Rare: 1970 Chevrolet Corvette L46 4-Speed Manual Convertible with 27K Original Miles!

The car left the factory finished in Donnybrooke Green (982), and was repainted in 2002.
Features include a retractable black convertible top, a vinyl-covered removable hardtop, pop-up headlights, twin front grilles, fender vents, quadruple taillights, and dual rectangular exhaust outlets.

Flaws: Paint is very nice, however some scratches on rear deck lid, radio comes on but no sound, no headliner on black vinyl hardtop, clock works on and off, carpet is faded, overall the car is an 8.4

Back in 1982 I was 14 when my older brother bought a ‘70 L46 four speed. That’s the time I fell in love with chrome bumper C3s. Donnybrook green and War Bonnet yellow are my favorite colors.

I bought my wife her birth year Corvette, a 1970 454 manual with ac. Its original color was Donnybrook Green, but was airbrushed in 1983 with a Star Wars theme. The pain is chipping in a few places, but we love the look. We are trying to find a place in FL that can correct the paint issues. If not, it's a survivor, a great looking survivor. I tell my wife that the squeaks, lack of today's ac, lack of today's handling etc are because of old technology. Our car is the opposite of yours, it is loud and I love it!

Yes, the vacuum hose kits on those vettes are uniques and cool....those hose system works not only the headlights and wipers, but the air venting, defrost and also feeds air into the intake for the air/fuel mix to the motor. An old, leaky vacuum system will make your the motor rum too rich. My dad passed away January...... I have his 70 L-46......Donnybrook green. We are irish and the color name refers to a neighborhood inb Dublin Ireland which was famous for bar brawls and fights. Their rep came to America during immigration and we know the term as a "good ol fashioned Donnybrook broke out", a bar fight. Two guys opened a road course in MN back in the 60's. It was such a wild road course that they named it Donnybrook Raceway and it was shut down after only a few years for safety concerns. The track was updated and reopened in the 70's with a new name.

The switches are manual override for the headlight doors so that you can replace headlights and replace windshield wipers. First open up the wiper door, using one of the pull vacuum switch below the steering column then rotate the round knob looking switch to turn on, and turn off the wipers in a position where you can put new wiper blades.

As well, there were occasions where increased airflow was needed to maintain acceptable cooling, so manually raised headlights (off) was enabled to allow more underhood air flow which otherwise was somewhat restricting same w/headlights in the closed position.

Why is it so rare? I have a 71 convertible, more bells whistles then you got electric windows power steering power brakes factory air, l don’t think it’s rare same color convertible. How come we didn’t see the engine bay I would like to see the smog pump.

This the switches under the steering column are for opening the headlights when you're washing it without turn on the lights and to open the the wiper blades so you can wash under there

Driving barefoot? 😀 Back in the day on my 72 the oil gage line broke and shot oil inside the car and all over my carpets. Had to rip them out and still remember how hot that fiberglass floor was with no insulation or carpet. These cars were always an adventure! 😎

That knurled dial below the dash between the outboard up/down pull switches is a wiper stop switch whereby you can park/stop the wipers in place on the windshield, to enable changing the blades. So we are to just assume that the young lady behind the wheel is a more knowledgeable gearhead than the guy narrating the video?.....as that's obviously the case here.....seems he just fell off the turnip truck. Sophie needs to be using her turn signals before she gets pulled over. That 2-year-only 350/350 is really the ideal small block motivator. SUCH an exceptionally fine roadster...only fault (in my book) is that non-body color auxiliary top. This was a virtual STEAL @ 65k on BaT!

It's not low geared. It's actually pretty tall for first gear. Mustangs would always kick my ass off the line .1st hits 50mph You can get to 85 mph in 2nd. But you can only get to 125 and 4th. It's actually almost identical to my Cayman manual transmission Mine had manual breaks and no air conditioning. .

Two different 4-speeds were available. Most had the wide ratio (2.52 low) M20 and this came with the 3.36 axle. If you did not order air conditioning you could also get a 3.55. There was also a close ratio (2.20 low) M21 and it came with a 3.70 with 4.11 optional. No air conditioning was available with the M21. This car sounds pretty tame so I'm going with it having the more common M20 and 3.36 setup which was also the same combo used on the base 300hp engine.

@@thud9797 don't know my gear ratios. It was a no AC, no Power Assist brakes model. First went about 50mp , 2nd almost 90. But top speed was 125.. My motor was a 4 bolt main. Balanced, blueprinted. About 350 HP and redline a bit higher than stock
