Yep, UFO was a well-established Space Rock band at the time they heard his work on Scorpions first album, Lonesome Crow, in 1972, and asked him to join them. He joined them, creating UFO’s golden age, 1974-9. Scorpions went on, replacing him with Uli Roth, creating their first golden age, also 1974-9. I recently asked my dad what bands he listened to from the 70s/80s that weren't really well remembered or well known in the mainstream, whether I'd heard them when I was a kid with him and forgotten, or never heard them because he listened to them before I was really around. I just wanted to hear the real shit the hardcores listened to. I always listened to fringe offshoot genres & punk rock, alternative stuff after the grunge era, lesser known nu metal bands, etc., growing up. This was the first band he thought of. I remember them from being a kid, but mostly from him having the cassettes. They're really pretty good for an era I'm not real big on in rock - 70s to mid 80s, and like a lot of more modern music, I really wonder why they weren't one of the super huge bands of the time. They were known, but not huge. They were definitely creative for the time. Listening to them definitely feels like discovering (or kind of rediscovering in my case, as I was so young when he used to play them) the vibe of the era for real. You can feel the weight of the moment in rock & roll in one of it's most expansive & influential periods. You can feel it taking you into a new era, but we have the foresight now of seeing where it was going to take us, which makes it kind of cooler. You can hear the building blocks toward the iconic artists & songs of the mid 70's through early 90's. Not really a big live album person, but that live album everyone always mentions, "Strangers In The Night", is pretty electric. Michael Schenker definitely goes off.

UFO is one of those bands that actually sound better live. "Strangers In The Night" is one of them best live albums. A must listen.

Wooooow. I’ve been asking for that reaction since 2018! UFO is one of the most underrated bands ever. “Lights Out” would be amazing as well!

You guys should listen to "Love to Love", a rock ballad with a killer guitar solo ending.

Michael’s second best UFO solo, behind this one.

Phenomenon came out when I was 14. I was instantly hooked and remain a huge fan of UFO and especially Mr Schenker all these years. I was at the Chicago show were the Strangers in the Night was recorded. Michael influenced many guitarists over the years, his mix of feel and chops are really incredible. I’d suggest checking out the track l’m a Loser from No Heavy Petting

good call, 'I'm a Loser' is one of the greatest tracks ever.

Been a fan for a while. You guys decide to come back to these guys, Space Child is quite possible the most beautiful song I think I've ever heard. Pulled me out of some rough times years back and still gives me chills every time without fail.

Dude, never thought I'd see y'all get to UFO! Do yourselves a favor and check out SPACE CHILD by UFO off the same album, their best song, very Pink Floyd/Robin Trower-esque.
@kwietman3 жыл бұрын
And now they need to do Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs."

Seeing this pop up in my Patreon alerts made me SO HAPPY. Michael Schenker is a beast. Y’all should really check out Love to Love by UFO. It’s probably their magnum opus. Just make sure you listen to the 2008 remaster as the mix is considerably more clear and even.
@Golfadddict3 жыл бұрын
Schenker's soloing was on another level on the light out live album. Sooo much better than the studio track.

I'm so glad you hear the beauty of Michael Schenker. James Hetfield and Kirk Hammit and Dave Mustaine idolized Michael Schenker. They had his poster up on their walls back in the day. I fell in love with UFO when I was 13... because of the guitarist...I'm 56 today and still love Michael Schenker always and forever...o and he is the younger brother of Rudy Schenker of the Scorpions

About the technology thing Joe walsh (eagles’ guitarist) once said that if they had computers, they will be still recording the Hotel California solo. What you said is on point.
