One thing I love about Corey's voice is he manages to sound like someone legitimately losing his mind, like few other metal artists I actually hear the pain in his voice come through in the growl vocals.

Slipknot's visual get-up resonated with a lot of alienated kids experiences. It was like, this is fuckin banging music, and this is how I feel as a shy/anxious/abused/neglected/otherwise troubled youth. They became huge over time, but I think bands like them and Korn tapped into this and gave a voice to it in their music.

Yes, it's a relationship song. Vermilion (as stated) is a shade of red and Corey's first wife was called Scarlett. See what Corey did there? As subtle as a high five to the face 🖐️😳😠😡🤬

My favorites scream by Corey Taylor is the final "Won't let this build up inside of me"... I've screamed that scream a thousand times by now, until I've almost passed out a dozen times... A lot of people were critical or this song and the sequel when they came out, but they are part of the vital reason I fell in love with this band.

Before Corey Taylor, the lead singer was Anders Colsefni, and just had 1 record (few copies in Iowa) Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, and that sound a little diferent but has a few song of the first one with Corey Taylor as a lead singer, 3 years later.

08/24/1997 at the Safari club was Coreys first show with just face paint. After you get far enough into their discography you will be entertained. Yall should watch some of their documentaries to truly understand how crazy the industry hated them and trued to make them fail but it only fueled them to be the monster they are today.

Slipknot officially formed in September 1995, but existed before that under different names. If you want to check out pre-Corey Slipknot, there's a whole album with original vocalist Anders Colsefni called 'Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.' that was released on Halloween 1996. A highlight of that release is the song 'Do Nothing/Bitchslap', which combines elements of death metal, disco, and jazz!

If you want to hear pre-Corey Slipknot you have to listen to the album Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. it's a strange one compared to the rest of their work, but if you want to get a feel for how the band was before him really quick, just turn on the song Do Nothing/Bitchslap. Slipknot's original vocalist was named Anders Colsefini. He had a very rough and raw vocal style. Check out the homemade album called Mate Feed Kill Repeat where it features the original incarnation of slipknot.

Fun fact about this album. It's the only Slipknot album without a Parental Advisory. Corey did this to show critics he didn't need to curse to write the lyrics . I highly suggest checking out Bert Kreischer's podcast with Corey Taylor. Please check out Tech N9ne - Wither featuring Corey. Also Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat was their first album released in 1996. One other thing I really like about Corey's voice is he sings with baritone. For some reason it seems like 95% of the metal vocalists from like 2010 on have very whiney singing voices. I can only take so much of that kind of voice.

His other band Stone Sour has some great stuff also and shows another side of Corey. Also, a lot of his live performances are great and has done a lot of covers in genres he does not typically do.
