He came out great, the rust at the end was a brilliant choice. The decals ended up looking really clean and flush. Your edge highlighting is great, I need to practice a lot more, mine often comes out a little messy. Look forward to the next one!

Edge highlighting is definitely hard to do, theory/tutorials can only provide so much and I was struggling at it for quite some time. I recommend trying the first method I show, where you run along the edge with the side of the brush. That's a lot easier, and if you can get the paint behaving nicely like that, it's only a single step away from using the tip for the same thing.

It looks so sick. I don’t even like space marines but after seeing yours I’m like shawww maybe I’ll get some too 😂 And your painting technique makes the armour look so smooth - chalky transitions are something I struggle with.

I still struggle with that chalky finish, my homemade wet palette helped a lot though - just the tiny bit of moisture that gets added seems to be enough.

really cool to see you doing some kitbashing, your videos are allready great but the extra effort really takes it to the next level :D

Thanks. I want to try and bring the style of the chapter into it, but for those without enough info it's a bit difficult.

@@InfernalManufactorum I've had similar issues, sometimes all you really have to go off of is thier founding date (can incorporate some specific marks of armour or campain markings) or just fall back on their parent chapter to a degree.

That's the plan, though with the Primaris the older stuff is becoming more and more questionable. I'm not sure whether I should stick with the current lore examples of older mark helmets, in that they use the Mk X helmet but with features from earlier marks, or whether I should overlook the Mk X helmet frame and use older marks. You can tell the Mk X frame by the ear shrouds, and by the plugs at the back of the helmet - older marks typically have flat topped ears and no plugs. The vent along the top of the helmet is another non-Mk VI feature. I don't have the modelling skills to make custom helmets so if I do stick with the Mk X I'm limited to Corvus and Errant (for some reason) conversions.

@@InfernalManufactorum I think the older the chapter (before primaris founding's) the more justification for using older armour pieces, or even using firstborn models in general. There's lots of 3d files out there for the older stuff. I'm personally using Tortuga bay stuff for most of my needs, but for channel painting fodder stuff I think just sticking to printing stuff that's otherwise unavailable would be fine :]

Yeah I'll do some mix and matching with the older chapters. Ultima Founding should be pure Mk X but anything earlier is probably fair game. Tortuga Bay is really good, I have a fair amount of their stuff built up for 30K. I don't want to print the old 'heroic' scale though, so I'll have to figure something out if I want to get those older marks, if only TB offered stls, they're very expensive otherwise.

would love to know the name of the stl for the mk6 helmets!
