Heated seats,memory adjustments,air ride suspension, power trunk pull down,early versions of twilight sentinel,shot glasses ,a makeup box,air-conditioning and a bunch of other stuff that wasn't available in 57. Cadillac was way ahead of themselves

When Cadillac still cared about being "the standard of the world"

Okay this Cadillac seriously could hold its own with a Lincoln and other luxury cars of its day. To have the standard extras that came with the interior, shot glasses, tissue dispenser, etc. Blue ribbon award quality describes this Eldorado.

Cost more than a Rolls this year! $13,000 give or take! Grampa bought a 58 new. Grandma had a 57 Biarritz with dual quads. Grampa traded the 58 for a 57 because he didn't like the tri-power as much as the duals! :) Dad had a 60 Brougham 101 made! In 59, one of the 100 made fell into the water at the dock being unloaded from the ship, so in 60 Pininfarina made-shipped 101 to make up the loss! Cool cars.

That is awesome about your family owning some of these beautiful automobiles! I wonder if they ever tried to or retrieve the one that fell into the water?

@@willyboy6126, Yeah, I've often wondered the same thing! You would thinkso!, and at the dock, they're unloading it would be right there huh!? Now this is what i think could have happened,...it never hit the water! Lol! You see, dock workers unions were controlled by the mafia! Soo,...Vito says "oh, i think they've just 'lost' one.., and everyone says "right boss!". Hah!

You would have to wonder if Lincoln didn't take a very close look at this model with its center-opening doors as they began designing what would become the 1961 Continental.

The 57-58 Broughams were MAGNIFICENT... But the "forgotten" 59-60 Eldo Broughams were pretty kool, too! On the 57/8's, it's a wonder to me that nobody every polished-out the roof on one of them... It'd absolutely wreck the car, but how cool would a "chrome" top be?😉 I could just see it now... BLINDING everyone on the road.

Lincoln has suicide doors before Cadillac did on their 1950 models. However, Cadillac did it better!

Lincoln had suicide doors dating back to the thirties through he early fifties.

Rick Loera indeed. A lot of cars had Suicide doors in the 30s. Ford comes to mind in particular due to the more low price suicide door cars. The Ford V8 Sedan (Bonnie and Clyde’s) had front Suicides.

Hakeem Mulholland - The '53 Eldorado is great. All Eldorado's are wonderfully appointed cars. I have to differ with you on the '57 model. To me, it's the worst and/or least attractive of all 50's Cadillacs.

And I'm sure that wasn't the first use of them either. Lots of fancy cars in the '30s had them too. Jay Leno's 1909 Baker Electric has suicide doors, and in 1909 a lot of cars were still open body with no doors at all so it had to be one of the first.
@DougCameraMan

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of the 1961- 1970' Lincoln Continental. Cadillac's 1935 model had "suicide" rear doors, too.

Weren't some 1960 chassis sent to Italy for bodies?
@vividwatch47
@vividwatch47 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and they were bodied by Pininfarina in order to cut costs because Cadillac lost at least $10,000.00 on each model sold (as did t=its competition the Continental Mk, II) in the previous years. Rumor has it that when Pininfarina got word that Cadillac was going to discontinue production of the Eldorado Brougham the workers took the chassis of the last car and dumped it in the Turin River!

@@vividwatch47 my best friends family owns a 1960 Eldo Brougham... Even though it looks MUCH like a '59 at first glance, it's so Incredibly different that I don't blame the body workers at Farina for pushing that chassis over the side... I understand! If anyone interested ever has the opportunity to really look over a 57-58 Eldo Brougham, the bodies, even though virtually hand-built, are (in my opinion) of 100% more professionally constructed, than those that were later built in Italy... And even those are beautifully constructed (EXCEPT a little heavy-handed on the lead filler, etc)... Either way... All four years were MAGNIFICENT cars... So much more interesting and reliable than anything available today.

A beautiful car, but it lost money.
@oldnick4707
@oldnick4707 4 жыл бұрын
It wasnt really expected t make money, rather it was created to further the mystique of the Cadillac brand, nothing more. Marilyn Munroe owned one as with other celebrities etc.. As they were of extremely limited production, if you weren't 'well known', you were only allowed to buy one if you were a very frequent purchaser. Thats how my grandfather was offered one. He bought one sight unseen in a beautiful champagne color in 58', then traded it in for a 57' and had it painted the same beautiful color. :)
