In this video I update you on my progress with the RC build. I have now officially name the car Raptor (Raptor I). One of the challenges I've faced for the past couple of weeks is configuring a steering system. I have decided to implement a bell crank steering system.

Hi, great project. Working on a similar project myself, but using more readily parts from other rc cars, instead of printing all pieces. One thing I would suggest is that you angle the steering axle reawards to obtain self alignment. All cars have it too, and make your car steer straight forward when you're not holding the steering wheel. Just the same as bicycles and motorcycles, they also have an reaward steering angle. Great project 👌

Thanks for the comment! Check out my more recent videos, I am working on version 2 of this car which includes a lot of your suggestions :)

@@thehardwareguy yes, I realized that when I saw your other videos and that you already had implemented caster angle. Very cool project!

Great video! I love seeing when you post a video. Currently I'm trying to design a working rc tow truck with boom and wheel lift in fusion 360.

I've been watching the evolution of your design and if interested I could help. My background in the RC industry goes back to 1975. I was part of a group of guys that created the RC car industry in the USA. However, this is not about me, it is to offer my help if you are up to it. One of the most difficult parts of a car design is suspension and steering geometry. Just by looking @ your design you will probably have an issue with gyroscopic precession, high unsprung mass and totque...not to mention many others. I'm telling you this in a constructive manner. From your comments I can tell that you are creating a group of followers...that is great! Feel free to reach me if you are interested. Great work and good luck!!!

Hi man! Thank you for the constructive feedback. I certainly appreciate input from anyone with experience! I share the same concerns as you do, but the beauty of 3D printing is rapid prototyping! My goal is to get something built so I can physically identify and learn from the problems! I have no doubt there will be issues as it’s my first time designing anything mechanical on this scale!

While your unsprung weight is high, if you can use torque vectoring. That could overcome the high unsprung negative.

I was wandering should the horn of (steering) servo lean toward the back of vehicle, so it would match the lean on bell crank arm/horn? In other words the bell cranks horn is not in 90 degree angle and there fore neighter should the servo horn be in 90 degree angle. This is just a thougth. I am wondering the stearing geometry of my RC car Rustler and I was baffled why the servo horn is not at 90 degree angle to the stearing linkage. It seems to adapt the deviation on bell crank arm/horn. Edit/PS: Try to get hands on picture of chassis assemply of Traxxas Rustler 4x4 and front assemply. I think that is the best way to try visualise what I am talking about.

Great work!!! Just one question all the animation was done within Fusion, right?

Hello man, I found your channel from Instagram and as an engineering student, I love your Raptor 1 project :) I visited your website and stuff but I couldn't find this project there, I really like to use cads from this project, if you make it available and provide some links (paid or free version). I hope you post more videos and projects like that! Have a good day :)
