Anyone buying a serious unit needs to call this dude. Fly him in for a day and make sure you know what is what. Nothing against sellers. Most are straight shooters in my opinion. There are just so many ways to make a mistake when making an assessment. Big investment. Make the call if buying one of these things.

Welcome back Patrick, hope all is well. My favorite car in the world. Nothing designed better for power, looks and handling in one package. I'd take a 70 ss 396 and be happy, a 72" with a nice 350 is the closet I got so far. One day. For the record, I'm totally against this "green energy" panic, big lie.

Hey man, american muscle rules, but you don't get stoked on the amount of instant power and torque electric is able to deliver? Like, I love the chop of a V8, but I'm equally excited at the squeal/whine of an electric motor as it shreds the rubber of a tire! That being said, these machines are works of art and i commend the folks that keep these masterpieces in shape, they're the dream of motorheads all around!

The '70 Chevelle was a big part of my youth. My dad bought a Green Mist '70 Malibu brand new, and then years later I had my own '70 Malibu in Black Cherry, so I've always been kinda partial to those two colors, along with Autumn Gold. But seeing this one in Gobi Beige is really unique (in a good way) and the gold interior makes it a stand out. The fact that it's an LS6 is the icing on the cake (although I would have opted for the gauge package and a 4-speed). I've seen plenty of SS's in Cranberry Red, Fathom Blue and Tuxedo Black, but never in Gobi Beige - until now!

I ordered and bought a 69 Nova SS in gold (don't remember what the name of the gold was). I did order the 3:31 axle and, as it turned out, was a good decision since a lower axle would have made my 14 highway mpg impossible. This SS 454's 3:31 ratio was really a sensible choice, this being a big block car, as it would have taxed its LS6 at constant highway speeds.

I had a guy I worked with who got ls6 same color with no stripes, in high school. Same interior and column shift. There was a solid black 70 that sat in a driveway off the highway in a little town. Solid black original paint so it was interesting. I was always going to stop and look. The guy I worked with stopped and looked. It was a SS 454. He knocked on the door and asked the lady if it was for sale. She said if you want it today is the day. $500.00 (1983$) he said I’ll be right back. Paid and popped the hood. LS6. So he sold it to a guy from Chicago. Tool maker I believe. If you ever see her out there.

That was a great review, thank you Patrick. One possibility is that the SS was ordered by a dealer stripped down without any options except for the LS6 package so they could have the car on the floor for perspective buyers. Oh, you don't like the bench seat? We can add buckets. Don't like column shift, we can add floor shift. Don't like the minimal gauge package, we can add a tach and clock. Color? it comes in red. End of year discount the car if need be. I've have a 70 El Camino SS, don't know if it's an original or clone, no docs. It's red now , but hints that it was Gobi beige originally. Thanks Patrick, I'm going to drop the tank to see if I can find a treasure.

Another very informative tutorial video, I enjoy your expertise and knowledge of little nuances typical of the assembly plants that built these magnificent cars. Hey Patrick I didn't notice on the build sheet this was noted as a customer order so would you assume it was a dealer ordered unit? Very interesting the person that ordered it wanted it to look cool and go fairly fast (but not that quick off the line) but he didn't care about anything extra. And I'm guessing not many people picked that color either. I'd be all over the black or red with stripes if I was buying one back in the day. With gauges and bucket seats and that very cool looking console shifter. Just really interesting, I bet there aren't too many of these with this combination.

@thud979710 ай бұрын
1. Buyers still liked it 2. It was cheaper 3. Dealer ordered by mistake All three were possible. There's a 74 Trans Am out there with a column shift that was a dealer mistake. He liked the no console look but that was with 4-speed and he didn't think and had no idea that if he skipped the $55 optional console that the car would come in with a column shifter and was horrified when it did. 😀
