This is a limited edition GameBoy Light which was sold in the Tezuka Osamu World Shop. According to Console Variations, between 1000 and 5000 of these were made. I bought this for an absolute steal, its in very bad condition, lets refurb it!

I love this Game Boy. It showed all of the signs of being an important part of some kids childhood and only showed reasonable signs of age, not abuse. Love seeing these artifacts.

@@dogg-pawstoo many kids. I was 5 years old when my parent’s entrusted me with the Game Boy color. I had the atomic purple one with the rechargeable battery pack from I believe it was Pelican that made it. I would play Pokémon Crystal all the time on it and I’d be riding in the back of my parent’s car at night when we’d go out places and I’d hold the game boy up to the window to be able to see the screen. Hoping to catch a glimpse of street light. I took care of that thing better than any toys I owned back then. I knew that if I didn’t, my mom would take it away because she wouldn’t trust me to not break it. I don’t understand how some people can be so careless with their stuff even as little kids.

I actually love that this game boy visibly looks like it's been restored and repaired, with the mismatched, homemade battery cover and the different polarizing filter. I love restored consoles, to me it looks like it's been loved, loved enough to the point that it's been used so much that it's been damaged, and then valued enough that it's been restored to a usable and pleasant state. In my eyes, it adds way more value than scarcity ever could. Keep up the good work, Elliot!

Same. I bought a GameBoy Pocket recently because of this channel. I have emulator devices to play gameboy games already but it's a whole different thing playing them on an actual GameBoy, so I got an Everdrive too, the expensive one, because it has save states and stuff on it. Gonna get a DMG GameBoy with a bivert backlight soon too, because that's cheaper than buying a Japanese GameBoy Light and does the same thing, it keeps the original screen but just adds a light, it's not a modern lcd screen

the blue character is Doremon! He's a robot cat that lost his ears! Honestly i kinda love obviously loved and worn stuff like this, whatever person owned it clearly loved it a lot until they grew up. The collector in me is of course thrilled to see it restored but also another part of me is sad seeing all the stickers and stuff go...the memories they held and whatnot. Maybe I'm just a bit to much of a sentimentalist.

Same, I've restored gb's with stickers in the past and i always take a very flat spudget and try to delicately remove them, and place them in my stickerbook. I like having the stickers as a memory of the restoration of the console.

People RAHEEEEELY need to stop using WD 40 on plastics, especially as a part of a restoration process. It is corrosive and makes plastics and rubbers brittle. It also makes it overly shiny and greasy. If you need a salvant on your restoration project, generally isopropyl alcohol will dissolve most adhesives and stickers. If you are looking to condition/brighten/shine up the plastic casings, then use something like Armor All which is designed for that purpose. Also, are you wearing a respirator for isopropyl alcohol?

The other Astro Boy limited edition Game Boy Light is translucent red, with Astro flying in the middle with other characters from the series, as well as Kimba the while lion (if you know what that is). 8:50 - Hoo boy, adhesive nightmare mode right there. Good idea with the respirator, I had to scrape off a full layer of adhesive on the back of a DMG screen with the ribbon cables still attached and I swear the fumes made me all woozy O_o

Try auto tech adhesive remover for removing adhesive residue. Pair it with high quality plastic razor blades and you’ll save SO much time on screen repairs.

Great work on the refurb! I have to disagree with a lot of the comments though, I feel removing the stickers was the right thing to do. The unit is expensive because of the astroboy decal, not the 100 Vodaphone stickers. If you're sentimental over it's original condition at least it will live on in that form in this video.

Just for future reference, there's this product called Goo Gone. It comes in a spray bottle and it's the best stuff I've ever used for removing stickers/adhesives. When I used to buy DVDs from the local video store they always had these stickers on the inner circle of the disc. When you got the sticker off, the adhesive residue was super sticky almost nothing worked to get it off. Goo Gone literally took it off like nothing, plus it smells like oranges so it's great lol.

For Retrobright, i can tell you that its easiest to buy Cream Oxide, spread a bit with a brush over the shell, put it into a freezer bag and put it in bright Sunlight for a day or two. Sorry if some things dont make sense, im not that good at english.

Honestly, I love seeing these old beat-up devices even before the restoration. Seeing them covered in stickers and things like that is so neat to me because this was that persons Gameboy. They didn't care about having a bunch of stickers on it because it's theirs. They didn't plan on selling it or giving it away at the time. Well at least for the shell of it, seeing screen damage and other problems with it does make me a little sad lmao.
