62-64 letter series WERE the first muscle cars, as people think of them .. The Dodge and Plymouth versions (Fury, Belvedere, Savoy) had the same or slightly longer, by 1-5", wheel base and legnth as the GTO, with 413 or 426, cross ram, induction, that ruled the strip, in its time... The GTO was simply DeLorean's marketing genius and nothing more.

Hi Nick & George, Finally the 413 on the Dyno!! This is the one I've been waiting to see, ever since it arrived. I was pretty impressed with the numbers it made with just a 4bbl, over the factory numbers in HP, and just 10 ftl lbs down on the torque. Now I'm really looking forward to next Monday's video with the long/short ram induction. Another great video George, you nailed it again. Drove a '65 Fury convertible with the long rams from a used car lot back in 1960's... loudest howl I ever heard from 4 barrel carb.s! Not sure what the engine was, assumed a 383 or 361... it seemed strong in first 3 gears, but kinda weak in 4th gear... which is why I assumed not a 413 or 426...

60 years ago this induction system was an experiment and as evidenced by the fact it was short lived tells me the engineers weren't happy. If it produced more power surely it would have been improved and perhaps used on some hemi engines too. In comparison we have 60 more years of development in aftermarket with the aluminum intake and carb yet are struggling to outperform the original. What I'd like to see is a pair of EFI throttle bodies on that intake. My gut feeling is with the right amount of air/fuel and airflow you could get more power with original looking system. I was also thinking of ways to adjust valves without needing to remove intake. I'm assuming customer didn't want to adjust valves after building this engine but perhaps the solid lifters is what is needed to make this cam sing? More precise valve timing at high RPM could help IMO. Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on Mopar BB Wedge engines. Kudos to Nick for bringing us a view of this rare beast that most of us will never see in person let alone learn so much about. Thanks Nick

The old man who taught me to turn wrenches built the first 426 wedge motor by boring out a 413 to 426 CID back in the 60's. Hand forge forged pistons, bob esky( personal friend) ground a special cam for it. Curly did all the head work, ran a 3 dice carb setup. We ran it in south Florida super modified stock cars. A late model, an off set super modified ( the first in the nation) now called Gold cup in the southwest racing circuit.

The 383 already existed with a 4.25" piston before the 426 so I don't know why he needed a special piston, would have been easier to make a special longer rod.

I'm amazed how you have been able to successfully install tons of flat tappets and have them survive, machinists and engine builders everywhere have been loosing cams and lifters like crazy recently even when everything is done right. Most of the off the shelf lifters are not machined correctly and will stop rotating and wipe out very quickly, usually during the break in or before the first 500 miles.

He said the car salesman would put a 10 or 20 dollar bill on the dash and ask the customer to grab the money, if they could, when he punched the throttle. According to the old timer, not many could. Not sure if that is true, but makes for a good story.

The reason it sold so poorly was the high price due to the high content. Also, the regular 300 was selling like hotcakes and included a pace car convertible. For the 64 300K, the 2 4 barrel and leather seats were options and the price was way down. So sales picked up.

I bought a 1994 Benz coupe that had been sitting 6 years not running, for only $1500, with a 6 liter V12, and believe it or not, it has a cross ram on it, with dual throttle bodies, dual distributors, dual coils, dual MAF, dual MAP, dual air cleaners, dual ram air. got it running it's a blast to drive. what's amazing about them is the midrange torque, the long runners tune the torque band lower, not higher, with the resonance in the long tubes.

@@auteurfiddler8706 I am no price expert for sure. However, pricing on those long rams looked pricey, but consistent with many there for sale. I was looking for and found some of the 340 performance exhaust manifolds like Nick showed us that required the sheet metal spark plug shields. I do believe I saw a few of those big block performance manifolds that sweep up and over...I did not really look for the Max Wedge ones like we see here, but this would be one of 3 places to maybe find them (Mopar Nationals, and Chryslers at Carlisle since all 3 places are Mopar). A 1970 Super Bee yellow complete car with Texas suntan/sunburn (faded paint and haze rust, but not rot like salt rust) I believe sold for $23,000 first day. Next year I will spend way more time there...I only had 2 hours there because I was on call for a new grandchild that came that evening. I had this tripped planned for many months and the baby picked Mopar swap to arrive...probably saved me lots of money leaving after only 2 hours.

I'm so stoked you guys decided to bore it out to a full 426ci, just the perfect number to get as much out of that engine as possible without using a stroker kit with the cast iron manifolds and soon the long ram dual quads, this 300J is going to be packing the ultimate 426 Street Wedge with every trick in the book with all cast iron heads and manifolds. I wanna see 400hp and 500tq from those dual quads. I think they have it in them and all of this at low relatively rpms, the opposite of the Hemi. This setup is the best chance that big car has to get moving off the line as quick as possible through that specially tuned TF727, hopefully it has relatively tall gears to generate MPH with all that TQ. Probably should be 3.23 at the shortest, a 2.94 or 2.76 would probably be the best way to use 500tq in a 4000lb car.

Great Monday evening, Nick and crew!!!!! Man, this 413 is looking pretty good: I bet when that long ram induction goes on, the torque will ABOUND!!!! That car’s gonna be a blast to cruise in, thanks to the Mopar guru working his magic on it. Great vid, George, as always and keep up the excellence!!!! Great week to you all!!!

That is one very nice engine! Lots of torque, lots of power, very smooth, a fat extremely usable power band. The sound it makes with those factory cast iron manifolds is pure music. Appropriate for a luxury muscle car. Now, I can’t wait to see what those wild dual cross Ram intake manifolds do for the torque and power curve. Want to see if they really make more power where it counts!

You did a great job with this iconic engine Nick, it sounds. Exactly like it should, I can remember my freind Pat with his Mopar collection he had 2 or 3 300C cars with 413s and they were amazing cars and very very quick ! The max wedge was Chryslers homerun both the 413 and 426, nice street manners but also a great race engine and the fore father of the 440. I also like the 57 fury with the crossram poly 318 that made around 300 hp, fantastic engine and great design

Awesome Nick, Loved this. My last car before my Hemi Challenger, was a 1965 Chrysler L, had the race block, R2468030 with the 4bll. I put a dual quad on, with 2 Carter AFB's and a hotter cam, lifters and internals. It was an amazing car, but I never dyno tested it. My mechanic friends said it would be better without the dual quads on it. Oh well, miss the car but love your videos.

When you're in soft ground with your pink 1961 Chrysler with the 413, changing the starter motor was a bear....Statesboro, Georgia 1973. It was a great but rusty car and the engine was a torque monster.

Testing 440 Shortram motor I tried an M-1 single plane with a 750 Edelbrock it made 455hp&508ftlbs. I then tried a Weiand TunnelRam with 2 750 Edelbrocks, it made 469hp&542ftlbs. I then installed the ShortRams with the same carbs it made 429hp&543ftlbs. The ShortRams Buried the other two manifolds in the torque dept!

When I was much younger my best friend had a 64 Dodge 330 model with a 413. 3 on the tree and a LSD rear. All he did to make it into a street terror was to put in a Hurst shifter and a 4.56 rear gear. Oh, and lift bars and rear air shocks to set a launch bias. Was actually just into the low 13s when #8 was too lean and holed the piston. He sold it as is...(was ?) Then he bought a 69 396 El Camino... whole new stories there... LOL

It’ll be fun to see how she does with the long ram intakes. I love these old “forgotten” Chrysler motors. Would be thrilled to see you get an old ‘62 383 RB with the factory dual AFB’s. I had one in the 80’s, and I shoulda kept it. What a head-turner!

Long ram or inline AFB's? What car was it in? Was it stock in that car or you put it in? I have an iron inline dual quad manifold for the B (not RB) block from about 1962 or 1960.

Back in HighSchool early 80's , our older custodian drove this old green or brown mopar , plenty of stuff inside and never washed much , just in his drive under the trees. He was great to talk to , and would let a couple of us hangout in his room for an after dinner smoke , and we knew where he kept a few cold beers stashed . We were ribbing him about that ugly car and if it ever got past 30mph as he would just put around , and it sounded pretty quiet. One day he said that reminds me I need to check oil. We walked up the ramp from the boiler room , and darn near fell back down when he opened the hood! There sat a Monster Crossram ! The conversation changed , and he told us All About It , And What She Would Do! The next day after school we went and he brought a couple photo albums of Him and his Family History , All with Monster Muscle and Fun at a couple Strips they used to run some of them at. We had a blast , and continued until he retired my Jr. Year. He moved back closer to his family , but taught us a good lesson. Never judge a book by its cover. What you dont see might just fool ya. Thanks for the memories Mr. Arlo , glad I met you!

They worked hard and played hard , like the handful of us looking at car mags during library and fixin our rides best we could. I actualy was driving a 59 Apache Stepside at the time Dad and I played with. He was a mechanic still at that time and since young was always learning. Appreciate your Channel , Thank You.
