Such a great band, Michael was a guitar genius from such a young age. Never saw him with U.F.O. but did with MSG and in this you can definitely hear both his own talent and the influence he had on Randy Rhodes. U.F.O. Lost a couple of members this last year, RIP. 'Strangers In the Night' is one of my favourite live albums, ever. Michael Schenker was a huge influence on English guitarists at the end of the '70s (despite being German!). I was one of those. The tragedy is, this album was a huge success but Schenker left soon after the release because of bad dynamics in the band. He is known for his beautiful melodic solos. He played on one Scorpions album (his brother Rudolf is the rhythm guitarist for them). He has since played in the Michael Schenker Group (MSG). Incidentally, Michael Schenker still tours and plays this song. He is, if anything, even better than this now. See him if you can! He turned down many opportunities to join bigger outfits, like Ozzy's. He is a very enigmatic individual. I finally met him in 2018.

He is German and no one in the band knew German and he didnt know English when they came up with most of the hits of UFO. I remember seeing them and he was just off to the side in one spot and never looked up and blew the coliseum apart in Syracuse. They had a guitarist called Mick Bolton originally, then two guys who never made it onto a UFO album, Larry Wallis, then Bernie Marsden. Marsden wasn't allowed into Germany, where they were about to tour, so they borrowed Schenker from the band they were touring with, the Scorpions. His first show with them was a tv broadcast, he'd only been shown the songs a few hours earlier, by four guys who couldn't speak German, and Schenker being unable to speak English.

I don't mess with trying to get reactors to do anything. UFO had a large fan base but most of us were happy to have them to ourselves. Michael Shenker is one of the most influential guitarists because of his work on Strangers In The Night. To this day, for my money, he's the best who has ever lived at playing melodic lead guitar and nobody has ever transitioned runs like he did. He goes from one lead into another into another seamlessly. It's more a shifting of gears throughout a lead instead of stopping one pattern and starting another.

The first song I Heard by UFO was “Too Hot to Handle “ off of Lights Out in 1977 and was hooked . Bought that album , Obsession and Strangers in the Night live album . Bought their back catalog from the early years which is great but I will say lights out and Obsession are the two best studio produced albums with Schenker i.m.o. Schenker left and they replaced him with Paul Chapman , who , I find to be an incredible guitarist as well (maybe not the virtuoso Schenker was ) but I love the four albums he was on and Mechanix and The Wild Willing and the Innocent are incredible albums Anybody that followed rock back then probably is aware of UFO and even love them all my friends did and have no idea why they weren’t bigger. There are probably numerous reasons Schenker leaving etc. one that I’ve heard is chrysalis, their record label, did not promote them and promoted a band called “ The Baby’s “more. Interesting theory and may have some truth if you listen to a song off Obsession called “Ain’t no baby” which is supposedly the genesis of the song
