There is still so much to do on it. I guess I like long term projects. Looking forward to getting some more things done on it.

I did 2 vehicles(mine and a friends) with Raptor liner. His was one of the blues they offer and mine was color matched to the truck(also a blue). They both turned out amazing. Now, 2 years later - both are fading terribly on the hoods and roofs. Both vehicles are outside 24/7 in the Florida sun and heat. Right after I did my truck, I treated the faded plastics(handles , emblems etc) with chemguys tire shine stuff. Its like an oil. Unfortunately, after some rain, the treated plastic areas whicked oil in to the raptor liner. There were noticeable "stains" under all the handles and it was permanent. I did everything to try and remove the oil but it was soaked in to the raptor. These oil drip areas always repelled water and stayed a nice original blue like the day we raptored it 2 years ago. I thought about trying a clearcoat over the whole truck to remedy the fading, but I figured it wouldn't stick in the contaminated oil areas and another can of worms would erupt. So...I oiled the whole truck with the same stuff I did the handles with 2 years. It wasn't easy, but it now looks amazing again and honestly even better than the day it was done. It fixed the fade and the oil stains. Time will tell whether or not I messed up, but hopefully it's a permanent fix. I get compliments on this old 04 F150 almost every time I take it out. I love the look of it. I rarely have to wash it and even if I do I can just hit it with a hose and everything basically rinses right off - especially after the oil treatment. BOTTOM LINE- IT FADES at least in FL. but is chemguys tire shine oil a fix?? Ok - time for the experts to bash me - I have thick skin!

Interesting. I have not noticed any fading that I can see. Maybe the grey hides it more. My powdercoating has faded pretty bad. Especially the winch.

Glad to see your post. Also In the South here, and also planned to go blue. How's it holding up now? How did you apply the oil? Id love to see some pics of it.
@thecommentor83842 ай бұрын
I’m thinking about doing this as my paint is in poor condition after removing a sun baked vinyl wrap (never again). I too live in a harsh environment where the sun and heat destroy everything. The fading is what puts me off. It’s been 5 months, how’s it looking now?
@jim-kj2wh2 ай бұрын
@southseapirate1 unfortunately it both trucks faded pretty badly. Oil thing didn't hold up very good on the hood. Sides are still holding oil but I'm getting some streaking now. Next attempt to remedy will be to try and get this oil off and put a 2k clear on it. I did a 2k satin black paint and 2k satin clear over the raptor on the roof and looks amazing. I never did oil the roof so adhesion wasnt a concern. This has become an experimental truck I guess.
@jim-kj2wh2 ай бұрын
@thecommentor8384 @southseapirate1 i wouldn't recommend the oil. That was a desperate attempt to save it. I only did that because of the "oil " that wicked down from the handles. The oil on the hood seems to be gone now but the sides still hold oil but are now showing more streaks under drip areas like the handles and mirrors. If I were to do it all over again, I would raptor and put a clear coat over it. I'm no expert though. I'm desperate to save my raptor liner because it does look nice when it was fresh and not faded.

Watching this series so to speak, funny you mention how you need to grind that crack out, you said the same thing 4 years ago. But over all it held up well. Guess this is what I am putting on the paintable fender flares on my Gladiator.

Cool to see the wj again and still looks great. Can't believe it's been five years. Has it gotten much use over those years?

it is hard to believe it was pre-rona. It has seen quite a few state. Easy wheeling and exploring with lots of camping. Nothing hardcore.

Not as much as I want to. The next big thing I need to do is pull the dash for heater core and broken blend doors before the hot summer kicks in. Always something.

@@SpiralDesignWorks yikes, can't say I envy you on that one. Never met an easy heater core. Did you ever have anything positive come from that rear bump tire mount? I have looked high and low for a set up like that 🤷🏻♂️

I did my front and rear bumpers on my Ram. Needs some touch up. Be nice if you could use a roller raptor to touch up instead of removing bumpers or taping off.

try a small brush for touch up and dab it on.

This looks amazing should I prime my jeep cherokee first before applying raptor
@SpiralDesignWorks5 ай бұрын
yes always. You need to prep the surface just like any other paint or coating. Sand, prime etc. I have a few videos in the build series of the fender mods and paint prep, the application of the color and black raptor. good luck on your project.

Did you use Raptor on the door handles? How far was the overlap into the door jam?
@SpiralDesignWorks10 ай бұрын
Yes I did a complete color change. so all the inside jams, under hood, everything got sprayed. I used the adjustable tip sprayer for all those areas and the handles and some trim and bumpers. The main body got the undercoat sprayer for the thick texture. If you look back in my videos there are a few of the prep and spraying.

@@SpiralDesignWorks is it a custom mix or is the tint 2019 chrysler ceramic grey? I really like the color. I custom mixed mine myself and it would be hard to duplicate. Mine is also about 5years old but it is faded and needs repainted. My truck is parked outside in tucson arizona so maybe that is why it is fading.
