as long as you learn the dutch properly, like knowing when the stonewall and when the classical setup i agree with the idea, because from my experience, i was a d4 player almost from the beginning and learned some duch theory after i surpassed about like 1600 rapid or something like this and london which is probably most played opening by beginners isn't anything particular against dutch.

This video might make me try the Dutch Defense again. I used to actually main the Dutch up until recently where I switched to the Semi-Slav against the Queen’s gambit and c5 against the London. This video has made me see the Dutch in a way that I can understand more of the basic ideas (but not a lot imo). Although the London will still be a pain in the ass to deal with and was the main reason why I ended up quitting the Dutch. But the classical is better (and was what I mained before switching to the Leningrad where I ended up quitting the Dutch Defense). I can see why people talk about the Leningrad more than the Classical. Otherwise, decent video!

Yea thats the weakness behind the Dutch defense. However this is directed to lower elo audience and on lower elo it is supposedly unlikely for the rook move.

@@Sothus2 That is indeed a blunder. After rook takes, push the D pawn (d5) to attack the rook, forcing it to leave the bishop (after a potential pawn trade). Then you take the bishop and win a piece.

The dutch defence is just one of these openings where you bring your bishop to g7 early and leave it in this fianchetto position for a while. From my personal point of view, this is always a good move in low elo games because there is a decent chance that white will forget about the bishop and blunder their rook on a1 at some point :P

1. e4 d6 2. d4 f5 this is one of my favorites, because it's the exact position that you would reach if white played the Staunton gambit (and you played the Balogh defense in response). Chances are, your opponent doesn't know how to play the Staunton gambit and slips up, letting you dominate the center for the entire rest of the game.

@@knight2342 Can you please say that again, but with punctuation?
@Brass3192 ай бұрын
Oh, and it's also worth noting that the position is still a draw with perfect play. This doesn't throw the game or anything, it's just fun with little downside to playing it as long as you know what you're meant to be doing
@knight23422 ай бұрын
@@Brass319 It’s not meant to be an attack on your playstyle; play whatever you want to. I can only tell you from my own experience that it won’t help you improve as a chess player. Secondly, you don’t know the term ‘positionally lost.’ Your white squares are extremely weak, and yes, of course, an engine is capable of holding the position, even if it’s +1.
@Brass3192 ай бұрын
@@knight2342 If I'm playing against someone much better than me and trying to hold my own, of course I'm not gonna screw around. Otherwise, who cares? I'm not _relying_ on surprise factor; I can still win without too much difficulty even if they know what to play in response. That was my point with it being sound: it's not the end of the world either way. Also, just for future reference, be more polite if you don't want to make it seem like an attack on someone's playstyle. Saying it's not "real" chess makes you seem like you shouldn't be taken seriously at best and is upsetting at worst. Another thing that helps it not seem like you're being disrespectful is avoiding giving unsolicited advice; nowhere in my original comment do I imply I'm new to the game or that I needed help becoming a better player, and if I did, I'm in the right place to learn _without_ you telling me what to do. Oh, and lastly? Even bad openings can be fun, and possibly even make you a better chess player. Inventing an opening I call the "hokey pokey" (nf3, ng1, nf3, nd4, you put your right knight in, take your right knight out, put your right knight in, and shake it all about, hence the name) and having to win games from that position by simply playing better was helpful for me becoming a better chess player.
