a listen, but not before the tracks I named!)"Wake Up" is another great stand out track, although I can't remember if it's off their first or second and final "Evil Empire" Record! You burn twice as bright, but half as long! (And every cop in America hated this band and made their lives untenable!)

Evil Empire definitely had some high points, but I agree it's not as good as their first album. Their third one, The Battle of Los Angeles, is fantastic.
