this song was wrote for the memory of his late father. Jari had tuberculosis when he did his military service and had a portion of his lung resected . Wintersun is by far one of the most if not the most appreciated bands because of the hard time they have to craft their music and yet bring to existence epic songs like this

I love this song because it so perfectly expresses my own experience with depression. Especially "the weight of the world quietly crushed the dying light". It's that feeling of being overwhelmed as if the weight of the whole world is on your shoulders. Even putting one foot in front of the other takes a tremendous force of will, and eventually you just can't do it anymore and retreat within yourself. There's also the feeling of being lost, unable to return "home", home to a place where you were happy, to a time when you did not suffer so. You try to replace your steps but you lose the trail; they have been obscured by the freshly fallen snow of time. And the sheer anguish in his voice is just...Wow.

Absolutely the way I feel about this song too. The line that always hits me is "am I the only one awake?". I just feel that line perfectly sums up the kind of loneliness that depression brings.

Guys, I loved this. Loneliness is such a special song for me. Especially the chorus is a masterpiece. I love how Hollywood gets excited from the get go and started to sing along on his first listen. And Smokey, you can tell he just understánds this art. The way you see him silently react to the small nuances that make this song show that. Keep up the good work, guys! Loved this because you really listened to this song and all its subtle nuances.❤If you enjoyed "Loneliness" by Wintersun, you would also love "Pale Morning Star" by Insomnium (official lyric video) and "Endlessness" by Nightwish (official lyric video). This truly is the trilogy of the saddest, most beautiful songs! Insane male vocalists and masterful instrumentation. Music for the deep depths of soul!

Jari wrote this after his dad died,he went on.a cabin in the finnisch forest to deal with his lost and then wrote this song You feel the devastation and grief ,when i first listen to this song it trow me back to the time i lost my father(i recordnice the pain) Wintersun is defenitly worth checking out more of there songs

At first I was thinking this is kinda like creepy Christmas music😂 but they got serious when the vocals started. The singer has range and skill! Often I was reminded of Muse while listening but also Mannheim Steamroller-remember that from way back when???😂 they may still be around, idk.
