Slipknot's visual get-up resonated with a lot of alienated kids experiences. It was like, this is fuckin banging music, and this is how I feel as a shy/anxious/abused/neglected/otherwise troubled youth. They became huge over time, but I think bands like them and Korn tapped into this and gave a voice to it in their music.

My favorites scream by Corey Taylor is the final "Won't let this build up inside of me"... I've screamed that scream a thousand times by now, until I've almost passed out a dozen times... A lot of people were critical or this song and the sequel when they came out, but they are part of the vital reason I fell in love with this band.

Slipknot officially formed in September 1995, but existed before that under different names. If you want to check out pre-Corey Slipknot, there's a whole album with original vocalist Anders Colsefni called 'Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.' that was released on Halloween 1996. A highlight of that release is the song 'Do Nothing/Bitchslap', which combines elements of death metal, disco, and jazz!

Fun fact about this album. It's the only Slipknot album without a Parental Advisory. Corey did this to show critics he didn't need to curse to write the lyrics .
